Just found out that Choko had left.

2:52 AM
I appreciated the help she gave me booking an evening with geishas, and also telling me about her grandfather, and making Japanese SE a more positive space.
Her leaving reminds me of Seriouspony (Kathy Sierra) leaving Twitter.

@saidy It's a good question. I think if you post it to the site itself, it'll get more attention than in chat

You could include Xeo's version and ask if that's the right way

2:37 PM
話してみなさい → 話しなさい ? Or is it the other way round?
somehow IME converts はなしなさい into 話なさい -_-

@cirno What is your arrow supposed to mean?

Anonymous
@cirno It probably has 話しなさい as one of the other conversion candidates

Usually it's the noun 話 which is written without the okurigana し

Ohh, I see, you're asking if adding ~てみる in there softens it or strengthens it?

2:50 PM
@snailboat e.g. 話した方がいい → 話しなさい
yes, exactly!
I think it should soften it but I can't find the appropriate grammar anywhere. :(

@snailboat So, was it the right way? :)
Or rather, a right way?

6:18 PM
By the way... what's the best place to start slowly transitioning from English grammar books to Japanese grammar books (so I can finally start "getting" the dictionary definitions properly)? Is there a 'for dummies' version?
