@Stormblessed Probably because it's old. Items more than 6 months (I think) old don't have options which leave comments, since they are considered unlikely to be useful.

12:53 AM
@Stormblessed Yes, it's because it's old... That's what the dialogue box said, at least!

@Voldemort'sWrath oh didn’t see that :o

Interesting. I just discovered a book cover isfdb.org/cgi-bin/pl.cgi?708911 that has obviously ripped off part of a classic Michael Whelan picture isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cgi?141345.
I understand when a translation is published with a different cover (isfdb.org/cgi-bin/title.cgi?310761 leftmost Pohl's Jem, second is the German translation of Downbelow Station by Cherryh) but how is a publisher allowed to use (uncredited) parts of someone else's art in a cover?

Q: SF Book with a toxin mixing spider

Seraphim_72I read a paperback back in the mid 80's all I really remember of it was that it was about a group of beings trapped in a planet, one of whom was a large intelligent spider creature that had poisoned spines that it could mix the toxins to make virtually any chemical, medicine, or poison. It seemed...

Q: How is Superman able to defeat Kryptonians who are better trained and skilled than him?

FrontEndDuring Man of Steel, Superman battles and defeats several military trained Kryptonians (eg. Zod, Faora etc) who have much more training and combat skill at their disposal. Faora mentions that he is weak and unsure of himself and Zod mentions that he has trained his entire life. So how is Superma...

Q: 90s(?) book about a female protagonist, who was in an accident and is transplanted into a cyborg body

4llyc4t28I read this book between 1999 and late 2004. I am pretty sure it had a blue cover and may have been published by Penguin. It was a paperback. The story goes, as far as I can remember, that after an accident her body was too badly damaged and she was implanted into a cyborg or bionic shell, which...

Q: Did this ever happen in the history of Spider-Man?

J MIn the end credits of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Mysterio reveals that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Spider-Man's identity was always a secret to the world (at least in the films), only a few people knew Peter is Spider-Man. So I was wondering if something like this happened before. I am looking ...

Q: 1980's sci fi book series, subspace is a sponge, young man in emergency suit can propel himself by sucking in the sponge stuff

DannyMcGI read a couple of sci fi books in the 1980's from UK library, they were from a series... I don't think I read them in the right order so I've a mish-mash of memories. From the context of romance and having a female protagonist I'm assuming it was a woman author. A family controls a sub space dr...

I keep seeing similar popular questions about different universes: scifi.stackexchange.com/q/126050/4918 After Darth Vader was killed, did Luke tell anyone that he was his father? and scifi.stackexchange.com/q/22840/4918 Was Voldemort's secret identity always known to the Ministry of Magic? Was it ever secret?

That's a tenuous link for calling them "similar questions"

@TheLethalCarrot We don't have a separate question about whether the Dark Lord's identity was known after he was defeated. I cover it a bit in my answer, but I don't know much about it. But in either case, you can ask who knew about the secret identity and when.
I used to cross-link such groups of questions in a comment, but this time I'll resist it.

It doesn't really seem helpful to cross link them anyway

@TheLethalCarrot That's why I'm resisting it this time.

Ok, that's not quite the same, both are in the Marvel universe, only about two different characters.

Q: Why is Cage looped back to the day before the invasion?

Q: Quotev story where the author hates anime

Scarlett FelipeI've had 2 all nighters trying to look for this bitch ass story I've tried Google but there probably to busy ignoring my ass. Q: If Cage and an Alpha died at the same moment which reset would take precedence?

Richard CI am not sure if this is discussed in the comics, the movie or any of the literature that has come out since. If Cage dies he resets the day back to before the invasion. If an Alpha dies the Omega resets the day back to before the Alpha died. So if Cage and an Alpha both died at the same mo...

Q: Anime TV Show Identification - Toonami about a Boy with a Sword, and a girl with Uzi's

Hulk Smash 93I dont remember too much as it was show in the earlier 2000's on Toonami. What i remember was a boy with a sword, and he had to go on a journey around the world. He met a girl with brown hair, but he was reluctant for help in the beginning. The girl had two guns that she called Uzi's (I think),...

What’s up with “edit tags”? That not bump posts?

@Stormblessed That seems intentional. No more churn on the active list just to retag stuff!

Clinton BlackmoreIn the second episode of Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda, "An Affirming Flame", the engines are down on the Andromeda, and their enemy/raider Gerentex pushes the ship towards a black hole. @DavidW my question is do they bump posts?

Pretty sure that the inline tag editor doesn't bump, but let me test.

SQB
Yes, they do.
All edits should bump posts.

@SQB You're right; I was mistaken.
I suspect that what must have happened yesterday was that my tag edit was also done "simultaneously" by TLC as part of a broader edit, so mine didn't count.

3:56 PM
Ok so what is the edit tags thing for?

It's an inline tag editor
So you can make quick tag only edits

weird you need so much rep. for it

The same reason you need 2k for edit privs... to encourage you to do full and complete edits

A: Would the UK have to pay anything to the EU in case of a no-deal Brexit?

AbigailYes, but it's wrong to see it as "pay back". It's not about money given to the UK by the EU which the EU now wants back. It's about commitments for future payments which were made by all EU countries, including the UK. A noteworthy example is pensions for EU staff. EU staff has rights to those p...

How'd a suspended user delete their post? That's weird
Oh I think they weren't suspended when that happened

4:55 PM
@Stormblessed it's utterly useless

5:08 PM
@Jenayah I would not go so far as to say "utterly;" it's an affordance. If what you want to do is retag something (like adding "story-identification" in review) then it's much cleaner than editing the post as a whole.
Notably, when you "edit tags" the input box appears at approximately the same location, with the cursor already inserted. Whereas if you "edit" the post-especially for a long question-you may have to go looking for the tags field.
(Since the tag input field follows the preview of the question, it necessarily ends up further down the page since the editor pane is inserted ahead of the preview.)

Meh. I think always having to take a look at the core post itself before editing would make you remember the millions of "little things" that can be fixed, not just tags

Q: Western novel series set around the civil war

@TheLethalCarrot It never encouraged me. I could still edit tags with the normal editor before I got that privilage, and I still don't know that kind of editor. SE already has too much of the fancy javascript interface, I don't need more, and I don't consider it a privilage.
@DavidW That's exactly what I'm talking about. Too much fancy interface. Even this way, the tags have to be edited with some inconvenient javascripted stuff.

@b_jonas I'm on the fence about that one. On the one hand, I agree about the fuzziness caused by excessive JS in a UI. (I can only imagine how painful it would be to attempt to edit using assistive technologies.) On the other hand, given how tags work, it makes complete sense to do as much as possible to direct people to existing tags instead of making it completely free-form, and any other UI for that would be worse.

I like puffins.

Q: Anime about a girl and evil robot

lukaszkupsIt's probably from 80-90s. I remember that a girl probably crashed on some remote planet and was chased / hunting an evil robot that was indestructible.
