I have a reverse story id question if anyone can help.

Oh?

Some time ago (a few years) I remember someone posting a story id question. It was a vaguely Cthulhu Mythos story in which the protagonist is chased by a worm / snake like creature, and only realises at the end that the "worm" is just part of some huge being.
At the time I knew that I knew the story but could put my finger on it. However I've just stumbled across the story I was thinking of, and it's Imprisoned with the Pharaohs by Lovecraft.
But having found the answer, I now can't find the question on our site.
The reveal is that the five headed monster chasing the protagonist is actually the gigantic being's hand:
> Accursed is the sight, be it in dream or not, that revealed to me the supreme horror--the unknown God of the Dead, which licks its colossal chops in the unsuspected abyss, fed hideous morsels by soulless absurdities that should not exist. The five-headed monster that emerged...that five-headed monster as large as a hippopotamus...the five headed monster--and that of which it is the merest forepaw

@Jenayah I can't remember I'm afraid.
I'm assuming it has no accepted answer since I've searched for "Imprisoned with the Pharaohs" and found nothing.
(unless of course I'm wrong and the answer isn't what I think)

'cos if it was deleted that implies going through SEDE innit? :/

Jeopardy! is an American television game show created by Merv Griffin. The show features a quiz competition in which contestants are presented with general knowledge clues in the form of answers, and must phrase their responses in the form of questions. The original daytime version debuted on NBC on March 30, 1964, and aired until January 3, 1975. A weekly nighttime syndicated edition aired from September 1974 to September 1975, and a revival, The All-New Jeopardy!, ran on NBC from October 1978 to March 1979. The current version, a daily syndicated show produced by Sony Pictures Television, premiered...

It has the longest known lifespan of all vertebrate species (estimated to be between 300–500 years), and is among the largest extant species of shark. As an adaptation to living at depth, it has a high concentration of trimethylamine N...

@NeoDarwin well, I think the SW fight was a case of the system being misleading.
As for the other two edits (and SO many more edits, actually), only the editor can tell you the exact reason behind their thinking.
If you squint your eyes, it's useful. Other than that, there's the last sentence of my answer.

Yes I fully agree with the last line.

4:10 PM
Anyone else here read Skulduggery Pleasant?
If you haven’t, you definitely should
Very good series

Nope, seen it a couple of times in junior high's library I think

@Jenayah It's a little confusingly worded.

@Alex ?

@Jenayah The way it's phrased now it sounds like the "cash in a Leave Closed vote (progress towards Reviewer/Steward badges...), and then vote to delete it right after that, repeatedly" part is part of the directive, when I think you mean it as part of a list of things the editor happened to do.
I would rewrite it as: "when you're going to edit off-topic questions with a very minor edit, and then cash in a Leave Closed vote (progress towards Reviewer/Steward badges...) and vote to delete it right after that, repeatedly,"

I'm not sure how that missing "then" is misleading

4:18 PM
The additional words "and then" shows that it's not something that you're telling them to do, but something that they have done.

But... doesn't the end of the sentence clearly states that I disapprove of doing the three before things?

Yes, but the sentence is long enough that by the time a reader gets to that part they may already be confused.

meh if the reader has gone through all that long answer of mine they're ready to handle on last sentence ;)

@Jenayah Your choice...

@NeoDarwin Not sure what that means.
I've been accused here of being a robot, a bathtub, an offspring of an elephant, but never jelly as far as I know...

@Alex It's like Pokémon. Gotta catch 'em all
Actually if you're all that, plus jelly, you might be a Metamorph/Ditto!

Jelly is a Pokémon?
@Jenayah Is that like an Animorph?

Posting on Meta (which I'm in the process of doing).
@Jenayah Ah, Ditto I remember.

4:30 PM
It's a Pokémon which can take the shape of any other Pokémon it's faced with.
Which sounds cool at first, but sucks greatly in combat, because most Pokémon aren't weak to themselves.
So Ditto is mainly used to hatch eggs. Like, factory-used to hatch eggs. That thing only presents an interest for reproduction
@Alex SFF Meta?

@Jenayah Yes.

@Jenayah which answer?

A: What's up with prominent users editing blatantly off topic posts?

JenayahAbbreviations reminder, just in case: DV = downvote, VTC/VTD = vote to close/delete, LQP = low quality posts. First, as Kevin pointed out in a comment, there are a couple of reasons to edit off-topic questions. Removing or fixing bad tags. In case the post later gets edited in an on-topic...

Done.

> Such edits would only have a downside if they were done in a way which sent the post out of the Close Queue or into the Reopen Queue. The latter is less likely to happen because that means the question has already been closed.
bwahahah
may I suggest you take a peek at the Reopen queue history

4:39 PM
@Jenayah I think 90% of it is from me.

@Alex more like 10%.

@Jenayah Maybe, but are all the other ones the result of minor edits?

the other 90%? No, not all 90%

A significant amount?
(Stay tuned for my forthcoming Meta post about the 10%.)

@Alex define "significatn amount"

@Jenayah For the most part I only look at the posts.
@Jenayah More than Stack Exchange search?

@Alex I know that, but I was referring to scifi.stackexchange.com/review
@Alex even more, because it includes SE search

@Jenayah I know. Even when I check out the queues I only look at the Harry Potter ones.

@Alex I'm not talking about reviewing the others, only to check the timeline on the ones you might see popping in reopen queue
(there's a "skip" button)

@Jenayah Eh, I'll trust your opinion rather than stalking timelines of questions that I'm not interested in.

@Alex use the full site - it's even mostly responsive

@Mithrandir On a phone?

@Alex yeah
'tis what I do

@Alex SE search seems fine
What’s wrong with it?

@Mithrandir I find the app easier for most things. For the things it can’t do I can usually wait to get back to my computer. Or in urgent situations access the site on my phone for one action.
@Stormblessed Jenayah’s the one who hates it. I’m just patronizing her.

@Stormblessed it doesn't do synonyms, it sucks at finding dupes

I also use the Ask Question feature for that.

Magical theory is... kinda confined to Harry Potter, and it is something that someone could potentially "specialize" in, in a universe as large as HP. Space combat doesn't seem to be confined to a single franchise.

The flank steak is a beef steak cut from the abdominal muscles or lower chest of the cow. The cut is common in Colombia, where it is known as sobrebarriga, literally meaning "over the belly".. In Brazil, it is called fraldinha which literally translates to "little diaper" - named because of its position near the cow's groin and also its shape like a cloth diaper. Similarily, a French butcher would refer to it as the bavette, which also means "bib". == Description == A relatively long and flat cut, flank steak is used in a variety of dishes including London broil and as an alternative to ...

@Jenayah How's it different?

Hello!
So I bountied my question for 100, but the views haven't really gone very high in number
What can I do?

Well your flag sends the question to review queue, but doesn't count as a vote. It basically says "hey, people with more experience on the site, I think this is off-topic. Please review." and then the ones with "more experience" (read: VTC privilege) act accordingly (or reject)
@Named hi there!
@Named not much, I'm afraid. Bounties are always a bit of a gamble :/
