Q: Changes to the Area 51 Process v3.0

Robert CartainoFor anyone who follows this site, you may have noticed that Area 51 has been churning out progressively weaker site proposals and more anemic site launches, about a third of which fail in private beta. There is nothing inherently wrong with most of these subjects; it's just that we've largely ...

first time I've ever been in that situation
(i.e. the situation where I heard the leining two weeks in a row but missed a parasha in between)

@Daniel Enjoy your time in Israel! Consider staying!

@IsaacMoses I'm not the one who needs to be convinced

Hello chevra, I'm new to this whole Mi yodea thing. I enjoy discussing topics of Halacha etc.
Im just bothered by the fact that almost every post I put up gets critisized by someone (mods?).

@RibbisRabbi Welcome!
@RibbisRabbi Everything written here is subject to peer review, with the goal being a permanent internet repository of high-quality Q&A about Judaism for thousands of people to find and benefit from. There are more and less friendly/palatable ways to do that, and getting everyone to stay on the more friendly side is something we're working on.
@RibbisRabbi You can tell (on the main site) if someone's an official moderator by whether there's a ♦ next to their name, but all users have varying degrees of editing and moderation-type privileges.
... For example, I would characterize @mbloch's comments here as perfectly legitimate, polite, constructive criticism. Bear in mind that when you post an answer, the goal is not just to satisfy the person who asked but to have a useful piece of information presented well for anyone who's interested. Sources are an important part of making an answer useful and compelling for posterity.

6:27 PM
Thanx for the pep-talk! :)

@RibbisRabbi You're welcome. I really appreciate the expertise you've brought here.
(As, clearly, do others, as you can see from comments and votes you've received.)

@Isaac Moses - I'm considering changing my profile name to "RibbisRabbi&more" because although my main invilvement is currently in the area of Hilchos ribbis, I would like to take part in answering or discussing other topics / questions on this site too.
How do I go about changing my name?
I tried it on the "edit profile" page, but it didn't get changed.??

@RibbisRabbi Your username doesn't necessarily have to precisely characterize your areas of interest! But if you want to change it, you should be able to. What exactly happened when you tried to change it? Did you get an error message? There's a minimum amount of time the system allows between name changes, so that might be kicking in.
... as a mod, I can manually edit your name even if that time limit is in effect, so if you want me to fix it for you, I can.

@Isaac Moses Please do that. I would like to change it to RibbisRabbi&more.
Thank you.

@RibbisRabbi Ah. Problem: "Display Name can only contain letters, digits, spaces, apostrophes or hyphens and must start with a letter or digit"
Want "RibbisRabbiAndMore"?

6:42 PM
I guess that will do. Thanx

@Isaac Moses Thanx a mil. (I hope the extra thanks isn't Ribbis :) )

@RibbisRabbiAndMore You'd know better than I. :)

@IsaacMoses thanks
@RibbisRabbiAndMore welcome again. Apologies if some of my comments came across as unfriendly. Isaac explained indeed what we are trying to do. I fully understand your feelings and actually wrote about being in your place a while back
takes a bit of time to get used to things but then it is very rewarding
hope you will bear with us
and if you haven't seen the newbie FAQ which I wrote for myself, see judaism.meta.stackexchange.com/a/3887/11501

@Isaac Moses Ya I read it . No, I totaly did not mean to infer in any way that you came accross unfriendly. I actualy fely that you "got me" and your comments were encouraging! Keep up the good work.

7:02 PM
@mbloch I think that's for you ^^
@RibbisRabbiAndMore On a desktop, you can reply to a message in chat by hovering over the right edge of the message to reply to and clicking on the little arrow that appears.
I forget how it looks on the mobile version of chat.

7:23 PM
@IsaacMoses thank you for the tip.
@mbloch I I want to add a link to a comment / answer etc. how do I get it to be in the HERE format rather than having the whole link showing?

7:59 PM
@רבותמחשבות I'm good are you done with the zman?
Do you still have bechinos
?

@RibbisRabbiAndMore In both Q&A and comments (and chat), you can write links like this: [more info on Q&A formatting](https://judaism.stackexchange.com/editing-help) to get this: more info on Q&A formatting. On Q&A, you can also select some text and then click/tap the "hyperlink" button (looks like chain links, third from the left) to add a link to that text.

8:20 PM
@TrustMeI'mARabbi I technically am not finished the zman (almost), but I'm more worried about next zman. I was really planning on getting a lot done, and I'm worried I won't be able to....

8:49 PM
@רבותמחשבות Check out the question I have regarding the Ramban this week

9:41 PM
@RibbisRabbiAndMore See Igros Moshe Y.D. 1:80
