3 hours later…
8:02 AM
@Razetime thanks for the reminder

8:22 AM
@Adám is there a list of all the (public) ibeams anywhere

thanks

RGS
@Razetime If I want to bring something to the table should I just show up? Or do I have to email someone beforehand?
Does anyone know?

@RGS just show up
@Adám iirc you were there at the last one, was there any mention of a plan for this week?

RGS
Cool, I can definitely do that.
I think this week was supposed to be the general meeting, but for some reason it was moved to the next session.
So I'd guess there won't be much of a plan.

8:34 AM
there never is really anyway
so just ask at the start and it should be fine

2 hours later…
10:46 AM
syserror 999: ⎕FR←1287 ⋄ 8415⌶0
actually in a clear ws that doesn't, but on separate lines it does
ok, weird
that syserrors

11:03 AM
I can't reproduce it.

¯\_(⍨)_/¯
doesn't really matter

Sure it does. We should never syserr (unless asked to do so).

ok, I'm on version 18.0.39659
reckon I should email support an aplcore?

If you can, yes. Don't forget to zip it.

RGS
@rak1507 No! Burn it and never speak of this moment again.

11:05 AM
ok, will do later (at school rn)
searching through some ibeams for fun: 20⌶⍬ ws fulls after a while (weird), 183⌶a is 0 if all things in a are alphabetical and ¯1 otherwise, could be useful for golf
tips for golfing in APL: figure out the interpreters secrets :P

Yeah, there have been cases where I could have won a CG if an I-beam had been public.
@rak1507 I don't understand your statement about 183⌶

ohh 183⌶ checks if something is a valid identifier, '0a' is ¯1 but 'a0' is 0

@rak1507 That's a side effect of what it does. ⎕NC is better suited for that, though.

interesting

I just noticed that APLcart doesn't say 183⌶ is unofficial. I'll add that.

11:12 AM
oh, it does seem to do ⎕NC

Exactly, it is unofficial, but APLcart has an illustrative example of its use.

'pieces of function/operator' what does this mean
ooh! the example is really cool

183⌶ was the missing piece to be able to generate a text source for a tacit function.

it's nested as well, that's very cool

11:43 AM
@rak1507 I think "Fast " should be giving the same results?

it doesn't
picks up things like fast fourier transform and other things that are fast, but aren't idioms

@Razetime fast:

aight i changed to idiom for consistency

2 hours later…
1:53 PM
is this a problem with the new update

no? you're just calling ⍸0 and ⍸1, which just give 0⍴⊂⍬ and 1⍴⊂⍬

Try ]display ⍸¨'HELLO' ∘.= 'WORLD'

@Adám that requires understanding the mess of how ]display shows stuff. I think ⎕se.Dyalog.Utils.repObj¨ ⍸¨'HELLO' ∘.= 'WORLD' is a lot more understandable here

@dzaima Are you not using sharper language than necessary when calling how ]display shows stuff a "mess"?

@Adám I use excessive exaggeration like always, so yeah

2:02 PM
> always
;-)

2:13 PM
Ok, first three days learning with "Mastering Dyalog APL". I am utterly fascinated by it.
I am an experienced developer, and I regret not learning APL sooner.
Looking into various git repos that use APL also

@SantiagoNuñez-Corrales Have you looked at the worked-through examples on APL Wiki?

@Adám indeed

Just to confirm, y'all would still like this room advertised on the 2021 Community Ads?

Sure, but strictly speaking, SE ads are prohibited on SE.

lol
it is kinda tempting to VTC the post... ;)

2:29 PM
I say go for it. At least then we might have a chance to get SE's attention.

2:49 PM
i would prefer someone with more knowledge of APL's schedule, event details, which ones are happening (like, if some of last year's aren't happening anymore, some new ones that you'd like advertised show up this year), etc to post community ads for those, so I won't be reposting (unless someone can confirm i can just copy-paste the APL Student Competition and APL Seeds ads verbatim from last year)

3:09 PM
BAA Open session has started.
Passcode: ×/1920 12 17
@rak1507

1 hour later…
4:20 PM
@hyper-neutrino APL Seeds and the competition are yearly events, so I've been relying on updating the ads throughout the year to reflect the current state.

3 hours later…
6:54 PM
@Adám how do I change the aplcore save location

thanks
does it not say where that is in the registry on windows?
doesn't seem to exist...
or does it not exist by default

No it doesn't exist by default. Plenty of settings just use a default value if not set anywhere. I think the default aplcore location is the directory APL is "started in", i.e. the current directory as seen from inside the interpreter: ]cd

3 hours later…
10:08 PM
Hi @AndyAquino interested in APL?
