@JoErNanO No, I don't do anything inside or around the Tower. You need to be satisfied with what's on the plate :) I might do a Napoleon Route later this year, but it's iffy at the moment.

I liked that museum well enough for a short visit, but I would not call it the best place for anything (But money) and best for UK people as there is a high percentage of 'do you remember that.'

I have tried to lift that bar but that was one of the few highlights

I think my best small museum visit was to the museum of childhood, but that was a while ago and I fear they might have modernized since.

Check your shoes, some have nasty sharp edges on the eyelets or hooks.

Funnily, laces sold with shoes seem to be much sturdier than laces you buy separately, so if possible stick to the original.

It is from yanking them to tighten up towards the front of the foot, so strain is always at the lost hole before free of the shoe.

In that case you might try to change the way you tighten. If you pull up loop by loop, you put much less stress on the lace.

May be finding the opposite myself (too soon to be sure) - mind you the shoes (well, boots) were cheap and the laces a good name.

And a different way of weaving them in might help, let me find you a link to a helpful site.

I know I should be more subtle but am impatient (specially when in and out of a house all day where outdoor shoes are not worn inside). Many thanks for the link - I'll check it out.

I use the crisscross one, it comes in two versions, one tightens easily, the other is easier to get loose.

Good grief - 43 versions! I like the sound of "Over Under Lacing - This method reduces friction, making the lacing easier to tighten and loosen plus reducing wear and tear." Less friction looks just the job. Many thanks!

Only when the half the lace has come away and I try and 'make do' with the rest! But at one time I was supposed to be teaching fellow sea cadets how to tie knots :)

I use the surgeons version of the shoelace knot with mountain boots, simply tucking one loop one extra time and it stays knotted all day, (while the basic knot comes out in an hour) but I do prefer round fat laces.

I have seen fellow scout leaders teaching knots :(

Teaching as such does not convince me.

If you imply I had no idea what I was doing you are spot on (nobody had taught me and the sessions were chaotic anyway!)

Fortunately I don't need durability of the fastening - in and out of the shoes too often.

The most important you should teach (anything I think) is that is can be fun and that your students should (try to) learn more.

We were teenagers 'roped' in to the cadet force NOTHING was fun.

Pity, many sea cadets (and marine cadets) I have met seemed to like the cadets. I am not sure I would have liked it ever, most surely not at cadet age.

Except I liked whipping (ropes not SM)..

I am not best please with the CV messages - at times I will add a comment that the reason stated was not the one chosen by ME.

I have done a session of that yesterday, friends needed new lines on their boat, was fun to do real rope rather than the fancy (thin) stuff I usually handle.

It already has a comment by my for what I think is the reason to close, so I think I leave it at this. But that does explain it does happen more often.

If your cadets were volunteers that may have made all the difference - and we did have some good time too even if determined not to show any appreciation for them.

Or any of the other 'I can not predict future' remarks.
