Q: Why do people keep referring to Leia as Princess Leia, even after the destruction of Alderaan?

The Dark LordI know that Leia was referred to as a princess from the start of A New Hope on account of her being the daughter Bail and Breha Organa - despite the fact that she was adopted. Yet her royal status undoubtedly stems from position on Aldaraan, rather than any connection to the royal family of Naboo...

Q: Short story where a snail-like alien creature preys upon the protagonist in the end

DavidThe description of the story may be a little bit wrong since I have read this story many years ago. It deals with this man which is going to buy a relic from a seller and the seller ...

Hunter StricklandWe all know that Captain America's shield is the most virtually indestructible object in Marvel Comics. We also know that the shield can absorb kinetic energy of impacts, but what other properties does the metal of the Captain America's shield have?

@Stormblessed Well, you haven't asked any extremely hard questions yet, or questions that require a copy of the book on hand. :) (I have limited shelf space, so only the last few - from Snuff on - are not in storage right now.)

I may be a bit slow (actually, I don't know if I really need to qualify that) but I just realized that in a lot of cases questions on the HNQ list aren't necessarily good or interesting questions; rather it's just that they're easy enough to collect multiple answers very quickly. Of the top 10 questions on the HNQ list that was just displayed to me none of them were on sites I've joined, but fully half of them I could easily have answered.

That is exactly what most HNQs are.

@Jenayah I have that with Dutch words in English texts, like placenames.

@SQB I'm completely unaware of what's going on in the world on Tuesdays. What happened?

@Jenayah big earthquakes in California, on previously quiet faults, if I'm not mistaken.

@Stormblessed oh shit
Wait where's the scale on that thing

@Jenayah it’s a picture from space, so certainly large

Wait that's a city?
Looks like plain old desert
I'm really having a hard time estimating/finding the scale on that
I mean sure it can be seen from space, but a good bunch of stuff can be seen from space with a decent zoom

Just today I've noticed that in addition to the red-circle notification count of replies/mentions on my avatar image, I've been getting a blue-circle notification count that seems to be about flagged messages. (It's probably something I've unlocked somehow, but I don't know why.) My question is, what is the workflow associated with it? Twice it's been there it's reset itself to '0' the instant I try to interact with it, so I'm not sure what's going on.

@DavidW those are chat flags, available to anyone with 10k rep on the network
They're being sent to I think any chatter with 10k+ rep network-wide and currently online, so I'd say some other people handled it before you did

Ah, I see I've recently passed that.
So they're not specific to this room then?

As per the handling it's mostly the usual thing. If it's deffo offensive, mark as valid, if it really isn't, mark as invalid, if you're not sure or feel this might require more context and you're not up to read the transcript of a discussion you weren't part of, skip. Others will handle it
@DavidW congrats!
@DavidW no, they're coming from the whole chat.stackexchange.com
So that excludes main Meta chat (which is a different chat, meta.chat.se), and, I think, Stack Overflow

Hi, welcome to SF&F. What you seem to be saying - that they are the same person - contradicts the premise of the question. If you have evidence that they are in fact the same being, you should cite it. Please read How to Answer. — DavidW 1 min ago

@Stormblessed French is a "romance" language? :-) linguistics.stackexchange.com/q/31889

@Jenayah ?
I’m confused

> However, these are both Romance languages, so it makes sense that they'd be similar in such a fundamental thing.
I think that should read Roman languages, even with France's reputation for romance and all that stuff ;)

@Jenayah Romance languages is a group of languages derived from Latin

Wait
For real?
I always thought that should read Roman languages

The Romance languages (nowadays rarely Romanic languages, Latin languages, Neo-Latin languages) are the modern languages that evolved from Vulgar Latin between the third and eighth centuries and that form a subgroup of the Italic languages within the Indo-European language family. Today, around 800 million people are native speakers worldwide, mainly in Europe, Africa, and the Americas, but also elsewhere. Additionally, the major Romance languages have many non-native speakers and are in widespread use as lingua francas. This is especially the case for French, which is in widespread use throughout...

And second, ahahahah. That makes for a lot of puns on Romance languages and France's reputation for romantic stuff

Q: What's the other properties of vibranium iron alloy?

Hunter StricklandWe know that Vibranium iron alloy is the metal that's in captain america's shield and that's has energy/impact absorbing properties. Does it have elasticity? Is it acid-proof? Can it resist heat extremely well?

@Marvin thought that was about Mistborn for a second
@Jenayah well it is “romane” in French so you can pretend you were confusing it with French :P
(According to Google Translate)
How do you transcribe laughing in French?

@Stormblessed uh, nobody says "langues romanes". Everybody says "langues latines" (Latin languages). It's probably a misuse of language though

@Jenayah oh, ok

@Stormblessed "ahahaha"

11:36 PM
@Jenayah Oh, always starting with an "a"?

You can write it as hahahah if you'd like
Sheesh... This. scifi.stackexchange.com/a/149536/98028 it's an answer, technically, I guess. So I'm reluctant to flag it as NAA. But come on, how did that never got edited or flagged as VLQ when it was still available.

@Jenayah Vote to delete?
You have enough rep

It's all one sentence. The easiest way to tell if a post is incoherent is if it doesn't have a period.

Meh, it sounds awful phrased like this. "I can't be arsed, so I voted to delete".
... well, I guess that's technically what I did, though.
