Q: Bounty Bonanza Interest Gauging and Commitment Levels

Gayot FowJune 2016 will mark the 5th anniversary of the TSE site, to mark the occasion we can run a "Bounty Bonanza". This is a month long event where bounties are offered at an unprecedented level! Regular users will swarm over the site looking to run the maximum number of permitted bounties for the enti...

Gents, @MarkMayo, @JoErNanO, @chx @CMaster, are we starting to turn the corner on this where it looks like a go? I noticed someone going into the 3/100 bounty range.

chx
I thought we had a previous thread already and we said go?

Q: The Great 5 Year Anniversary Bounty Bonanza

JoErNanOThe Proposals Our 5 year anniversary falls on the 28th of June this year, if we consider our birth date to be the date our public beta went live. Time to celebrate this Travel.SE style - with a competition! Below are two possible proposals: For the whole month of June we could run a bounty gi...

@chx We said 'go' in principle, @MarkMayo advised to write a firm commitment type of META

chx
Asking questions , problem is, any question I want to ask will be closed in seconds :)

3:30 AM
@chx I closed voted as WANTA,
I'm stunned to see a 10k user answer it.
I understand the noob wanting to jump in, but cripes a full 10k user?
I can't find the protect button
@chx why? did you make some enemies?

chx
haha no it's just off topic
like, where do you find interesting travel related crowdfunding projects
that's "too broad"

My brother is into that but he's very regional
I have to think up some questions for the bonanza.

chx
3:57 AM
"Is there a lightweight, easy to operate travel can opener? I am aware of johnlewis.com/joseph-joseph-can-do-can-opener/p1355716 and blog.consumerpla.net/2010/06/… and looking for more ideas." is this an acceptable question or too broad?
that would greatly interest me...
and impossible to google since it spits out all these horrible military can openers

@chx That might work!
@HeidelBerGensis I was thinking about a new handle for your evolutionary advance

chx
I already have a trusty spork I carry around, I have amazon.com/Yazawa-Travel-multi-cooker-TVR21BK/dp/B006NT20YG this, a can opener would nicely finalize the set.
I have the original Japanese version from quite a few years ago
onlineshop.com.sg/… "This product was added to our catalog on Tuesday 30 November, 1999." as I said, quite a few years.

Can't you just go in and get one?

chx
get what...?

4:19 AM
a can opener

chx
I do not know what to buy.
that's the question itself.

If I were in that situation I would ask the lady what aisle they were on. Is it a language issue?

@GayotFow and what did you come up with?

@HeidelBerGensis I'm not finished yet. I only have the first name "Ian" because it's the last diphthong in 'Homosapien'.

I am thinking to use a name that spooks white people..
casper, osama.. something like that :D
Homo Ben Sapien?

4:34 AM
@HeidelBerGensis Dude, no

@GayotFow you are the English expert
tell me a word, when taking away 8 letters of it, it still gives the same meaning, and when adding 4 letters to it, it will still give the same meaning..

you got me by the short and curlies

?
@chx are you a french speaker from canada?

chx
No, I only speak English and Hungarian (at least among human languages. I speak a lot of computer languages :P )

@chx lol
printf("hi");

chx
4:53 AM
Pretty much yes

Q: Why did French survive in Canda while being far from France, while other languages didn't (Arabic in Malta, Dutch in South Africa)

Heidel Ber GensisI always wondered, what makes some languages survive for a long time in a form that is similar to the one from its origin, while others didn't. For example, French in Canada, while being there for many years (almost same time as the Dutch in South Africa) and away from France and with absence o...

I always wondered about that..

chx
if you want to hear that sort of talk, had to the sprint rooms of [DrupalCon New Orleans]( events.drupal.org/neworleans2016) which is happenning right now

@chx a drupal event?

chx
rather, THE drupal event.
there must be more than 4000 ppl
I haven't been in a few years but even at the mentored codesprint in 2013 Portland there were 600 people which was awe inspiring.
the conference itself is usually 4-4500 people

I have never used drupal, I do not even know what is it about..
I am more like a .NET guy, it is a hobby, my job is so far from being about technology

chx
4:56 AM
it is supposedly an application to build websites with
but more importantly, it's an amazing vibrant international community

I will take a look into it..
it is built with php?
@chx after using MVC, it will be hard to work on php, as i remember php does not use an MVC model.. or is there something new?
last time i used php was years ago..

chx
Certainly things have changed
If you look for architectural purity then Drupal might not be the best choice ;)
here's the answer to why French survived
it's not because the French language is special

@chx i am all into design patterns and architectural patterns now.. since it is a hobby, i got all the time in the word to make mistakes and learn
@chx of course no language is special, factors around it are..

chx
Drupal has many design patterns
Especially Drupal 8
it has all the patterns whether necessary to include all or not :P
make no mistake, Drupal 8 is awesome but it's a tad bit overengineered and sometimes hard to understand

@chx i just read a little, it is quite famous..

chx
5:07 AM
yeah, depending on who you ask / how you count at least 2% of all the web is Drupal powered

thats a lot!

chx
Yes, it's code I wrote :D
I mean I didn't write all of Drupal but I wrote a hell lot of it.

@chx that's something to be proud of mate!

chx
I am! (or was.)
and more importantly, it brings well paying jobs so I can live in my dream apartment and finance a really small almost-school in Hungary while at it.

nice
so u stopped working on dripal?
drupal*

chx
5:10 AM
I no longer contribute to Drupal, that's true
if work needs something I will send it upstream but that's all
Whether it's permament or temporary, we will see

nice
u r like bill gates of drupal then
except a few billion dollars difference..

chx
Thing is, I do not want to get into handling people
I am good at nudging code where I want it to go
I can even get specifications out of people who do not even have a clear picture of it themselves
but that's it basically
I am not managing teams

@chx my job is all about dealing with people.. cabin crew.. luckily i am at the office now.. little flights, less contact with people..

chx
Different people, different jobs

chx
5:14 AM
I am very good at handling code and very bad at handling people so it makes much sense to hide behind the keyboard

I am bad at both.. lol

5:52 AM
@chx I always enjoyed your stuff here

chx
6:05 AM
thanks

@GayotFow We are definitely running the event. We'll ask the moderators to communicate with the higher ups so that we can get some advertisements on other sites and maybe even some endorsement and swag prizes.
@MarkMayo do you think this can be done?

@JoErNanO There's a good lad!
@JoErNanO If I recall, this was to be marshalled by @JonathanReez, no?

@JoErNanO are you going to hunt Mercury while passing between the sun and earth today?
or you are not into this styff?

2 hours later…
8:08 AM
I can offer a free beer to anyone visiting Sydney who posted a bounty during June? ;)
(assuming I'm still in Sydney by then)

@MarkMayo let me look up how generous kiwis are... wait

hey, that could be literally hundreds of beers if it takes off! :)

@MarkMayo make it more practical, a bounty of 50 = beer, 2 bounties of 500 = a ticket..

a ticket?

yes, to Sydney..

8:14 AM
dream on :)

ok, will keep on looking how [cheap|generous] kiwis are... lol

chx
I usually like to travel from colder places to warmer places
so Sydney in June... perhaps not.

no don't come in June, I won't be here :)
India is calling

chx
Although the way the weather gone nuts perhaps Sydney winter will be warmer than Vancouver summer

Hey, I'll hopefully be in Vancouver in August
I miss Vancouver :/

8:18 AM
@chx for someone who lives in the desert like me, with a temp close to 40c these days, it does not matter, it can't be any worse..

chx
Unless you come the first week of August, I wont be
I'm leaving on Aug 6 , coming back oct 3

I might be there August 2nd
will depend on my US Visa coming through, and flights

chx
Yeah, flights, I had a horrible itin with Aeroplan, three connections to Budapest but then KLM had a sale for 2k usd for biz class returns (!) and I quickly changed to that
that worked with KLM
the winter flight didnt as you all know :)

I missed Willeke last week, who else is coming here?

Q: Meet other Travel.SE members?

Mark MayoI've been fortunate to meet other members on the site in Vancouver, Montreal and NYC, and I know other meetups have happened. I wondered if perhaps a community-wiki type list by continent and city for anyone who would be keen to meet for a coffee would be a useful idea? You may be passing thro...

8:24 AM
I added myself to that meta.travel.stackexchange.com/revisions/1604/54 last year
with that said, good night.

Night!
I'm still gutted I joined this site about a week after leaving St Petersburg, Russia and therefore missed @VMAtm, who also joined that first week

I have only been to 3 locations outside the UK this year, and two of them were crap. So the odds are better if people come here

you Brit-based people should organise another London meetup

Yes, I think it would be dandy
Except not that grouchy fellow

Gayot?
;)

8:33 AM
Not me, that melancholy Dane who is grouchy all the time

8:47 AM
@MarkMayo did you see where a 13k users answered a WANTA question?

@HeidelBerGensis Mercury who? Freddie?

@JoErNanO the planet you pizza man

@HeidelBerGensis Pizza planet?

@JoErNanO yes, a big giant meat ball is going to pass between the oven and our planet..

@HeidelBerGensis Awesome. Can we eat it?
More importantly, can we see it with the naked eye?

9:00 AM
no, naked eyes can not look into the sun directly.. it is like being human 101..
but NASA is showing it live on NASA tv... it is online.
I do not have equipment, even if i did not in this heat..
I just wrote in facebook: it's ok to do drugs so you forget that you are ugly, just do not filter your photos and shock me when I see you for the first time.
many ugly people i know gave me likes.. I love the spirit..

@HeidelBerGensis Because you think you are pretty? :P
Do you have a link?

@JoErNanO no because i know i am ugly..
they said around 11 something UTC..

Awesome thanks.

Speaking of TV, there is a brilliant military parade spectacle on Russian TV, tune in if you can!

@GayotFow sometimes i love you, sometimes i do not,, like now.. first it is russian, seconds, it is on russian tv... how the hell are we going to "tune in" to that?

9:07 AM
Actually you don't need to speak Russian to be awed by the spectacle.

@HeidelBerGensis If you want to see russian girls, you'll find a way. :P

@JoErNanO true, but not russian military stuff... would you?

@GayotFow I am in England till 15th of May, spending time with knot tyers on Saturday 14th near Bristol/Bath. So if you can wrangle an empty leg.......I can introduce you to at least some of the people.
@GayotFow great keyfob, and even better if they do pay you properly :D

@Willeke I do hope to have better luck

So I caught up with @RoflcoptrException in terms of rep.

9:16 AM
There was a problem with reindexing process - Rebuild Catalog product fulltext search index

@GayotFow let me know latest Thursday night, as I will have to arrange with others what to do and where to meet, not just you but also each other.

@JeevaRathinam There was a problem with raindeering process? What were you doing to those poor rain deers?

@JeevaRathinam what are you talking about boss?

In Bath?

9:22 AM
@JeevaRathinam not gonna click on a shortened link, sorry boss..

@HeidelBerGensis It's a screenshot of some table.
See? You fear nothing when you're on Linux.
Windows on the other hand...

@JoErNanO so your "linux" must look like windows...
is that MSKDE? or MSGNOME?

Do you know solutions of this error...

@HeidelBerGensis What? That's the image from the link.
@JeevaRathinam I think you're in the wrong chat room.

ok, sorry

9:28 AM
@JoErNanO I have linux on a VM, i use it for this kind of stuff ;)

@JoErNanO I'm not sure that approach will get us far
I think we need to add our ad to teh community ads meta Q on other SE sites

@GayotFow the friends I visit with live between Bristol and Bath, Ian has something to do in the same general area, again outside the cities.

@CMaster Yes exactly. Before doing so I'd ask the mods on each community though.

That was weird

I think you could attach a polite bit of text/comment to the Meta Answer
To explain - and if people don't like it, they can downvote
and there should be no hard feelings about that
There's probably better odds of sucess if the poster already has high rep on the site in question
It's only 5 rep to participate in meta, so any of us could post it anywhere
I can forsee bad reactions to drive-by advert attempts though

9:38 AM
@CMaster Yes definitely.

I don't really have much rep anywhere else (a little bit on SO, a little bit on WB (do beta sites have community ads?), even less on GO.

I can ask on Academia and Mechanics.

@JoErNanO ask your friend shadow wizard to help in MSE..

@HeidelBerGensis I will.
@HeidelBerGensis I'll let you do SO.

@JoErNanO SO? i have no rep there..
1k only..

9:48 AM
I think I saw @gerrit has high rep on GO
Anyone got good rep on Aviation? I bet they have some experts who could handle some of our weird flight questions
(How come Aviation isn't an auto-migrate target actually?)
2
How has a WANTA question survivied to get 5 different answers
all of which are clearly completely personal opinion
looks like beta sites don't get community ads
which means GO/Expats are out
Is there a way to design an SE query to look for users with rep >1000 for Travel and > 1000 for other sites?

10:07 AM
@CMaster I do, why?

@gerrit We were discussing trying to ge tthe Bounty Bonanza ad featured on other SE sites, and suggesting that approaches might be better received if they were made by established memebrs of that community

I do not agree with closing all questions that ask for personal experience/opinions and do not hurry to close vote. (I might even answer if I think they are borderline acceptable.)

But it looks like as a beta site GO doesn't have community ads
so it doesn't help so much
@Willeke The Q was basically "What's fun to do with a day in Paris"
and the 5 answers are basically "I like this"

I have been on Bicycles for over a year, but can not say I am an established user. I managed less than 700 rep, and do get quite a few DV for expressing a different opinion/experience to most.

Yeah, every so often I look at Bicycles
and never get involved

10:12 AM
@CMaster I see that different. I see it as 'Help I can not find a source that helps me plan a day in Paris with a child and an art lover.'

Although I guess I'll probably end up there one day with some kind of mechanical question

You could re-word it that way and it would likely be closed as duplicate

@CMaster Oh, I see. Indeed, Great Outdoors is in beta. I also have somewhat high rep on Skeptics and Academia, but those aren't as much travel-related as Travel.

@gerrit Dunno, Academics do a lot of travelling

@CMaster True.

10:13 AM
They love mechanical questions. They just do not understand that not all cycling is 'as fast as possible on roads where cars try to kill you.'

Although yes, less "could be asked on both sites" than with GO

Oh, let me add, 'cycling can only be done in summer as in winter your hands freeze off'.

@Willeke Yeah, but while I can (nomrlaly) keep my bike working, I wouldn't dare to answer any mechanical Qs
And I prefer to keep off roads where possible

@CMaster I have been the main mechanic to my bikes for 40 years, I still can not do a lot. Just having bikes that behave well. But I am into recumbents, even have a trike, and ride sturdy Dutch bikes on low traffic roads or bike paths most of the time. And do not believe in helmet. (that last does earn me a few DV whenever I claim that.)

@Willeke Helmets are a strange flash-point for arguments among cyclists
(I wear one, but then I mostly mountain bike, where low-speed, head-first impacts are more likley that other types of cycling)

10:17 AM
I look at how many people I know that ride bikes, (commuting not racing/off road) and how few helmets and how few accidents.
If Australian numbers are to be believed all Dutch hospitals should be filled with people immobilized or worse by cycle accidents.
And they struggle to claim a 2% of commuters cycle rate, while we have one that is so much higher, we do not even bother so count commuters separate.
Going down hill off road, helmets are sensible.

I've been flung over the bars a good few times
it happens

A chat friend (other site) commutes to work in Australia, almost all on shared walking/bike paths, so no high speeds, and the rest of low traffic roads. In hot weather for half the year. He has to wear a helmet (and does so) but to me it makes no sense at all.
@CMaster I feel that the 90/180 working remote/or not visiting Europe Q does not really belong in TSE, but at this time it is not worded such that it should be moved to expats.

It's not really clear at the moment
like, it's possible they're after a "posh backpacking" experience of travelling around, taking it slowly
which would be TSE
or it's possible they really do mean "relocating" which well, expats is definitley better for

With their emphasis on 'we can work our company without actually being there' and 'relocating back to the USA' I would think it is Expats.

10:43 AM
In most of the world, cycling infrastructure is vastly inferior to The Netherlands. Consequently, even in nearby countries like the UK, most cyclists are young male adults.

Goedemiddag @gerrit Yes, I would also not want to ride most of the roads in the UK, even in Belgium and Denmark I am not sure if I would dare to ride.

It's not as bad as it looks
(Evidence suggests that cycling for transport in the UK extends life, not shortens it)
but you will have some alarming experiences, and you do need to be pretty assertive
It's also not that pleasant if you've constantly got motor vehicles next to you - loud and nasty tasting air

I have done Hull to Nothingham and Harwich to Twickenham (though London) on the 'bent trike. But on the sustrance routes which were pretty much out of commuter areas.
And the trike, while low, is certainly very visible.

11:01 AM
Spent last hour trying to complete visa application for the US. Problems so far include:

- website times out after 20 minutes unless you save your application
- if you save, it still times out after 20 minutes
- to retrieve your application, enter (among other things) the first 5 letters of your surname. Sigh.
Then, the data.
- When you have dual nationalities, but live in a country where you don't have citizenship, and your passport wasn't issued in your home country...
- enter dates and destinations of last 5 visits to the US(!).

Poor you, dual national who travels too much.

11:26 AM
@CMaster I agree, but I can understand that people in the UK are more hesitant to send their kids to school cycling than in The Netherlands.
It really depends on where you are, but many English roads are rather narrow without pavements or shoulders, with hedges that block the view, and still cars drive rather fast. In daylight it's OK, but I wouldn't feel safe in the dark.

@HeidelBerGensis 300 more than me. :P
@CMaster I can work on that. But I don't think you can look on other sites.

@MarkMayo I spoke someone who applied to do sysadmin work for something classified as military, and they wanted to interview his neighbours of the past five years. Quite challenging doing that for someone who spent most of those five years living as an exchange student in various countries, with other exchange students... I wonder how that ended.

@gerrit in the dark can actually be better, as long as you have good enough lights

11:42 AM
@CMaster I think there's a limited number of those we can have. Or maybe not.

on those winding roads, they can see you coming from around the corner because of the light beam
@JoErNanO There might be a limit. But right now the only option is Meta TSE. This seems a little foolish

@CMaster For you:

Q: Add Aviation to migration targets for off-topic questions

JoErNanOWould it make sense to add Aviation.SE to the available migration targets for off-topic questions?

heh, I was thinking about making a Q of "What sites should we aim to have as a migration target"
then one-site per answer, upvotes says which we should have

0
Q: Add The Great Outdoors to migration targets for off-topic questions

JoErNanOWould it make sense to add Outdoors.SE to the available migration targets for off-topic questions? This is not a duplicate of the other question, adding useless blabla to fool the system.

@CMaster Ach. I acted too fast then.

Might be better your way

11:47 AM
I deleted mine for now. It might make sense to do one answer per site with upvotes. Like the community ads.

11:58 AM
@MarkMayo Man I love stealing your rep. :)

12:15 PM
@GayotFow I beg your pardon? Marshall what, exactly? Ads on other sites?

@JonathanReez Yes, but there's no guarantee I recall it correctly

12:59 PM
Need 80 more rep to hit rep cap.
Shamelessly begging.
Or someone's bounty wink wink

1:14 PM
Gift question. I know the answer but I want to distribute rep.

Q: Are there any power outlets available in SNCF's Intercités de Nuit?

JoErNanOAre there any power outlets available inside SNCF's Intercités de Nuit? Ideally I'd like to know about both second and first class sleeper compartments, and any other possible locations.

@CMaster I have excellent lights but I am sceptical that in the dark can be better. What makes you say this?

@gerrit - it's the specific case of winding country road
in daylight, vehicles can only see you once they have rounded the corner - frequently they are going too fast to stop at this point
at night, your light beam illuminates ahead of you, and oncoming drivers are more likley to slow down for feat you are another motor vehicle
in all other circumstances, it's not much better

@CMaster I see your point, for oncoming vehicles. I'm more worried about vehicles coming up behind me; a rear light would have to be VERY bright for the red shine to show before they have rounded the corner.

@gerrit Not only that. Rear/Stop lights aren't focused, hence why they rely almost solely on brightness for visibility.
@GayotFow Check this out:

Q: US Citizen Working and Travelling in UK

millerbrI know that a US citizen could potentially remain in the UK for up to 6 months on travel. However, I'm also sure that this wouldn't allow them to work while here. If someone were to be visiting the UK for this long, are there legal ways to earn an income while in the UK for 6 months of travel?

A: How to get from Negros/Cebu to El Nido, Palawan?

SandraYes the journey to El Nido is well worth the trip! For the shuttle van from Puerto Princesa, Daytripper is a good option. Although slightly more expensive than some other shuttle vans or buses (it is approx 850 PHP each way), it is very comfortable and reliable. I think you can book the table onl...

1:42 PM
The biggest problem I find with being on the road at night is people passing much closer
they seem to feel that you exist only as that point of light
I've now got a light with fibre optic straps that go across my back, seems to mean more space is given
I'm also a bit paranoid about people coming out from side roads in the dark too

2:29 PM
@JoErNanO here I am if you still want to discuss.

@JoErNanO +1,

2:52 PM
@phoog Wazzup! :)
I think we could do with a canonical QA on EU spouses to close all those duplicates.
You seem to have a bit of rep on the topic.
@GayotFow Thanks for the edit too.

3:20 PM
@AnkurBanerjee could you please take care of this thing if you have a free minute: chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/591?m=29184222#29184222 and related: meta.travel.stackexchange.com/questions/3616/…

@GayotFow One of your picture here failed: travel.stackexchange.com/questions/66104/…

@JoErNanO which one?

@mts Seems like there is a consensus to swap
I'm happy to do it - or would people rather prefer the alternate suggestion
of doing mountaineering instead?

@GayotFow ^

It's the correct image; probably could use a better metaphor however

3:28 PM
Ah. I thought it went ballistic. :)

It's an opaque strategy
submit only 1 statement
of course we all know that ECO's are morons
so they will forget about the rest
@JoErNanO did you think any more about that mountain?

chx
I only woke up now and regarding helmets my problem is I have seen what remained of the helmet of another student sysadmin after a biking accident (which also gave him a screw in one of his leg bones) and I would rather not have my head look like that.

3:44 PM
@GayotFow Gotta fing a better image for that.
@GayotFow Which mountain? I lost you yesterday. :)
@chx Helmets can save lives. It's no myth.

no probs, help figure out the metaphor and I'll make it
and the mountain in Japan where they go to commit suicide

@GayotFow Which one is that?
@GayotFow How about a statement graph with some parts deliberately hidden, rather than the whole thing?

chx
I haven't been biking for several years now but I am back although what I have can barely called a bicycle, it's reveloelectric.com/collections/flex-electric-bike/products/… This is what happens when Canadians design a bike they leave out half the parts and throw the remaining one wherever they can :D

I don't know the name

Like jan to dec, with feb-march and my-june blacked out.
@chx 1200EUR ?!

3:48 PM
And they leave all kinds of weird tokens hanging from the trees

chx
Aye. It's not too expensive for what it is. The Smart eBike is almost twice that.

@AnkurBanerjee Mountaineering doesn't really work, as that doesn't cover sport/indoor climbing

Need 21 more rep to max out.

@CMaster So climbing becomes main tag?

chx
Or emotion-technologies.de/ebikes/grace/grace-mx-ii this beauty, I almost bought it but the 3500 EUR price made me think again...

4:01 PM
@AnkurBanerjee Just split them for now I think is what the meta Q (and some conversation on here) concluded
I suppose you could argue that the "moutain climbing" tag would be better as "moutaineering"

4:13 PM
And we have more threats to national security showing up today

mts
4:52 PM
@AnkurBanerjee let me clarify, I don't suggest to swap the association of the tags, I want them dis-associated
into climbing as a separate tag from mountain-climbing/mountaineering
as in the suggestion I made as an answer: meta.travel.stackexchange.com/a/3617/32134
is that a little more clear? I admit the Q on meta can be confusing.
Oh, I see only now that @CMaster has already summarized things better than me, completely agree with his: "Just split them for now" and "I suppose you could argue that the "moutain climbing" tag would be better as "moutaineering""

@mts @CMaster yep already done!

Thanks a ton!

Q: Which countries are not recognized by or don't recognize France

LousirtAfter some research, I haven't found a list of countries which don't recognize France as a country and vice-versa (list of countries which are not recognized by France). I think if such list exist it will not be long but I keep asking to be sure.

6:04 PM
I guess but I would perhaps want them to clarify whether it's because someone coming to france or going from france to X
Recognition (or the lack of it) is not always mutual

@HeidelBerGensis I voted to close it as OT, asking for a list

@HeidelBerGensis Would you like to expand the comment and make it an answer? :)
I already know what they mean, just thought it would be interesting question for those who didn't

@AnkurBanerjee i do not have enough info, this is more like doc's thing..

@mts Well, you should perhaps fix my awful spelling in those lines

Do any users actually read the tag wiki?
It seems like a feature zero people ever access
yet people edit in new information every day
(I mean the long tag text, not the short tag description)

@JonathanReez I read tag wikis from time to time.

6:56 PM
@JonathanReez hopefully yes.

7:32 PM
I also voted to close it as OT. I think a practical question like "I'm traveling from France to Place X but France doesn't recognize Place X. What does this mean for me?" is certainly on topic, but as it stands the question calls for a list and is about international relations and not travel

@JonathanReez I look at them, but not every time.

That list is impossible to create
What it asks for is an X subset of the set of countries (say, C) where each member of the set is not recognized by France (or doesn't recognize France but that's unlikely to be true for any country)
the problem here is that C is not well defined
What do you do with en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_North_Sudan for example?

@chx perhaps C could include all countries recognized by at least one other country.

I also remember someone declaring a free state in the middle of Hungary last year or so but can't for my life find the news of this lunacy again

Since I'm currently re-tagging climbing questions, what is best practice: should I correctly re-tag a question that has been closed?
