I think a new user posted a question, then registered, then posted an "answer" which really should have been a response to the questions he was asked in the comments under the original question. Actually, it looks like you've already been there, as you deleted one of his posts as not an answer, but then he posted it again an hour later. I think his "thank you" was because people were taking an interest and asking him for more details.
