Kushal BhuyanI am asking this question based on the trailers of the film. As from the trailers, we know that Shazam is pretty much like Superman in terms of superpowers. Ian FryHave you seen a 25 year old?? Because she defiantly looks like 15 at most

Don’t all 15 year olds look defiant? Like, it’s a teenager thing.
(No offence to any of our local teenagers.)

Merry38I'm reading throught Elantris from Brandon Sanderson (great book by the way) and I'm also a D&D (3.5) DM with a great love for psionics. @Stormblessed Yeah, I read the Mistborn series. (Precisely due to Sanderson's involvement with WoT and my desire to get a taste of his writing before getting to WoT 12-14.) Mini-review: his writing is crap on a local scale, and he's not good at describing conversations and interactions in a non-cringey way, but for overarching plot he's really good.
I think you mentioned that question in here before, because I remember researching it but not finding enough to put an good answer together.

userIn the TOS episode Turnabout Intruder, a woman who wants to be a Starfleet captain states that "[y]our world of starship captains doesn't admit women." @Randal'Thor Hmm. This is interesting to hear, because I am considering to start reading Mistborn.

@Jenayah I don't think it is too broad in its current state, it's certainly answerable and could do with tightening up but I don't think it's broad enough to be closed

3:59 PM
@Jenayah Had you VTCd that after I edited it out of the queue?

@TheLethalCarrot yes. Don't wait for it to go to queue, go ahead and VTC already

I was waiting to see if it did actually go to queue or not or if the edit in the queue prevented it
I think the edit may have prevented it going to queue :/

Seems logical

Do you think there's an edit you could make to the question that would be sensible? I want to test something but I'm at 5 already

Not really...
What are you testing? Edit made by someone else?

4:07 PM
Wanted to see if an edit would allow it to go back to queue or not

I don't think it would though
As the vote was casted before the edit

I have an ID question which, unfortunately, probably doesn't fit our site guidelines since I'm not certain if it's an F&SF work.

@Jenayah Huh, you just said you VTCd after the edit?

@TheLethalCarrot yeah

You're confusing me now... get out your paint skills we need a timeline

4:10 PM
I meant the vote would be casted before "my" edit

Oh gotcha
You mean because your vote was cast before your edit?

Your edit > I vtced > my edit > no close vote casted on latest revision, no reason to go to queue

@Jenayah It's a cartoon.

@Jenayah I've VTC'd now anyway so we can see the results of this experiment
Not that I did it just "for science" as I said above

4:13 PM
So, on the off chance someone remembers this, I read an article within the last three years. A guy involved in a Saturday Morning cartoon had died recently. They mentioned his unusual technique, which I think involved the soundtrack and voices being recorded, and then he animated an episode that matched that.
I keep wanting to say it's Roger Ramjet, but I can't find any mention of that being the case there.

Like Fantasia?

{nods} Kind of like, except it did include dialogue. It came to mind when one of my friends was commenting on the differences between Eastern and Western animation in terms of which comes first, voice-acting and animation.

anml_guestWhat I remember is a little girl has this tiny cat that gets into her lunch box and eats a bite out of her sandwich by chomping through the plastic. I read this book about 25 years ago so it's got to be older then that.

@Jenayah Looks like the edit in review stops it going back again, would be interesting to see if another edit on the post sends it back and/or if another edit followed by a VTC/flag does

@AncientSwordRage I always meant to go through finding examples to list, but I never did get round to writing my review for the blog. Here's one example of his locally crappy writing though:
@muru Sanderson ain't very good at "show, don't tell". Wellen perked up, remembering something. "What?" the Survivor asked, apparently noticing Wellen's change in posture. <--- one of many examples — Rand al'Thor Jun 14 '17 at 10:53

@NapoleonWilson Like I said, he's not good at "show, don't tell". Describe the people's behaviour/reactions in a way that makes clear that one guy is remembering something and the other guy is noticing his change in posture, rather than just telling the reader that that's what's happening.

So saying that Wellen remembered something is too verbose?
How would you say that the Survivor noticed Wellen's change in posture? I could get behind leaving that part away entirely, but it seems like you'd expect something else in its place instead.

Well, yes, remove it entirely would be a good option. If he's saying "What?", surely it's clear that he's noticed that something just occurred to the other guy.
And surely this is something that anyone who's had a normal conversation with another human should know ...
I guess Sanderson being a cyborg would explain how he can churn out so many books.

@Randal'Thor Well, sure, but...it's a novel, not a drama. People actually...describe stuff in these. ;-)

Part of the enjoyment of reading many novels is to work things out for yourself which aren't stated explicitly.
But I guess writing for a target audience of imbeciles is part of the direction of modern society.

7:30 PM

Uuuhhh...
How about... Self-moderation? :-)

?
I don't like being treated like an imbecile, and "show and tell" kinda gives me that feeling.

@Randal'Thor Would you rather be treated like an imbecile but thought of as regular, or be treated regular but be thought of as an imbecile?

Eeeeh might just be me not reading stuff well but that read like you were saying Sanderson audiences were imbeciles
Well treated as such by the author... But wasn't really refuting it
