Some of the regulars here used to have extensive design discussions that included trolling and fast-paced thought dumps. I over-reacted by prohibiting language design discussions, leading to many abandoning the room in favour of Discord/IRC/Matrix.
Anyhow, the result was that the room became much quieter; it basically went from 6000 weekly msgs to 600. On the other hand, I think it is a more pleasant place now.
In the beginning I used to at least glance at all the rooms, but after a while of no content that had my interest, I didn't install Discord on my new (yay!) laptop.
I found this: hakibenita.com/sql-for-data-analysis -- and clearly some people are way better at SQL than I am. But it struck me that a lot of the examples would be a perfect match for APL, too.
@Bubbler There's also github.com/Dyalog/vecdb - I'm gonna have to prod and look at the differences, good timing for these messages though as I'm planning to look into databases and maybe do a webinar this year
@RikedyP I know it's probably not on Dyalog's interest horizon, but I find KDB's slick integration between SQL(ish) and inverted tables a real kick-ass feature.
maybe there'll be some more stuff in the future as people from other platforms join, I've certainly invited a few people from various programming servers who have mentioned an interest in array languages
Yeah I'm wondering how much of this is usually easier after a dyadic transpose For example, the average annual rainfall over the 7 years for each of the 5 countries Would a beginner be more inclined to do multiple reductions?
