I haven't forgotten about you @JonEricson, I've been unexpectedly busy all weekend.
I mostly agree with waxeagle; this can be a very hit-or-miss site for both question and answer quality and I think we get a lot of bikeshedding which I believe can discourage good questions and answers

@NiallC. No worries. It will be a few days before I can get back to this anyway. Next couple of days will be busy for me.
@NiallC. Do you know if we have honest-to-goodness experts? Like professional botanists and so on?

As theUg noted, we don't get a lot of votes either up or down and that can tend to depress a site: why take the time to write a post if nobody cares enough to even click on a UI control on a webpage
@JonEricson bamboo's profile says that she's a professional gardener
I think most other people on the front page are stack overflowers who also garden

@NiallC. Or, like me, wishes they gardened. :-/ Hmmm...

@JonEricson I like to think that bringing plants home from the nursery to die is a form of gardening, thank you very much!
Another professional, but hasn't been seen in 1.5 years
Which is another thing that worries me: lots of the top users by rep are no longer active on the site.

@NiallC. That happens. Sometimes they come back. But often not.
@NiallC. Wow. Their top answer is at +12? Seems low.

3:57 AM
@JonEricson True, but it seems that there are more on this site than on others I've looked at

@NiallC. I'll ask and see if we have a metric for that.

As I said, it's a low-voting site.
Or at least we are now. In the early days of the site, votes flowed more freely

4:10 AM
Dahlia "Hulin's Carnival". The coloring of the flowers can vary a lot, but this is the most unusual one I've ever had.

2 hours later…
6:29 AM
@NiallC. Indeed. Whatever Napoleon said about soldier dying for a coloured ribbon.
