Q: Is the ending of the Priest's tale consistent with the rest of the story?

BuzzKirillI'm part way through Dan Simmons' Hyperion; please no spoilers for the rest of the book, if possible (wording, etc). I've just read through the Priest's tale and the ending seemed inconsistent with the rest of the "tale" in several ways. Again, please no spoilers for the rest of the book, if at ...

Q: How did Kreacher know that Lupin was a werewolf and Hermione was a muggle-born?

Dheeraj KumarWhen Harry first met Kreacher, he was muttering under his breath but that was a very audible muttering. oh, my poor mistress, if she knew, if she knew the scum they've let into her house, what would she say to old Kreacher, oh, the shame of it, Mudbloods and werewolves and traitors and thieves, ...

Q: 1960s? Young race car driver series (Young Adult)

NJohnnyIn the late 60s or early 70s I read a series of books (3 at least) about a young race car driver. (probably 18-20 in the first book) They were hardback books from a library, so could be 5-10 years older. (So could have been published in the 50s or 60s. Specifics I remember from the series: In the...

@TheLethalCarrot maybe Salad Fingers?

Can Salad Fingers put them back on though? I mean you saw how impressive that was

@TheLethalCarrot I was floored

I've got another one
Bet it's under the middle cup

@TheLethalCarrot what amazes me most, is no matter how many times the cat does it, it gets it right....EVERY TIME

It does have sound to its advantage though so... y'know. Cheating really

@TheLethalCarrot is the joke that its a gif so of course it will always be the middle cup? or that its all always the middle cup and the cat was just trained to do that regardless of the shuffling?

There's no joke, my unique magician abilities make it so I can see into the future and know that the middle cup is where the ball will end up

ahhh okay.
I'm sorry I even thought otherwise

Want to see me go invisible?

@TheLethalCarrot can you only do it when no one is looking?

You can be looking the joke doesn't work if you're not

Incredible right?

You were there and then gone and then back aain

I quite like the juxtaposition of TREU and the election chatroom at the minute. I'm making low quality silly jokes in here and then that's a big old discussion on the election system

Q: How do wizards get their wands?

SoaringDragon25Sirius gets a wand during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, but how is this possible since Sirius is an escaped convict from Azkaban? The same goes for all the escaped Death Eaters that broke out of Azkaban. Plus how did Voldemort get his wand...

Q: Is there an explanation anywhere for the ending of Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul?

WadeThere is a multitude of things that I did not understand about the plot of Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul by Douglas Adams. Instead of posting 5-10 different questions on this site, I thought it might be better to ask: is there some explanation (preferably available on the net) to the plot (and e...

Q: A story about an alien race recruiting a human to try and fight star-extinguishing creatures

Vilx-Context The book in question was written... probably around the '60s. I read it back in the early ...

Q: Book/series about boy with powers

Sovereign InquiryThe protagonist of this book is a teenage boy. If my memory serves, the cover might have featured a phoenix in a ring, but that's just what I seem to remember. Q: role of moderators

jimOut of interest I had a question closed. I responded with a required definition of what I mean. Now what? Out of interest, the reviwer seems to complain that the question is pointless because according to their point of view "incontrovertibly Yes. All the androids are sentient as presented on film."

Q: Late 20th century graphic novel about following a time tourist

EnserricHere's something I have been looking for over 13 years. Somewhere between 1995-2000 I read this graphic novel-type of book my father had. It was in a big format (letter?), printed in colors - it was not too thick. The plot was about a tourist from the distant future that travels through time and ...

I think should be left open as "first example of [x]" type question, which has been established are on-topic and not a list. — Skooba 1 hour ago
@Skooba @SQB I think people were trying to get OP to make that change, instead of jumping in and doing it for them.
Certainly that's what I get from Ani's comment and that's how I was feeling too; this user has been around long enough to know how to write a proper question, or at least should be learning (when provided guidance).

8:45 PM
@DavidW I think the OP intent was clear, just need to focus it on "first". I know these questions can be touchy as some feel they are "thinly vailed list questions".
@AncientSwordRage who? lol

DavidI'm trying to track down a short story/novella that I read online, probably at least 3 years ago.
