@user19318 Hi Joel. Interested in APL too?

Dyalog partitioned-enclose, e.g. 1 0 0 1 0 0 ⊂ 'abcdef' turns into boxed [abc] [def], but Nars2000 and ngn/apl both turn it into a d and that feels like it's just doing part of what replicate would do.
I guess they're both valid different interpretations rather than bugs, but .. why are they different?

Dyalog also has:
⎕←1 0 0 1 0 0⊆'abcdef'

@H.PWiz
┌─┬─┐
│a│d│
└─┴─┘

is that "partitioned nest" ?

See that can be used with a non-boolean left argument (Which is maybe also true for Nars)

@TessellatingHeckler Yeah, that functionality is APL's . I don't know whether NARS or ngn's implementation have the left shoe underbar squiggle

4:11 PM
Nars has left-shoe-underbar but it means "subset" and appears to behave totally differently

@TessellatingHeckler is just "partition" in the docs

ngn
@TessellatingHeckler what dyalog's ⊂ does depends on ⎕ml. with ⎕ml←3 it's the same as the others.

@H.PWiz Oh I see; it's unary left shoe underbar which is Nest ( help.dyalog.com/17.0/Content/Language/Primitive%20Functions/… )
*monadic
@ngn so Dyalog is trying to improve on APL-2 but can be rolled back to be similar to it?

@TessellatingHeckler i'm not sure what the order of events was. iirc, dyalog (or its predecessor dyadic ltd) had already released some versions before the apl2 spec was complete.

@TessellatingHeckler here's the story as told by the implementers themselves: youtube.com/watch?v=WsmS4XBFvH0&t=817
