Q: Can we read about the privacy policy changes somewhere besides meta.se?

KyralessaToday there's a banner up top that says We changed our privacy policy. Read more. The link goes to meta.stackexchange.com. For...reasons, I don't read meta.stackexchange.com. I even have it blocked on my PC. Is there another location where we can read about these privacy changes? Can the post...

Q: Story, possibly from sixties, in which humans destroy post-renaissance art when humanoid aliens invade and conquer

Haydon BerrowI was reminded of this story while trying to answer a question on this site. Can anyone tell me the title and author? Set in America and featuring the (alien humanoid) governor of Earth after a conquering invasion. The invasion was only successful because the aliens have a force-shield that will ...

Q: Arcade owner (in mechanized wheelchair?) attacked and eaten by city alligator

FuzzyBootsI have a scene, I think from a longer book, stuck in my head, hoping for some help in getting it out. The protagonists are visiting an arcade on a future Earth, I think within a recognizable city like New York. I don't remember what information they were there for, but near the end of the scene w...

Q: Sci-fi show where a son and his father are sucked into a computer and transported into various historic moments

LulzI saw this show one time, I can't remember where. I honestly think it was on PBS but I could be wrong. The premise of the show is about a son who had a shakey relationship with his dad. His father built some sort of program which sucked him into the computer, and then the son was also brought in,...

Q: Has their been any mention of what file format is used in Starfleet?

EmpressSvetlanaLots of times we see data stored on consoles or PADD devices that contain notes and complex diagrams. Has their been any mention of how these notes are saved? .tex, .odt,.doc? Logs as well, obviously they have some audio format, would it simply be a future version of an .mp3 file? I would assume ...

Q: The name of a novel about a generation ship

Mysteria_SdrassaI am trying to remember the name of a novel I read when I was in high school about a generation ship. This was very late 70's early 80's so it had to be written before 83 when I graduated. I distinctly remember that the ship had been traveling for a VERY long time. I believe, but not sure on this...

Q: Why did Tolkien hate John Lennon?

WadeI read this old question today and was surprised to learn of this: At the end of 1968 there were reports that the Beatles might be involved with a proposed film of The Lord of the Rings. On 7 January 1969 Joy Hill wrote a memo to Rayner Unwin after a visit to Tolkien: ‘Professor Tolkien is getti...

Q: short story where everyone is James Patterson

Hey there, just passing by because I saw something funny
I was looking up information about Superman Prime One Million, and I stumbled upon this website (which is in a broken French): https://askfrance.me/q/le-canon-de-golden-superman-est-il-et-quels-etaient-ses-pouvoirs-exacts-32432669879

And upon seeing the name "FuzzyBoots", I realised it was probably a question from this Stack Exchange community that got stolen and translated by Google Translate or equivalent

Generally speaking, it looks like it's copying a bunch of stuffs from several Stack Exchange communities, but I don't see anything that says the content was taken from Stack Exchange

That's a pretty blatant scraping of the SE site. Unlike other sites that do it, it even preserves the comments, and I don't think "@user14111" is a common enough name to be a coincidence.

Q: A site (or scraper) is copying content from Stack Exchange. What should I do?

PopsSince day one of Stack Overflow, all content posted on Stack Exchange sites by their users (i.e. you wonderful people) has been provided to the whole universe under the CC BY-SA license. For my fellow non-lawyers, that license basically means: Anyone can use any Stack Exchange posts at any time...

Q: Who are all these writers referred to by Premchand?

Rand al'ThorThe first paragraph of Premchand's (true?) short story "My First Composition" (available on the Internet Archive) is: At the time my age was about thirteen years. I was quite ignorant of Hindi. I had a passion for Urdu novels. Maulana Sharar, Pandit Ratan Nath Sarshar, Mirza Ruswa, Maulvi Mohama...

Q: Book about a hive mind with a dark ending

trallgormThis is a book I read around 2010, but is likely to be older. Although I didn't realize it when I read it at first it was a sequel. I believe it is set in modern day America. The plot revolves around a town that is being taken over by some sort of monsters. From what I can recall they are basical...
