Q: August 2019 photo competition: 'Seen through a train window.'

WillekeTheme for August 2019 is 'Seen through a train window' by mdewey. As trains are not everywhere and at least some users are unable to use them, I want to widen the theme. The photo has to be taken from a vehicle through the window, showing the frame and/or the glass. (Or in case of a windowless v...

Q: Congratulations to our 29 oldest beta sites - They're now no longer beta!

CatijaIf you're a user on a long-toiling beta site that's been waiting 7-8 years to get out of beta, this may be the post you've been waiting for. The 29 Beta sites that are 7+ years old no longer have the "Beta" label! I'm on record as saying that we need to ditch the "beta" label for our older site...

sadly, Expats missed out this time

@MarkMayo I looked at your entry for the Answerathon, but your answer was not the first one in this question
so I think it doesn't meet the criteria

My feeling as well.

I took a bunch of photos for the contest on July 25 and quickly sent those out for development, but none of them really came out that well. Unfortunately, I'll have to sit out of this month's photo contest...

@gparyani, would you not have older photos that will do? Most of us go through a few years of photos (or memory of photos) to get the ones we post.

I actually did find an older one, but it's not of high quality. The windows were fogged up and it wasn't really possible for the camera to see what was outside.

When I was looking through my photos I did find two or three series taken out of an open top bus and I know I have a few more of those. They would fit as long as you have some of the bus in the frame.

It is in the frame. You just cannot see outside very well because the window itself is fogged.

Did you see the photo with the child and the photo with the dog? In neither you can see outside and still they got posted.

Here's the photo. Everything outside looks brighter than it is because the window is fogged.

Certainly better than the two I just mentioned.
And talking about windows not showing what they should, one of mine has a huge reflection in it.

A: August 2019 photo competition: 'Seen through a train window.'

gparyaniTaken on a wildlife tour bus at Denali National Park, Alaska, on June 17, 2018. We spotted some bears outside near the road the bus was driving on, and we had to slow down to avoid them chasing after us.

@Willeke I wasn't referring to the reflection; if you look on the right side of the image, the greens there should be more vivid, but they're not really, because of the way the window is making them look.
Also, by the way, how did you like the photo I uploaded for last year's "bridges" competition? Did you by any chance happen to look at the album I uploaded of more photos of that bridge?

That is the nature of this months theme. We want to see the windows, even though that makes the photo less a 'prize winner' in other competitions.
I did not follow any links and I must say that I will have to take a look at which bridge was yours. (Will do both now.)

I took those photos using black-and-white film the day before the photo competition started. It took longer to ship and have developed since there was a large backlog of rolls as it was Independence Day here in the U.S.

It make me think of a childs toy bridge, Mecano or something like that.
I most like the shots where you are walking besides the superstructure of the bridge.
It falls away next to the new bridge, but it still has its charm.
What I intent with this competition is a place where we can share those photos we usually only show our partners or best friends, or online hoping people will see them. With a theme each month to share in the same field.
We do not have a 'best photo ever' competition, for that there is an other SE site.
