heh, I like how mine is the top-scoring answer at judaism.stackexchange.com/q/17014

12:23 AM
@msh210 I do too, hence my upvote.
Should this post be undeleted and closed as a dupe? Dupes can be useful as signposts. judaism.stackexchange.com/questions/17175/…

12:40 AM
@DoubleAA Maybe there'd be a difference between transitive and intransitive (i.e., שובה would be transitive, "making others be able to experience ישיבה"), or something else like that. I'm sure there are other cases where two or more abstract nouns can be formed from the same root, although I can't think of examples offhand.

12:58 AM
@DoubleAA We tend to respect deletions by owner when they're not removing valuable content. I'd probably not call a dupe-signpost that level of valuable

@IsaacMoses I felt very much like you when I wrote this judaism.stackexchange.com/questions/17179/…

Why can't anyone accept me for who I am instead of trying to force me to conform to some irrelevant culture and its language?

@هه что?
Я не понимаю что вы говорите.

@HodofHod why not? I'm speaking in English. The only foreign characters are my name, most of which are foreign on this site anyways. Besides, if you'd like to be called that I'd gladly comply

@هه If you joined this site and started posting questions in russian, greak or mandarin, you would be quickly informed that SE in general, this site not being an exception, operates in English. People are mildly frustrated that you have chosen a username that is not possible for the average English-speaking user to type.
This is not news to you. If you insist on keeping this username, we have already demonstrated that we will not impose a change on you. But you do understand why everyone would prefer you changed it.

@AdamMosheh What is this? judaism.stackexchange.com/a/17190/759

@DoubleAA So I am sourceless. Does that mean I am necessarily wrong?

Come on, you have no sources, you insult the other posters, and it's not even clear what your claim is or why you feel that way!
Have some respect for the site please.
@user1445 Welcome to chat!

@HodofHod True, true.

@vram its too bad vram just left i actually wanted his opinion on something
In any event, seeing how the room is (kinda) populated right now I actually wanted to know if any of you can help me pick a new username. People seem to despise my current one but I can't seem to think of anything else which accurately represents me better than ه ه. So I figured I'd crowdsource. Whatever the users here and now think is best will be my new username. Any suggestions?
@DoubleAA @AdamMosheh @HodofHod @user1445 @vram @MonicaCellio

@هه Well, AA is already taken.

common ideas are name, initials, nickname, random palindrome..

@هه Are you gonna join us for parsha chat on wednesday?

@HodofHod I'm fresh out of ideas. Pick a (specific) name and I shall do as you say.

Q: Idea for weekly topic challenge: Rashi

Adam MoshehI propose questions relating to Rashi (e.g. himself, his commentaries, etc.) as a new idea for a weekly discussion topic on our site.

@AdamMosheh I'm generally unavailable at that time these days.

MarkI want to know what the OU's or any other Orthodox kashrut agency's problem is with Triangle K. @Sathya Oh, the irony!

@Sathya Literally it's "blessed is he who arrives"

@DoubleAA K if we drop the TripleAAA we're down to six names. Know any good random dice-rolling programs/websites?

@jake whatever is agreed upon by the end of this chat will be my new username
@DoubleAA a quick google of the phrase "מפני שהוא שם לווי" (I still don't know what it means BTW) brought me to a Mi.Yodeya page! judaism.stackexchange.com/questions/5824/raw-fish-on-shabbos

@هه @Vram Ironic as it isn't even discussed there.

@DoubleAA I'd think that makes it less ironic...

@هه Hmm... Intriguing.

@هه How about Yaavetz (@jake :) )

The Rooster Prince, also sometimes translated as The Turkey Prince, is a Jewish mashal or parable told by Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, founder of the Breslov form of Hasidic Judaism. It was first told orally, and later published by Nathan of Breslov in Sippurei Ma'asiot, a collection of stories by Rebbe Nachman. It has since appeared in numerous folklore anthologies and works on Hasidic storytelling. Story In this story, a prince goes insane and believes that he is a rooster (or turkey.) He takes off his clothes, sits naked under the table, and pecks at his food on the floor. The king an...

@هه isn't it a reference to the giants in K'naan?

@jake Cool.

@msh210 If you say so

@هه @msh210 It can be both. See devarim 1 28 and tehillim 99 2

@هه Ah. Forgot about that.

so we have rov lehakel

@DoubleAA Definitely rov.

@jake I take it back!

@DoubleAA God is bigger than even two giants, though.

5:51 AM
all the times it is about giants it's gadol VA ram
the God time it's gadol VE ram

@DoubleAA just because of the phrase-break

@DoubleAA Don't think so.

@jake I'm looking at it now. I'm not sure how you will disprove me.

@DoubleAA You can search with vowels?

@DoubleAA What are you talking about?

5:54 AM
@jake the phrase גדול ורם shows up three times in tanach independant of vowels. If you look up those three times, you'll notice two have kamatz under the vav and are about giants and one has a shva and is about God. I agree with @msh210 that it's a coincidence.
@AdamMosheh Nussach Carlebachian

@DoubleAA Oh. I thought it was more than that.

@IsaacMoses Do you think a meta post where we vote for Vram's new name would be in scope? :)
Like we did for the chat room.

@DoubleAA I fervently hope that the matter will be ended here and now, and I'll never hear another word about it on Main, Meta, questions, answers, or comments.

@هه ni l' ni Vram (ni...ni is French for neither...nor, plus this is "Marvin Lin" in reverse. Not that "Marvin Lin" is particularly meaningful, but it sounds like it could be a person's name)

@IsaacMoses Ah, now "BaalShemotTovot" has 4.

Q: Changing someone else's name

user1552In parshas Shlach Moshe changes Yehoshua's name. Does this mean his name really changed? IE was he called up to the torah as Yehoshua? Were his kids "ben Yehoshua"? Are there any other examples in tanach of a person (human) changing someone else's name (not giving them a nickname) permanently?...

in Legitimacy of Reform Movement in Yahadut, 1 min ago, by Adam Mosheh
My Reform rabbi told me that it is okay to do mitzvot as long as I do not do them because of a sense of obligation. Same goes for believing in ikarei emunah / chovot ha-levavot, that mitzvot observed and machshavot thought must stem from a belief in a "personal choice doctrine." Now, why is that illegitimate according to Orthodoxy?

@AdamMosheh I'm guessing it's because they want the newsletter to be about the site not about chat, or an oversight. But by all means post a feature request on Meta that upcoming chat events be included in the newsletter.

What do people think about renaming and thereby generalizing to or ?

@DoubleAA sounds great to me. (Do not retag all the questions. It's easier (for a mod) to merge the tags and that won't bump 'em all.)
@DoubleAA In fact, it seems uncontroversial enough and I'll just do it. (But checking:) Do you disagree with that assessment (that it's uncontroversial)?
Note that it's always undoable. Ah, @ShmuelBrin, welcome back. Want to weigh in on
