12:16 AM
@pnuts Did you find one that will work?

Sorry, did not bother to as seems unlikely :) but I will try.

12:35 AM
@pnuts whats up.. it is been a while I did not see u

Domestic matters. I've hardly had access to the internet for two months.

@pnuts hope everything is ok :)

Cheers - getting sorted (I think!) Gosh with 10* my rep I had not realised you have been a member for only half as long as I have been! Well done!

@pnuts me?
no dude, I am way senior than you here, but because I have deleted my account then created a new one so it shows the new date.. I am here since Jan 19, 2012

"Me", you, MeNoTalk, IKeelYou any of the other voices you hear!
Ah! That explains a bit - but well done anyway!

12:43 AM
maybe u remember now

Fraid not - remember I'm a noob.

ok
@pnuts I guess I will stick to my last nick name (Ne An Derthal).. I just love it..

I think I might prefer Nean De Rthal (as a name).

Rthal is hard to pronounce..
I wanted to make it "Neanderthal"
but it is not fun..

The 'R' being silent :)

12:51 AM
oooh that makes sense..
same as the p in your name :D?

1:09 AM
Yup! (name consciously chosen for that very reason).

1:53 AM
@GayotFow I have tried but since not actually a Paddington Bear nothing seems to work. The best I can manage (but still VERY feeble) is travel.stackexchange.com/questions/46210/…: You may be in luck, it seems Peru may be able to supply a suitcase complete with a secret compartment, enabling it to hold more items than it would at first appear.

2:04 AM
@GayotFow Bank of England museum?

@JoErNanO Yes, arguably the best little museum in London; certainly the most posh. Plus a personally guided tour

4 hours later…
6:02 AM
nihao! back in the land of the not too pricy but needing of VPN
@GayotFow I'M THINKING OF HEADING TO A BOUYEI ETHNIC AREA AND A BAI ETHNIC ARRA
... learning to hate swipeys...

6:29 AM
@hippietrail I will turn on the VPN again..

3 hours later…
9:25 AM
@NeAnDerthal thank you, kind sir

9:42 AM
@hippietrail I am leaving tomorrow on a long trip (~20 days)...
and PC will be off, I can't leave things on for long time.. I usually turn off everything if I am leaving for longer periods..
so, If I settled somewhere I will make a vpn there and send you the information..
expect it to be off for at least 3 days..
starting from after tomorrow or tomorrow night.. depending on the flight I will take..

10:01 AM
no worries mate. have a good trip

5 hours later…
2:35 PM
@JoErNanO Is that a deal?

3:20 PM
@GayotFow How about the inside of the vault at tower of London?

3:43 PM
@JoErNanO No, I don't do anything inside or around the Tower. You need to be satisfied with what's on the plate :) I might do a Napoleon Route later this year, but it's iffy at the moment.

Counter offer: a tour of the Scottish whisky island.

4:27 PM
There are 7 with distilleries: Islay, Arran, Mull, Jura, Skye, Lewis and Orkney.

1 hour later…
5:29 PM
@JoErNanO It looks like @pnuts has that one in hand. And what's the problem with the Bank of England? Do you know why the image of Britannia on the 10 pound note has three bumblebees? eh? EH???
Did you ever actually lift a solid bar of gold? :)

I liked that museum well enough for a short visit, but I would not call it the best place for anything (But money) and best for UK people as there is a high percentage of 'do you remember that.'
I have tried to lift that bar but that was one of the few highlights

But I don't recall giving you an escorted tour...

true, I had it without a tour, just what the museum supplied.

Hearing an endless font of trivia and drivel can make a different experience

It can make it worse, that is true

5:42 PM
Not if you're deaf

Which I am not, and I think you would find a way to impart the information even if you had a deaf person to guide.
I think my best small museum visit was to the museum of childhood, but that was a while ago and I fear they might have modernized since.

6:29 PM
@GayotFow @JoErNanO compromise? How about the V&A, very interesting areas in that museum, (or the British museum, but I like think better of the V&A).

7:20 PM
@Willeke Too much stamina for me, but thanks for the compromise anyway :)

With a free entry museum you can limit yourself to one area only.

8:08 PM
@Willeke Does your knotlege extend to how to thread shoelaces so they don't break so readily?

Do you want them to break or do you want to avoid them to break?
do NOT....

Avoid (a typo).

Check your shoes, some have nasty sharp edges on the eyelets or hooks.

a silent 'k' ?

Funnily, laces sold with shoes seem to be much sturdier than laces you buy separately, so if possible stick to the original.

8:10 PM
It is from yanking them to tighten up towards the front of the foot, so strain is always at the lost hole before free of the shoe.

In that case you might try to change the way you tighten. If you pull up loop by loop, you put much less stress on the lace.

May be finding the opposite myself (too soon to be sure) - mind you the shoes (well, boots) were cheap and the laces a good name.

And a different way of weaving them in might help, let me find you a link to a helpful site.

It was a different weave I thought you might be able to assist me with.

8:14 PM
I know I should be more subtle but am impatient (specially when in and out of a house all day where outdoor shoes are not worn inside). Many thanks for the link - I'll check it out.

I use the crisscross one, it comes in two versions, one tightens easily, the other is easier to get loose.

Good grief - 43 versions! I like the sound of "Over Under Lacing - This method reduces friction, making the lacing easier to tighten and loosen plus reducing wear and tear." Less friction looks just the job. Many thanks!

And that is without the specials, like the two colour ones.
Do you also have trouble with knots coming undone?

Only when the half the lace has come away and I try and 'make do' with the rest! But at one time I was supposed to be teaching fellow sea cadets how to tie knots :)

I use the surgeons version of the shoelace knot with mountain boots, simply tucking one loop one extra time and it stays knotted all day, (while the basic knot comes out in an hour) but I do prefer round fat laces.
I have seen fellow scout leaders teaching knots :(
Teaching as such does not convince me.

8:27 PM
If you imply I had no idea what I was doing you are spot on (nobody had taught me and the sessions were chaotic anyway!)
Fortunately I don't need durability of the fastening - in and out of the shoes too often.

The most important you should teach (anything I think) is that is can be fun and that your students should (try to) learn more.

We were teenagers 'roped' in to the cadet force NOTHING was fun.

I am not happy with the way the 'close vote' here is mentioned. I did vote to close it but not as duplicate: travel.stackexchange.com/questions/50619/…
Pity, many sea cadets (and marine cadets) I have met seemed to like the cadets. I am not sure I would have liked it ever, most surely not at cadet age.

Except I liked whipping (ropes not SM)..
I am not best please with the CV messages - at times I will add a comment that the reason stated was not the one chosen by ME.

I have done a session of that yesterday, friends needed new lines on their boat, was fun to do real rope rather than the fancy (thin) stuff I usually handle.
It already has a comment by my for what I think is the reason to close, so I think I leave it at this. But that does explain it does happen more often.

8:36 PM
If your cadets were volunteers that may have made all the difference - and we did have some good time too even if determined not to show any appreciation for them.

I could also have said that my crystal ball has cracked and would not give needed details.
Or any of the other 'I can not predict future' remarks.
Got to go, good night

8:54 PM
Good night. Thanks again.

9:15 PM
@pnuts Orkney's are too far away. The rest can be done in one go.
@GayotFow Can I lift the bar of gold all the way to my car? :D

The only 1 of 7 I've been to!

I'll go there too eventually. Scapa is one of my favorite whiskies.
