@stormy I know I signed something at closing about potential problems with the house...but now I can't find them!

@alexw Your bank as well as your real estate agency HAS to have this information. The laws favor the owners! If your contractor's contract changed his warranty clause to state, "in lieu of Indiana State Law there is a one year warranty...blah blah blah"...The default is the Indiana State Law. In Washington State there is a 12 year warranty. Not many contractors are savvy about the building and code and contractual laws. Even construction lawyers don't know this stuff. It is there, however
Buildings and Code of your city should also have this on file for you and your home.
@alexw I just now read that you have your own well. THAT is very valuable. Have you had the water tested?

@stormy I keep telling you, this is not a new home. Built in 1920 :-P
most of the "renovations" were DIY'ed by some cracked-out owner between 2006-2011
the only things done by a contractor were those big supporting beams, and the new furnace
I'm fairly certain the owner DIY'ed the new roof and siding in 2006
we don't have our own well...must be someone else

you are right about the contractor, though. We've tried to call them and they never call us or email us back. They're supposed to be the best in town!

@stormy I'm starting to think we really got ripped off...both us and the previous owner
