Q: Why doesn't Shulchan Aruch include the laws of destroying fruit trees?

Despite clear halachos that apply nowadays and codification in Rambam's Mishneh Torah, Rif, Rosh and Semag, and discussion by a host of other commentaries, as far as I (and the Taz, YD 116:6) can tell, the Tur and Shulchan Aruch do not discuss the laws of destroying trees/Bal Tashchis anywhere. ...

Where in the talmud does it say that if a student does not answer back to a teacher when he shames him , the student will be able to understand hard parts of torah

@Dr.Shmuel 101 revisions - no new badge - so there's new secret badge here - but maybe it was worth it for Dr' Shmuel's upvote ...

@hazoriz אין התורה מתקיימת אלא במי שממית עצמו עליהם, and embarrassing someone is equivalent to killing them? Maybe?

@DonielF I have a feeling I’ve actually seen the quote, though

@Dr.Shmuel But maybe it's a Rishon or Acharon who put those two Gemaras together, rather than it actually being a Gemara itself.

Q: What is a typical Mizrachi Seder like?

DonielFInspired by the comments here, I realized how little I know about what other customs' Sedarim are like. As an Ashkenazi, I'd only ever participated in Ashkenazi Sedarim. As such, I'd like to explore what other traditions do on this night. What is a typical Mizrachi (Middle Eastern) Seder like? W...

Q: For kiddushin, why does Rambam say kesef is "mi'divrei sofrim" but doesn't say that for shtar?

alichtIn Hilchos Ishus 1:2, the Rambam writes: And taking a wife as such is a...

The implication seems like leil shimurim is not a real thing, but the Sages propagated it to suppress the panic that would have accompanied the zugos.

Pretty sure ramchal has a whole bit written about this/Leil shimurim

@Dr.Shmuel exactly what I asked above:

Can someone help explain the reality that the tashbetz is describing here: Is he talking about wrapping one string around another?
He rejects Rashi and Rabbeinu Tam's definitions of Nuz since he points out that there would be no Shaatnez Deoraisa in tzitzis (see there for more details), so he suggests that Nuz means "Patul Beshat Teviyah" - what does that mean based on his explanation there?
