@jlptn1 Yes, of course.

huh... 「隅の黒一子が次にアタリですが、ここをどう考えるかです」... I'm slightly confused about the かです there at the end
It's a question from a go problems book, it's easy enough to tell what it's asking, I'm just not exactly sure how to parse that

@jkerian ここをどう考えるか is a noun clause (roughly “how to handle this”), and therefore ここをどう考えるかです is the usual [noun]+です. The subject of …です is omitted because it is clear from context; think of, say, 重要なのは as the omitted subject.

I need some help with figuring out what と does in this sentence, "僕らの存在はこんなにも単純だ**と** 笑いに来たんだ". (Full context from gendou.com/amusic/lyrics.php?id=8176&show=1)
It seems ~と笑う means to laugh when saying ~
also, does 僕ら include the entity that is doing the action of 笑いに来る ?

3:48 PM
it's the quoting particle I think
I'm pretty sure it's "最高の現実(リアル)" is what's laughing in あの時 最高の現実(リアル)が 向こうから会いに来たのは 僕らの存在はこんなにも単純だと 笑いに来たんだ
"That time, the greatest reality that came from beyond to meet came to laugh 'our existence is this simplistic'"

so is 最高のリアル part of 僕ら ?
I might sound like I'm asking redundant questions but my brain isn't really working right now.

I don't think so, I think 僕ら is inside the quote

I suppose if it is 向こうから then it should not be part of 僕ら
but if 僕ら is inside the quote, isn't 最高のリアル saying "僕ら" thereby effectively causing itself to be within the scope of 僕ら ?
unless the quoting particle does not work in a direct quote way. It's a paraphrase?
Well, I'm totally drained of brain juice today. I'll try again in another 8 or so hours. Goodnight all. おやすみ~

4:19 PM
"のは" I think here means "the reason that", so I think everything after it is in the quote, i.e. "That time, the reason that the greatest reality came from beyond to meet was to come and laugh 'our existence is this simplistic'"
the translation "Back then, the greatest reality came to us from beyond purely to laugh at the primitivity of our existence" on that page I think might be pretty close

5:05 PM
@TsuyoshiIto Is this somewhat related to the んです construction? The meaning is something like "The question here is: what do you think of here?"

that japanese person speaking japanglish, i'm having trouble describing what he is doing
its real english, but its being segementally recoded to conform to japanese pronunciation
but the prosody really seems to be enlish
the speaker seems to be intoning by the foot and not the mora

@jkerian Your translation is fine, although it is probably better to translate ここ as “this (point)” rather than “here.” I am not sure what you mean by “related to the んです construction.” Well, it is related because both are [noun]+です, but nominalizer ん is not used in ここをどう考えるかです because ここをどう考えるか is a noun clause from the beginning.
