Q: Is this a mistaken reference to Peacekeepers?

AlexIn Chapter Five of Catching Fire we have the following statement from Effie Trinket: "So, I was just having a peek around because district ruins are going to be all the rage this year, when two Peacemakers showed up and ordered me back to our quarters. One of them actually poked me with her gun!"...

Q: What does the line "Take me where I cannot stand" mean?

Rogue JediFrom Firefly's theme song: Take my love, take my land Take me where I cannot stand I don't care, I'm still free You can't take the sky from me. Everything's meaning seems pretty obvious, except for "Take me where I cannot stand." Have any of the creators or writers commented on i...

This is a good personal interpretation, but I'm looking for the official meaning. — Rogue Jedi Oct 29 '15 at 13:51

Q: Horror movie title

user132812What is the title of this movie? I think it's set somewhere in europe. There were group of friends in a yacht in the middle of the sea when a strong storm capsized their boat. Some managed to survive and got drifted in an island with small village. Apparently, they are killers and skin their prey...

It's suggested that further comments by instigator/author of question is not for showing appreciation for response(s). Am surprised there are two versions extant. I've been cudgeling my gray matter trying to dredge further details when began to feel I should check Spider Robinson. Am glade to know was on right track. Appreciate both & will attempt to acquire same. Lost large library of books in storage. Financial issues. Am re-acquiring what can when possible. Somewhat surprised. Quick results. I express appreciation despite suggestion not. Paronomasians, go forth & pun-tificate. — Quisizyx yesterday
There's something poetic about this telegram-style comment.

Q: Old anime where a school girl is a reincarnation of a war god and fights monsters/machines

EllieThe anime I am looking for is one I remember very distantly so pardon me for my lack of details. To start it off there is a school girl with brown hair down to her ears/neck who goes on a school trip. Everything starts off normal but then these monster/machine(?) things jump down and start wreaki...

A: What books does the Hunger Games movie span?

SQBBy the power of hindsight and Wikipedia, the films were as follows, each spanning the book they were named for: The Hunger Games (2012) The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014) The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (2015) A film adaptation of The Balla...

In 2012, this should've been closed under "future works". 8 years later, it was just a simple lookup on Wikipedia (and thus a cw answer).

Q: Manga about a guy who was reborn as some noble's daughter

SirJanerThe guy was a playboy, who used women as he wanted. He died and was reborn as some noble's first daughter. The daughter was useless(?) and tried(?) to kill herself with poison. MC started to fight with second daughter and her mother for power in family.

Is anyone else not receiving reputation notifications?

No-repro
Have you opened it and checked if you've had a loss?

I have something like +70 and -7 in the last 12 hours, but haven’t gotten any notifications.
Never mind. I looked back further and saw another +50 with no notifications, and then noticed that right before that I had a -180 because a user was removed.

2:38 PM
Similar happened to me (probably the same user) and once I got back above the loss the notifications started again. Figured it was just the system's way of handling that.

I got a -40 as well. Wonder why the votes were thrown away, they're usually kept if the user has a lot of votes.

3:23 PM
@SQB Meh, I accepted the closure, and in any case it certainly wouldn't add value to the site now.
@Mithical "A lot" is relative. I dunno what the threshold is, but 18 votes for a single user could mean just a few hundred overall if it was a user mainly in the tag, which might not be enough to preserve them.
On Literature a high-rep user, who IIRC had voted and reviewed a lot in private beta days, was recently deleted, and we still lost some rep. (Dunno if you noticed?)

@Jenayah YABS doesn't count for YARB.

was wondering if you'd catch that :-)

You actually had a couple recently.
As did I, apparently.
On a self-answer no less.

Two a month ago is not necessarily what I'd call "a couple recetnly" :p

4:22 PM
A month ago isn't recent?
Or recetn, even.

Given the rates at which I was collecting up Revival badges at some point, no :p
I do have a couple answers to write though, just never had the time/got lazy/didn't have acess to the computer or the resources

@Jenayah How did you get so many Revivals? I mostly get Necromancers only, which is slightly concerning the same way as potentially getting the bronze tag badge, which I'm deliberately avoiding.

@b_jonas finding story-ID stuff months/years later, mostly

@Jenayah Sure, but if it's years later, how come you don't get Necromancer instead? It looks like the site doesn't award Revival when you're eligible for Necromancer, because I have more Necro badges than Revival.

also having a good memory of unanswered ID questions I've searched for with no result but eventually find a partial match days/weeks later
@b_jonas because these answers don't always reach 5 upvotes
you can be eligible for both, but for Revival you have to be the first to answer (or the first answer to reach +2, even if one answer was posted days after the question was asked, as long as you answered 30 days later)

4:35 PM
@b_jonas You can get both badges for the same answer. But Revival requires you to be the first answer with a score of +2, while Necromancer only requires a score without being first.

@Alex I see.

Hence why I'd imagine a large part of Necromancer badges were awarded to "years later, after other answered speculated on XYZ, some writer revealed in an interview that foo actually did the bar in this specific way"

That does explain why Jenayah is getting them for story-id, those are more likely to be first answers.

A lot depends on the site, and perhaps even tags. Here I have five times as many Necromancers as Revivals, but on another site I have one and a half times as many Revivals as Necromancers.

Yes, but they're also not likely to gather a lot of upvotes if they were not new questions, especially on non-written media (cartoons, movies, animes...)

4:39 PM
@Jenayah Ah yes. George Lucas, J. K. Rowling, and the Holywood industry that makes sequels and tie-ins until the money dries up.

You only need five upvotes for Necro.

38 out of my 52 Revival badges are on ID stuff.

25 out of my 26 Necromancers are on .

14 out of my 24 Necromancers are on ID stuff.
All 10 others are 9 on comics, 1 on unrelated stuff

11 of my 17 Necromancers are on . One is not about Harry Potter, but about a wizard who does not do necromancy.
2 of the 17 Necromancers are for story-id.

4:44 PM
Some of my proudest answers are in the "9 on comics" Necromancer ones :-)
@Alex to be fair, I'd gather most of your badges are on HP stuff.
Heck, 384 answers out of your 401 are on HP stuff.

5:04 PM
@Jenayah Most of all my stuff is on Harry Potter.

yup

@Jenayah I have 17 non-Harry Potter answers? That’s more than I’d expect.

Actually maybe not, I forgot I just answered a whole bunch of Hunger Games.

5:09 PM
2 Asimov, 2 Story Identification, 1 comic, 1 Artemis Fowl, 1 Star Wars, and 1 Plato.
Not such a bad lineup after all.

Arguably one of your Qs is a story-ID on HP fanfic, so HP expertise does not really come into play there

In terms of what?

I mean, I wouldn't count that as a HP question.
It's a story-ID question, tangentially related to HP

True, though you could argue that I only read it in the fiest place because of interest in Harry Potter.

sure, sure

5:15 PM
So either 3 or 4 out of 55.
Hm, it’s actually been a while since my last Harry Potter question. Gotta think of something particularly twisted.
