Q: Given Moore's law, how long until our computers can run Data as a PC app?

Miss UnderstandsMoore's law states that computer power (it has a technical definition) doubles about every 18 months. I remember there was an episode in which data explained his processing speed and memory, but I don't remember the numbers. As a baseline,a new video catd can do 50 trillion ops/sec and my PC is 5...

Q: Could Data have acquired Spot with the food replicator?

Miss UnderstandsWe know that digital patterns of live animals can be stored for long times (e.g. Scotty, Relics). Couldn't they store the patterns of generic small animals and recreate them using the replicator, exactly how they simulate meat?

Q: Manga where Mc finds a dragon and becomes popular

ShobbzFirst, it is not an isekai. Although there are magic, adventurer and fantasy race it happens in the modern world. The mc find a dragon(maybe in a egg) keept it and he became friend with a noble and a princess. I think the mec is also the son of a hero and is really strong.

Q: A short fiction about angels appearing and causing both miracles and disasters

AlfredAbout 15 or 20 years ago I read in a collection a complicated short story (or maybe novelette) in which angels sometimes appear. It takes palce in a world not very different from ours, apart for these apparitions. When they appear, the angels do cure some people who are ill or crippled, but also ...

I've been listening to Alien Clay, and it's a really great book if you're into hard sci-fi (for a given value of hard) with some body horror and speculative biology

@DavidW Any idea how this answer got deleted even with a positive score?
I'm pinging you since you were the last delete-voter. Did you, for example, downvote the answer so that your delete vote could go through and then undownvote it? Would seem strange, since the rep lost from a downvote is regained when the post is deleted, but that's the only explanation I can think of beyond system error.
Normally, an answer with a positive score can't be deleted without mod intervention or enough downvotes to get it negative or zero.
I'm writing up a bug report on Meta Stack Exchange, but wanted to ping you first, just in case this is somehow explainable within the way the system works correctly AIUI.
The delete vote came from the review but unless something has changed you never used to be able to be able to Delete in LQP if the post had a positive score, it gets changed to Recommend Deletion. Perhaps the vote came in after the LQP review was loaded and then the final Delete vote from within the review doesn't have the same post score checks on it?
16:00
@Randal'Thor I'm pretty sure it was at -1 when I voted on it in review.
@Randal'Thor It's at 0 now? Was it 1 when you looked or 0? I'm pretty sure you can VTD in LQP at 0
But even so, it is still possible to vote to delete 0-scored posts from review no? It may count as "Recommend Deletion" but enough of those will still delete a 0-scored post IIRC.
Hmm. Actually, I see that the latest LPQ post is negative, so that may be what I'm recalling. It's possible it was at 0, but as I said I've seen that before and didn't consider it exceptional.
If it makes you feel better, next time it happens I'll downvote it before I VTD. :)
(And leave it that way, of course.)
@TheLethalCarrot Wait, wth? How has its score changed after deletion?
See the screenshot in my main meta post - it had a score of 1 when I saw it.
@DavidW Yes, 0-scored posts can be deleted from review, but this one had a strictly positive score.
@Randal'Thor Then how is it a 0 now? Votes can't be changed after deletion.
I've no idea. The plot thickens.
16:10
@Randal'Thor I was also pretty sure it was at 1 when I looked straight away when you posted in here... perhaps vote reversal script?
I'm sure it wasn't +1 when I voted on it. I would definitely have voted it down to zero if it had a positive score.
@TheLethalCarrot My screenshot proves that it was at +1 before, so we're not going mad and imagining that.
Could someone have gone through and downvoted a bunch of that user's posts (there were suddenly a spate of poor quality answers by that user) and thus that post had a 0 score before "serial downvoting was reversed" bumped that post back positive?
We had two users each post a large number of poor answers this weekend, and I had to be very conscious of how many downvotes I was giving to not get reversed.
@DavidW That's possible on a deleted post, at least overnight, but only a mod could confirm

Q: Looking for an 80s or early 90s (1990) giant space robot comic

DaniDoniIt featured big robots in space. I only remember fragments of it. The robots were in space, with oversized forearms and shins. They had an energy weapon on one of the forearm (or both, don't remember) and had also some kind of spike/blade at the end of said forearm. In one issue, they were talkin...

A: Answers with positive score can now be deleted by non-mods?

animusonThey can't. What happened was actually a result of our automatic vote invalidation system. The short of it is, the answer did have a score of 0 at the time it was deleted. There was previously a downvote on the answer, but the downvote was auto-invalidated a few hours prior to that. For performan...

^ @DavidW @TheLethalCarrot @Laurel closure on that issue, FYI

@Randal'Thor Aha, my guess about vote invalidation was correct then.

Q: A Short Story About A Robot Family With Shut Down Buttons On Their Backs

Luminaris LabsThere was a short story I had to read in middle school about a mother and her robot child. There was a constant reminder that the child had a button on their back or the back of their neck, and in a moment of desperation, the mother pushes it and powers off her child. There was a twist that the m...

Q: How viable would Loki's scepter be to influence people without anyone knowing?

SebstaBro7Let's say somehow you were miraculously able to tap a politician with the scepter and force them to resign and they schedule an appearance on TV to do so publicly. Would people catch on that something is off or not notice? I am thinking that since they act differently and their eyes turn bright b...

@Randal'Thor scifi.stackexchange.com/review/low-quality-posts/215304 Current review, post at +1, I was able to vote "recommend deletion."
Was it just the "Delete" vote that shouldn't be possible at positive score, or any deletion vote at all?
