Has anyone ever gotten a message in the "ask a question" form that says something like: This question appears to be subjective and is likely to get closed?

Yes.

@Alex: yes, there are some pharses that can cause that if you put them in the title.

Q: Is it just me, or is the "subjective" warning a bit over-active?

Jason BakerLately, I seem to be running into the subjective warning a lot: The question you're asking appears subjective and is likely to be closed. I'm not saying this to complain. I'm just curious if it's just how I'm phrasing my questions or if it's not just me that feels this way. In particular,...

"you", "your", "best", "favorite"

Well the strange thing is that the exact same questions that produced it at one moment did not produce it a minute later.

Q: Should this title edit be rolled back?

LexibleNew user Eyeball asked a question with the not entirely coherent title "I am looking for a book of short stories by Isaac Asimov written by other authors" which prompted these comments (among others): ..."A book of short stories by Isaac Asimov written by other authors" is rather confusing. C...

6:10 PM
@Alex most likely, I can’t remember the specific post but it comes up a lot and it usually comes up in regards to incorrectly closed posts all the time too

@b_jonas I was kidding :p

@Jenayah Sure, that's why it's crossed out and has a smiley.

@TheLethalCarrot I found the post I was referring to and posted it in my next comment.

And it still looks stunning.
We really got the short end.

Q: How can Tagomi travel to the alternate reality in which the Allies won World War II?

NullIn the last episode of season 3 of The Man in the High Castle we are told that individuals can only travel to an alternate reality if This explanation is given for why This explanation does seem to make sense as a way to avoid The explanation also conforms to what we know about almost al...

@Alex ah fair enough, on mobile so only checked the pings

@TheLethalCarrot So I'll have to ping more often.

Only when I’m on mobile of course

@Jenayah I just realized what fooled me. The text of the privilege in the actual privilege list specifies that it's only your own questions. But the text of the privilege on the notice when you earn it just says that you can view close votes, without mentioning that it only applies to your own questions:

@Alex ah!
Go rant on main Meta then ;)

@Jenayah I just might.

Make sure it's no dupe

But first I have to recover my lost honor from appearing to have made a blatant mistake.

@Alex how so? :p

7:48 PM
@Jenayah How so did I lose it or how so will I recover it?

the latter

@Jenayah That's a good question. I don't know. Any suggestions?

What about texting while hoola hooping while riding a unicycle on a tightrope?

@Jenayah How in the world did you think of that?

@Alex pretty sure you threw it right back at me a while ago :p
Bingo!

@Alex whatever your current job is, Alex, if you can do that kind of thing, drop everything and enroll in a circus. Or make your own YouTube channel, I reckon that's the 2010s way to do it.

7:51 PM
@Jenayah Indeed, though I apparently forgot about it.

@Alex well, don't forget :p

@Jenayah I'll try. And a cursory glance at Meta shows that there are several questions about the misleading wording of the privilege, though none of them seem to mention the wording in the specific privilege earned message so I don't think it will be a duplicate.

@Alex alrighty

8:10 PM
Darn, I lost the screen with the privilege notification because I already got the next one.
Though at least I have the screenshot.

join another site :p

@Jenayah I'd have to earn 150 reputation though.

@Alex what are you waiting for, get working.

@Jenayah Actually, I wouldn't have to join a new site. I already have reputation on other sites (but less than 250). In fact, on Mythology I'm halfway there.

@Alex the get working part still holds :p

8:19 PM
@Jenayah True, but I would still have to figure out which site to try it on. Even though I'm the closest on Mythology, the lack of activity there means that it would probably be harder to earn 69 reputation there then 150 on some of the other sites I'm already on.

@Alex edit stuff

@Jenayah On low-traffic sites it can sometimes take days for edits to be approved.

@Alex :o
cocoon effect strikes again

@Jenayah Yeah, I suggested an edit on Islam (I think) and came back the next day and it was still pending.

:o

8:26 PM
But I already posted to Meta anyway:

Q: The notification for the "view close votes" privilege should specify that it's only for your own questions

AlexThe privilege awarded for reaching 250 reputation is called "View Close Votes". As explained at length on the privileges page, this means that you can view and cast votes on your own questions. However, when you receive the notification in your profile page that you have earned the privilege, it...

reading it

@Jenayah I think you already know what it says.

indeed

@Jenayah And I think you just caused this:

@Alex I did

8:32 PM
@Jenayah Well it's corrected now.

And it's thanks to Mon Mothma that I can even vote on the election there.

Could probably add instances from comics I haven't read yet
^doing exactly that, 'cause that Venom answer was only true for the current batch of Symbiotes, it turned out.
there
@Alex it's a children's tale though

@Jenayah True, but Dumbledore's notes usually mention when the magic in the tales does not accord with actual magic. (I only just read it for the first time, hence the super late comment.)

you wouldn't want the donkey to be smashed into Corsican donkey sausage
@Alex aye no worries
enjoy the read

@Jenayah Already finished.

eheh
next is QTTA?

@Jenayah Nah, I read that and Fantastic Beasts when they first came out years ago.

9:18 PM
haven't read either of them :p
oooh another "I am Venom" instance

But Tales of Beedle the Bard is more recent, and I never had it before.
@Jenayah I don't think you're missing much.
Other than my attempted answer to a discrepancy question.

gotta watch the movies too
some time

A: Are there any discrepancies between HP1-HP7 and supplementary books?

AlexThe "very old library book" that Hermione uses in Chamber of Secrets appears to disagree with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them about how the Basilisk kills. Fantastic Beasts states as follows: It has exceptionally venomous fangs but its most dangerous means of attack is the gaze of i...

@Jenayah The Venom movies, the Harry Potter movies, or the Fantastic Beasts movies?

@b_jonas I was talking about Fantastic Beasts
but yeah gotta watch Venom too some day
And I've seen all 8 HP movies

9:22 PM
I've read the two old companion books and Beedle the Bard only a year ago, and in translation only. scifi.stackexchange.com/q/144823/4918

oO this Venom comic is especially NSFW...

@Jenayah You might want to catch up becuse the second movie comes out this year. Although I'm actually considering not to watch that, given what I've heard from the trailers. I haven't decided yet.

@b_jonas I know, I know
I won't see it in theaters anyway

I can postpone that decision after the film comes out and I get info about critical reception and what you Sci Fi guys say about it, plus my brother's opinion, since it's coming out in the winter so if we do watch it we can do it together when he visits for christmas.

Oh nice, you'll get to see your niece :)

9:27 PM
My brother generally has pretty good recommendations for me about what movies in cinema I should watch.
Since he watches much more films than me.
Well, used to, anyway. That might change now that his priority is being a parent.

10:16 PM
@Alex just seen I apparently get the red review dot on movies a lot. I’d imagine it’s cos there’s close or reopen votes I can’t see. Don’t know for sure though

@TheLethalCarrot Interesting theory. The one site that I have review access but not for close/reopen currently has a red dot, though when I open it it shows the red dot for Late Answers.

When I opened it, it didn’t show a red dot on any of them

Q: Harry Potter: Amortentia Potion

SouthsidePyperI know Amortentia is a sort of love potion, but would it be possible for it to smell like a loved one/relative? Or is it just based off of crushes, whether known or unknown by an individual? I’ve read into it, and even seen some posts/headcanons about it, so I was thinking that it would only sme...
