A reminder that the January Photo competition is on, we're halfway through the month and still plenty of time for more entries.

@Willeke thank you for your answer! Although I'm not sure whether your answer implies that the Gare Paris Nord area is safe at that time of day or not, it turns out that this won't be my concern, as my train to Paris was cancelled, and it seems I'll be arriving in the morning instead.

@gerrit, nice luggage but I am not yet ready to fork out that kind of money. My new case cost about 10% of it.

@Willeke I've had wheels literally coming off suitcases while running to catch transportation one time too many...

I am still using a very nice backpack-roller case which must have been pretty expensive new in the shop, I bought it on a koninginendag market, for almost nothing.

The main problem is that the main zipper failed a few times, I hope to be able to repair that without spending too much.

But for now it is a small hard case, (cabin size but to be checked in.)

I have a big backpack as well (Haglöfs Lex 110 litre) and a cover to protect it during transport (Frilufts Cargo Bag Plus). Both were major expenses but my reasoning is that I travel a lot, and if you compare it to the cost of 2 people having a 5 day vacation staying in hotels it's not too bad.

(that backpack was cheaper when I bought it, compared to prices I find online now)

And we have no car and no kids so we have a little more spending room than others :)
