Q: How did Kraglin end up with Yondu Udonta's prototype fin?

Major StackingsWe saw Quill give Kragin Yondu's repaired arrow, and we saw Yondu's funeral during which Yondu was wearing his prototype fin as he seemed to disolve into bright bits of color and streamed into the void. We know how he ended up with the arrow. How did Kraglin end up with Yondu Udonta's prototype ...

Q: Why is Thranduil portrayed more noble as opposed to his woodland elves?

JoeSlavThe assumption that Thranduil is more noble is conveyed in the movies by the fact that he has blonde hairs and more "lighty" demeanor. @TheLethalCarrot Animated series? scifi.stackexchange.com/q/187598/98028
Not a series as far as I can tell, even if unclear if cartoon or anime
Although my guess would be it falls on the cartoon side

Yeah my fault when I created the tag, it wants a better name

Pretty sure it's not an anime actually, it was added by someone else than OP
I'd say OP could have reverted it but they also added back SFgenre tag so
eh, not the biggest deal
So just ?
thinks about a better name

The original tag for this purpose was animation but it was getting cluttered and it isn't a great name so it wanted something better animated-series was the best I came up with
Although that is almost certainly a cartoon aye

I've really been enjoying a new book in one of my favorite series.
The Peter Grant series (alternatively, the Rivers of London series or the PC Grant series) is a series of urban fantasy novels by English author Ben Aaronovitch, and comics/graphic novels by Aaronovitch and Andrew Cartmel, illustrated by Lee Sullivan. == Plot overview == === Novels and novellas === ==== Rivers of London ==== (American Title: Midnight Riot) The novel centres around the adventures of Peter Grant, a young officer in the Metropolitan Police; who, following an unexpected encounter with a ghost, is recruited into the small branch of the Met that deals with magic and the su...

@Donald.McLean - Good series! I've read the first three books, I've slowed down, because I really enjoy them (Yes, I'm crazy that way - I like knowing they're something on my "not yet read" list that I can turn to when I'm not feeling like taking a risk on something new, or re-reading something old).

@RDFozz I understand. Lately I've had to resort to doing things other than reading due to consistent failures to find something I'm in the mood to read.
And I'm still waiting for the comic book company to fix the Kobo download for the omnibus edition of Night Witch.

Problem is I bet 99% of plot hole questions aren't about a plot hole

I don't mean "plot hole" in some formal definitional sense. I just mean questions that point out problems as opposed to questions that simply ask for information.

The only difference is really in the formulation of the question and the reasoning behind asking it I suppose though in some cases
I could certainly ask a question to "ask for information" and "point out a problem" and they'd both be the same question underneath

Yeah, but most times there's an obvious difference.

Not an obvious difference in the answer though
I mean a question that points out a problem likely did more research though

There won't be a difference in the answer when the question is the same but just phrased differently. But when the questions are actually different the answers will be as well.

@TheLethalCarrot out of curiosity why add "for questions about..." in tag excerpts? I mean tags are on questions anyway so it's a given, no?

Maybe when I get back to a computer.

@Alex how did you came across that, btw?

@Jenayah I always wondered that, too. The other day I was going through tags on a different site and I kept on seeing "for questions about".
@Jenayah I was looking for information about the book mentioned in Valorum's answer. That led me to the book on Amazon. The description there said that it is a collection of Pottermore writings. SO I wondered why I should buy a book that is just a collection of already online material. But I couldn't find such writings on Pottermore. So I googled an exact quote, and one of the results that came up was that website.

oh, alright
hey wouldn't that be one of those writings that are only visible if you have a Pottermore account or stuff?

I try to edit in excerpt on tags that miss one and update the relevant franchise tags that go along

10:52 PM
@Jenayah I don't think it's specifically asking for the history. I think it's more just asking if there are any stories at all featuring such a concept.

Sure, but those are usually reworked with the "first instance of" to aviod it being closed as too broad
It's cheating, granted.

Well I guess the first instance of it would by definition answer the question of any instance of it, though it might limit other answers that people assume are not the first instance.
Interesting. My earlier comment has two stars, but all the surrounding comments have been removed so there is absolutely no context to what my comment is talking about.

Nov 28 at 20:34, by Alex
@Jenayah Context is overrrated.

@Jenayah It's overrated when I'm trying to make it seem like you insulted me. I don't know if it's always overrated.

11:08 PM
that's convenient :P

I'm willing to make allowances for you as well, depending on the situation.

Gonna have to define "allowance" in this context (no pun intended) as the only usage I know is for money parents give to their kids once a week/month :P

First definition here:

@Jenayah According to my big Oxford that's on the shelf next to me, allowance |> noun 1 the amount of something that is permitted, especially within a set of regulations or for a specified purpose: your baggage allowance. [] [two irrelevant defs] 2 a sum of money paid regularly to a person to meet needs or expenses: the elderly receive a heating allowance every winter. [] (chiefly N. Amer.) a small amount of money given regularly to a child by its parents.
3 [mass noun] (archaic) tolerance: *the allowance of slavery in the south. |> verb [verb definitions] - PHRASES make allowance(s) for 1 take into consideration when planning something. 2 treat leniently on account of mitigating circumstances. - ORIGIN [etymology]
The noun definition 2 is the one you've mentioned, and the one under PHRASES is what you're looking for here.
@Alex What dictionary is that from?

@b_jonas Not sure. It's the top result from googling the word "allowance".

11:23 PM
@Alex Thanks, I was too lazy to Google :P you may downvote for "This question does not show any research effort; it is unclear or not useful"

@Jenayah You could google, but you often wouldn't get such good definitions as in my Oxfords and Longmans.

@Jenayah No problem. Ironically, the word apparently comes from French.

@Alex The first instance would not answer the question any other instances of it, if the instance referred to was in fact the first instance.

You'd find Webster style definitions, which suck, they only work if you already know the meaning of every other word.
I've ranted about it much so I won't start again now.

@RDFozz Fair point.

11:24 PM
@b_jonas yup, that's clearer, thanks :)
@Alex ah, "allouer" I'd guess

As I've brought in similar circumstances on a different stack - it seems to me that "Does X exist" isn't overly broad, in that the first answer that shows evidence of at least 1 X existing answers the question.
I believe the complaint that others mentioned was that it does not necessarily deter others from choosing to provide additional examples, where you could wind up with (say) 47 distinct yet all equally valid answers.

@Jenayah Indeed:

@Alex I omitted the etymology information from the dictionary.

@RDFozz I imagine there must be some line, even if somewhat arbitrary. Just like a story-identification might fit more than one story, but if there are so few details that it could fit dozens of stories it would probably be too broad.

@Alex eh, back in the old days where it only had one l :p

11:28 PM
@Alex And here I thought that meant to pluck.
Alouette, gentille alouette, Alouette, je te plumerai.

@Alex That's badly written story-id questions. We have a lot of them.

@RDFozz Don't you ducking dare put that song in my head ><

They mention a trope and sometimes whether it was on TV or book, and that's all. They're terrible.

Wait, Alouette is "pretty birdie" I think; the "plumerai" is to pluck.

yeah

11:30 PM
But those don't generally get upvoted, except in the few cases when OP goes back to edit in significant details.

@Jenayah Sorry - at least I try to mentally turn it into English, so the true grotesqueness of it sticks out.
^ to me, I mean - for you, the French version is entirely gross enough, I'm sure.
@Jenayah Although, the correct response would have been a stage direction to myself: namely:
