@barlop Simchat Torah is the same day as Shemini Atzeret in Israel, and melacha is not allowed on that day. Regarding the following day, which is Simchat Torah outside Israel, contemporary rabbis differ regarding whether people from outside Israel who are in Israel then need to refrain from melacha or not.
