@DoubleAA Maybe there'd be a difference between transitive and intransitive (i.e., שובה would be transitive, "making others be able to experience ישיבה"), or something else like that. I'm sure there are other cases where two or more abstract nouns can be formed from the same root, although I can't think of examples offhand.

@jake the phrase גדול ורם shows up three times in tanach independant of vowels. If you look up those three times, you'll notice two have kamatz under the vav and are about giants and one has a shva and is about God. I agree with @msh210 that it's a coincidence.

Q: Changing someone else's name

In parshas Shlach Moshe changes Yehoshua's name. Does this mean his name really changed? IE was he called up to the torah as Yehoshua? Were his kids "ben Yehoshua"? Are there any other examples in tanach of a person (human) changing someone else's name (not giving them a nickname) permanently?...

My Reform rabbi told me that it is okay to do mitzvot as long as I do not do them because of a sense of obligation. Same goes for believing in ikarei emunah / chovot ha-levavot, that mitzvot observed and machshavot thought must stem from a belief in a "personal choice doctrine." Now, why is that illegitimate according to Orthodoxy?
