@DavidW I think a bunch of the main people who used to talk here often have drastically reduced their Chat output in recent weeks/months. E.g. @Jenayah @TheLethalCarrot @Mithical @Rand'alThor (who can't even be pinged anymore).

Q: Earlyish 90s PC Space War / Battle Game

DerekThis was a PC game I remember from the earlyish 90s (1992-1993 or somewhere around then). I remember some specific pieces but not the overall gameplay. It was a game where you built up your army (or maybe empire) and sent ships out for space battles. The two distinct elements I remember are: The...

Q: Why was Chidi writing a thesis?

AdamantAccording to what he said in the first season, Chidi is a professor of moral philosophy. Indeed, we see in the third season that he has an office, a plaque, and so forth. Naturally, that makes one think that his 18-year-long life's work is a monograph, not a dissertation. However, he says at one ...

Q: Why are centaurs only interested in astronomy?

Harry PotterIt's even explicitly stated by Hagrid,in chapter 16 of the Philosopher's Stone - "Ruddy star-gazers. Not interested in anythin' closer'n the moon." Why?

@Alex true. As far as I'm concerned, I'd say it's both a mix of real life being busy these days, and not having a lot of discussions here to participate in. I wouldn't know when/how it started... Vicious circle and all
(I follow everything that gets said here, though)
So, how are you people? :)

7:24 AM
For me I’m always in chat there just doesn’t seem to be anyone in when I am or at least certainly no one talking and work is super busy at the moment too
The feeds aren’t a problem if people are talking but with no one talking they just dominate the room

Q: Are the different uses of "Master" in relation to Jedi ever discussed

BoelabaalAs far as I can tell the word Master is used in 3 differnt way in regards to Jedi. Jedi Master was a rank in the Jedi Order given to powerful Jedi, many of whom were leaders within the Order. A Padawan learner would be assigned to a Master who could be a Jedi of any rank(Knight or Master). In t...

Q: Why didn't Hank Pym carry Scott Lang in his 'tank' key chain?

Ashish YadavIn Ant-Man, when the good guys infiltrated PYM corps to destroy the Yellowjacket prototype. It would be much easier if Pym would have sneaked Scott Lang using his tank key chain rather the all the fuss.

Q: Has there been an originally Sith-trained individual who converted into a Jedi?

Muhammad NizamiIn the movies we have seen Dooku and Anakin, the two originally trained within the Jedi Order becoming Sith Lords. Even though Vader eventually reverted back into being a Jedi, he was originally a Jedi before becoming a Sith Lord. So, I would like to know if there has been the other way around: a...

Q: What's the manga with a exiled former sage?

jared hinesWhen I first read this it was only a chapter or two that was out. Story goes a former sage/hero who looks like a child, lives in some mansion in the middle of nowhere with 4 maids who are some type of monster or demon. Some guy tries to rob the place with his old magic sword that's how you find o...

Maybe we need some controversial Meta?

Q: How does the Babel fish translate the Vogonic phonetic for Barnard’s star?

Cuere EsoneI saw this question asked recently. Presuming that Vogonic cosmography and Human cosmography are unlike, the brain waves for the Human interpretation of Barnard’s star would not correlate with the Vogonic brain waves of their interpretation of the same star. Babel fish

We may be all "here" for some value of "here" that is perhaps less than it was; others are right in that while I have a chat window open for much of the day, it is frequently ignored for hours-long periods.
I think too, that there might be a bit of an effect of not having many major movies to talk about. Those discussions tended to attract people into the room, and many would hang about for a while as the discussion meandered off in various directions.

And there don't seem to be any books that provide the same kind of anticipation-discussion fodder as movies do. (Though there was certainly that when MLO came out.)

Q: Movie with psychics and and an imploding space ship

TreninI saw this movie in the 90s. I don't remember much, but here is what I do remember; The movie takes place on a spaceship, or set of spaceships. I am not sure if there is more than one. The main character was a woman who gave me a Sharon Stone vibe. She had some psychic abilities and classifie...

Q: In what order should I read and watch the Harry Potter series that makes the most sense?

alicia hernandezAs said I have never read the Harry Potter books but in the case that I do in what order should I read them in? And for the movies as well.

@Babelfish Start with the first book, then read the second book... Am I missing something? Is there a Machete order for HP?

questions and the valuable insights they can provide in all honours, but why do people commonly think prequels improve the understanding of their sequels? If that was the case, they wouldn't have been published afterwards.
@Jenayah And no, from looking at the question that really doesn't seem to be the idea. ;-)

@NapoleonWilson I'm as confused as DavidW about why someone would have that question, then

I'm more confused why someone would ask it.

Q: Harry Potter Lily's sacrifice

Nina PotterI don't understand what is the difference between Lily's protection on Harry Potter before and after Voldemort took Harry's blood. The protection worked for Harry before Voldemort took the blood, so why does it make any difference after?

Q: How did Tagon pull off the fireflies trick?

JenayahIn S01E05 of Arthdal Chronicles, Tagon is suddenly surrounded by a swarm of fireflies, which illuminate him in the dark of the night; then he speaks as Aramun Haesulla, and the crowd now firmly believes him to be the god's vessel/reincarnation. Of course, this was all plotted by Tagon to further ...

Q: What happened with the Fem-Ents?

BeardtreeWhile reading the third book, I was waiting constantly for the moment when the Ents would show up on the final battlefield, together with their newly found Fem-Ents, combining their powers into one fierce force of nature, far more powerful than when they tore down Isengard ("off-camera"). That ne...
