@Stormblessed it should, if you're looking for a TV show or stuff
agreed, guidance could use an update. Thoughts, people?
@SQB you're the one who proposed better guidance for story-id tags of late

@Stormblessed you left a "novel" in there
if it was on a post I'd improve the edit myself but I don't have enough rep to do that on tag wikis yet

@Jenayah Fixed it

and FWIW I said TV show but also includes TV movies, docufictions and the like

@Jenayah Fixed

It says in Harry Potter that Harry had a "small fortune" that he inherited from his parents, but how much exactly is this? the book doesn't state it. Translated to pounds, how much exactly is this?

@Stormblessed FWIW in my book (pun intended) unless OP explicitly says "novel", the default tag should be "books"
I think @TheLethalCarrot goes by that rule of thumb too

@Marvin Is that weird format because it got deleted too quickly?

@Jenayah Why?

@Alex yeah

12:16 AM
The OP of the diamond alien thing said "Old book"
It's certainly fiction, novel means "fictional book"

a novel is rather long, for starters

I wonder how many people realize that deleting a closed question harms your positive question record more than leaving it.

@Jenayah I would call basically any fictional book a novel

could've been a novelette/novella/ novellita whateves

Even Fahrenheit 451 is a novel to me

ZypherNovel is always a book, but a book is not always a novel. So I say go with the more inclusive term.

Q: Should we do away with the media tags (books, novel, TV, movies, etc.)?

Borror0It's quite clear to me that all the media tags are meta tags: they can't stand on their own, at least on open questions, and they're not tags you'd search for. Moreover, they're applied only spottily. So, how about we burninate them? Here are the several media format tags that I could find: ...

@Stormblessed Someone should add to the list

Q: Tags: Novel or Book?

morganpdxThere are currently 11 questions each tagged with either novels or books. Should we pick one and standardize, or leave them both? Edit: A more enhanced discussion of media tags is happening at Should we do away with the media tags (books, novel, TV, movies, etc.)? which would make this question...

^ back when there were only ELEVEN book questions...

@Jenayah I still think that 99% of the time "book" in a post is gonna mean novel, you wouldn't use it for a short story

12:24 AM
@Stormblessed that's a list of stuff to potentially kill... ;)

@Jenayah Although to tell the truth, the reason why I remembered the Good Work is that I associate it with the similar worldbuilding in Szathmári Sándor's Kazohinia where a team of people build new buildings, and another team unbuilds them immediately. The difference is that in that case, the teams know about each other and are OK with it.
I don't remember every story that comes up multiple times in story-id, not even the non-anime ones.
Oh, that reminds me.
@Jenayah Asimov's "Profession" is another one that comes up pretty often.
But people are vigilant about that one now, those questions are answered quickly, so much that if you ask a story-id that resembles "Profession" even in any small detail, you have to make sure to clarify that it's not "Profession".

gotcha

no idea

@TheLethalCarrot well duck I have no idea but I might have encountered that one before

apparently LF = Looking for

oi

@Jenayah Ah probably wants editing out then
Hello

11:20 AM
@Jenayah Um, then why is it in parenthesis?

dunno

@TheLethalCarrot No, leave it on because it might not mean that, and perhaps someone who reads a lot of HP fanfiction does recognize it as jargon for something.
With this sort of thing, you can never know if "LF" didn't somehow come to stand for a group of fanfiction where Professor Snape is shipped to the abstract concept of friendship, as that would be obvious to anyone who spends hours every day looking at the right kind of cringy fanart and the labels under them, or something as absurd as that.

Doesn't seem to be in those but if anyone wants to check:
I have no idea who started the trope, but "Daughter of Sirius Black, dead mother, raised by Lupin, falls in love with a Weasley" is incredibly common. I found at least seven of them, a couple of them have the girl being related to the Malfoys, but I don't really have much more time right now, so if anyone wants to dig deeper, be my guest. Hey wait actually you weren't even pinged :P

Of course, all that ignores the original Black Bat character, who was creted by someone other than DC back in the WWII era. From what little I've seen, I think the character was a sort of Batman/Shadow mash-up.
ALso, the Batman, Incorporated Wikipedia page correctly lists Black Bat as Cassandra Cain's new ID after she let Stephanie Brown become Batgirl.

When are we talking about?
I'm a bit late on DC comics of late but last I checked Cass was Orphan and Stephanie was shown the door by Batman
