3:00 PM
@Jenayah that one was their big hit.

@SQB I know, I know

SQB
What's Alliance Ethnik doing these days? Do they still exist?

Just saying that their other texts are really worth it, and a bit deeper :p
(well, "their"... Only Martial remains nowadays)
@SQB doens't ring a bell

SQB
"Simple et Funky"?

@b_jonas about Muggle working for wizards:

Q: How involved are Muggles who are allowed to know about magic in the wizarding world?

user103390To clarify, this is different from the question How involved are Muggle parents in the school lives of their magical kids? I am not talking about coming to Hogwarts. I am thinking outside the school. We know they can go to Diagon Alley with their kids, but could they go alone? Could they visit Ho...

@SQB yeah, I've listened, doesn't ring a bell, and not my kind of jam

SQB
@Jenayah Now/not?

fixed

Mmm, jam.

SQB
I really liked Alliance Ethnik back in the day. And other French hip-hop, such as MC Solaar. Watched La Haine, of course.

3:25 PM
@SQB Ah, I know MCSolaar, but in general hip hop isn't really what I listen to. Yes, I know, I linked a Manau video above, but the word for that would be "celtic rap" (or "bad faith", true :p ). Also, kind of emotionally connected, Brittany theme and all :p
One of the most recent songs is about tabletop RPGs, which is rare enough to be noticed :D

SQB
That is... remarkable.

(Not apropos of anything, just wanted to share.)

@Jenayah Tabletop RPGs, like D&D?

@SQB didn't find an official translation for the lyrics, but the Google Translate one is pretty ok! :) (sorry for Pastebin link, full Google Translate link is too long for chat)
@Donald.McLean aye

SQB
@Jenayah that doesn't really work either. Not on mobile, anyway.

3:39 PM
Side comment - Google Translation has greatly improved recently. It used to be pure garbage but now, when I use it from time to time, I think the translations are rather correct (for English/Spanish/French at least)

I've never heard rapping in French. I couldn't even begin to follow it, as rusty as I am, but I still liked it.

@SQB I'll find a way!

SQB
But other than a verse of Weezer's "In My Garage", I don't think I know any serious songs about RPGs.

user132126
@Jenayah It's machine learning/deep learning algorithms, so the more people use it, the better it gets.

SQB
@Jenayah I'll search a bit, first.

user132126
3:41 PM
Google Translate developed its own intermediate language to translate between languages.

user132126
When I say its own, I mean it did it on its own, people didn't do it.

I'll add it to my library, where it will join quite a few songs whose lyrics I can't understand. Including one five star song in Spanish.

@SQB ok!
@WebHead that is impressive.
@Donald.McLean if you like the "celtic rap" feel (bagpipes, not as 'aggressive' as other raps), it's the band's trademark :)

@Jenayah Rap, generally, is a genre where my like rate is fairly low. Not zero, I haven't found a genre yet where there weren't at least one or two songs I've liked.

Q: If someone falls asleep in animagus form would they change back?

IDontBloodyKnowManBeing an animagus takes a lot of magical energy but since your asleep it's not like you loose energy, you just loose concentration? And since (idk where I read it but I read it somewhere) some people become animals so they can have freedom, like run around or whatever, they wouldn't hold that muc...

@Donald.McLean to be honest, I'd say I'm not really into rap either, but like every other genre it has the odd subgenre that you happen to like, or at least one artist that you just can listen to because you simply find it great :)
That's coming from a girl who mainly listens to power and folk metal as well as soundtracks, for what it's worth :D

I guess what people usually think when hearing "rap" is the cliché aggressive/misogynist thing. There's a lot of this, true, but there are also hidden gems... Just as metal is widely thought to be this "let's be depressed, paint ourselves black, grunt and kill goats".
Long story short, clichés suck.

@Jenayah True dat.
My like rates tend to be highest in the mainstream, hard rock, and dance areas. And by "dance" I mean music specifically designed for dancing which could be anything from big band to hip-hop.

@Donald.McLean Asian setting with Spanish lyrics, that's new :)

3:56 PM
@Jenayah I know. I got the song as a free download years ago when Apple offered up a free Spanish track every week.

@Donald.McLean Got any Tierra Santa ones by any chance? :)

Excellent movie, good song.
@Jenayah Can't say that I've ever heard of that artist.

@Jenayah Sabbat?

@SQB more Turisas.

Q: If The Emperor wanted to reduce humanity's need for the warp why create the 15th?

LiathI've been reading the Horus Heresy series and I've recently completed both The Thousand Sons and The Master of Mankind. The implication throughout the series (and again in this question) is that each of the Primarchs were created for a reason. In The Master of Mankind The Emperor explains to Ra ...

Coincidence, one of my favorite metal bands (if not the favorite) isn't named very far - Sabaton

@Mithrandir This question is almost a day old and no reopen votes. What do you reckon on migrating it to Lit?

@Randal'Thor I'm now tempted to cast a reopen vote, ahah.
Not just for contrariness - I originally voted to leave open:
FWIW, I think the reason to close this as off-topic is that it's not only a SFF trope. I'm voting to leave open since we've seen other "history-of" tropes like this one (not SFF-exclusive) with SFF answers. — Jenayah 22 hours ago

4:25 PM
If you think it should be reopened, feel free.
We have 60 days to decide on migration.
It's got time to run another gauntlet of review queues first.

I reckon just adding "the scifi/fantasy hero" would make it on-topic, even if it's an ugly tweak.

Might make it a less interesting question though, if the theme has developed across all of literature, to restrict it arbitrarily to one genre.

@Randal'Thor true

@Randal'Thor Personally, I voted to Leave Open when it went through the queue, as I think it's on topic here, but I wouldn't mind if it was migrated to Lit.

4:42 PM
@Mithrandir OK, I'll give it some more days to see if you/Jenayah/others reopen it. If not, I can send it over.

Hmm, actually, I didn't vote to Leave Open. I guess I saw it outside of the queue.
@Randal'Thor same may apply to this:

Q: Earliest historical example of "heroes NEVER kill" and when did the prohibition become pervasive and accepted?

manofsteelanswers.comToday, it's often taken for granted or as a truism that heroes don't kill (despite plenty of evidence historically and in fiction to the contrary). In fact, it is often taken to the extreme that the heroic ideal ought never kill under any circumstance, situation, exception, or excuse - or otherw...

@Mithrandir Hum, I missed that that had been closed. Already has 3 reopen votes though, and the upvotes also suggest this community likes it better.

Q: Do the Nausicaans have a government?

Ham SandwichFor regular (or somewhat regular) species, the Nausicaans are about the least civilized in the canon. They seem aggressive and always wanting to fight, much like the Jem'Hadar. The two would probably be friends. Is there any indication (in the canon or elsewhere) that Nausicaans have a governmen...

Cause it's just bad.

user132126
Also, superheroes vs super-heroes vs super heroes are all valid spellings.

But only "Super Hero(es)" is trademarked

Q: Quidditch World Cup teams

SeamusthedogGive that Quidditch has a World Cup, what teams are involved? Mainly asking as Scotland hasn't been in a World Cup since the late 90s and wondering if we are as bad at Quidditch as football (hoping with JKs heritage she might have snuck Scotland in?).

7:34 PM
@Jenayah That was ok. I guess I like my metal a little more dramatic.

Q: How Were the LCARS Panels Made in Star Trek?

MissouriSpartanWere the LCARS panels typically pre-designed transparency panels with dark glass and florescent lighting behind them? Or were the "buttons and layouts" added later with computers? I'm talking the TNG days. Voyager and DS9, and some of the later Picard-era films I could see being computer-genera...

Q: Which Star Trek actors admit to not having seen previous series?

Dr SheldonSome actors/actresses in the Star Trek franchise have publicly admitted that they had never seen (or even heard of) any Star Trek shows prior to their involvement in the franchise. Q: book title -- all transactions logged and popularity funds a space mission

Wookie P. NubI have searched, but come up empty -- apologies to just ask for a book title, but hoping someone can help. From what I recall being told, the book's basis is about how all transactions are logged as there are electronic tags on most all things. Transactions, IIRC, can be varied in terms of what ...

Q: Does David Lynch consider his own films to be science fiction / fantasy?

Kyle StrandI have just seen both Eraserhead and Mulholland Drive for the first time. Q: Why ironman suit won't fire then charge like every other weapon that fires continuously?

hyiltizIronman suit blast-beams charge (with a very salient and often audible to the enemies) then fire [1]. So Tony Stark aims at an enemy, charges the beam up (while enemies hears a "charging" sound as a warning to run away or fire back?), then blasts a beam to the enemy. Now compare that to guns. Y...
