I can never think of a good way to translate 接続 into English when it's being used in the specific grammatical sense of how things connect to things before them.

I mean the noun 接続. You can refer to a verb's 接続 just as you can refer to its 活用.

For example in japanese.stackexchange.com/questions/18766/… I just omitted 接続のしかた because I couldn't think of a good way to translate it, and the sentence made sense without it anyways.

I'm not sure, I thought that was an odd explanation too.

But this guy also generally seems to know what he's talking about, so, well, dunno. :)

@snailboat well, first of all I never heard anyone to say "ごめんください" considering 100% of people around speak Japanese. But this is Tokyo. So I googled around and found out several references to ごめんください as Niigata dialect. – Rilakkuma 46 secs ago edit

This is new for me to know they are in the standard Japanese. There are many uses of ごめん in official language which has little to do with "sorry" but never heard them used in speech.

I did not have chance to learn Japanese academically apart form attending ot Japanese classes for 3 years long time ago, so my Japanese is limited to what is used commonly and definitely it is not very normative, however I use official language quite often and (probably) properly. When some new experience comes I get a load of new words and expressions never heard before because apparently they are only used in that particular case. Such as wedding, for example.

it was very useful experience. Gives a lot of knowledge which I would not learn by myself because boring/too long/did not notice.

I think I've also heard ごめんくださいませ

in this form it sounds somewhat more familiar! However can't remind if heard exactly this and not something different with -いませ

I'm looking for sets of words in Japanese that are kind of synonyms, and are Japanese, Sino-Japanese, and English. Like 宿屋　旅館　ホテル. Can anyone thinking of overwhelmingly good examples?

there are many weird loanwords in Japanese which are used at times, such as アイスティー instead of 冷茶
