I feel like this story was in one of those 90's scary kids story anthologies. As I recall the premise was there was a monster in the tree outside of a childs window. It couldn't come in without an invitation so the mean little kid tells it he will invite it in, as long as it only eats his sibling...
I posted the same answer in this recent story ID question that I'd previously posted in this older one. The answer was formally accepted in the older question, but the OP of the newer question only left a comment beneath my answer saying "Thank you so much," and that comment has since disappeared.
Should I have closed the newer question as a dupe of the older one when I first saw that comment, or was I right to wait for a formal acceptance? And should the question be closed now or left open?
