@Scimonster I have heard חוזר בשאלה in English conversation

Creepy search result: Where do you go on the Internet for examples of Purim Torah? Here, of course. PDF of a Cleveland congregation announcements sheet. Not too surprising, given that we're the #2 Google search result for the term, after WP.

@DoubleAA All of the non-calendrical rules about declaring a leap year that Rambam mentions there are reasons why a leap year would not be declared when it otherwise would have. They don't give an opportunity for a leap year to be declared prematurely
And he says that in any case, we never allow Pesach to fall before the equinox
Ah but he does give some other factors that could potentially make the year a leap year prematurely earlier on in the perek

3:26 PM
@IsaacMoses nice! (About being #2.) Verified in an incognito window.

@Daniel If there is an opportunity to choose to not declare a leap year and have it still be after the equinox, then had that opportunity not arisen the leap year would have been in effect prematurely. I agree the earlier examples about weather are more direct. Shmitta's is just the simplest to remember and explain IMO. I also referenced 4:3 about the barley for the Omer

@MonicaCellio This is actually relevant, in a serious sense, to site-promotion. We have a known comparative advantage over the rest of the anglophone Internet in this niche topic, so I would expect that it gets us a decent amount of search traffic. We should therefore take an extra look at the landing page and at how we present PTIJ questions, and see if we're doing the best we can to get them to guide search-clickers to look at our real content and consider participating.

@IsaacMoses oh good point; we have a good, clear meta post (recently updated), but we should take a look at the tag page too.

@IsaacMoses That's one potential argument for allowing real tags on PTIJ questions
(not that I'm necessarily advocating for that)

This is a matter of practice not policy, but if high-quality PT questions or answers naturally link to other serious posts on this site, that seems like a win. I remember doing a tiny bit of that last year, thinking that it might have a very minor promotional aspect. Don't force it, of course -- but if you can build a question off of something else or cite another (good) answer, consider doing so.

4:12 PM
@MonicaCellio I gave it a shot. I'm not totally satisified with the result.

@IsaacMoses that's definitely an improvement. Thanks.

@MonicaCellio FTR, I edited the actual tag wiki, too, but I'm having trouble finding a link to the edit history. I added the line at the bottom and what's below it.

4:32 PM
@IsaacMoses The history link is right under the edit button

@Daniel Oh. Thanks. Failure to read on my part.

5:00 PM
@IsaacMoses Is there any way to switch the default from newest to frequent or top votes?

@Scimonster You mean for us to set for random other users? I doubt it.

@IsaacMoses Yeah, that.
@Daniel I am. I'll post on meta with reasons soon.

@IsaacMoses Is our Word wrangler around sometime in the next couple weeks to see if you can get the Purim booklet single-page version (at least) to work with A4?
On the other hand, i actually found some letter size lying around so i might just use that.
And how about that Haggadah update we said we were going to do?

@Scimonster Can you remind me / point me to prior discussion about how it comes out wrong on A4?

Mar 5 '15 at 9:36, by Scimonster
I can't seem to print the Purim publication on A4 paper. It keeps cutting off the left edge.

@Scimonster When would you need it by to be able to use it for your MMs?

@IsaacMoses Ta'anit Ester.
Or Purim morning in a pinch. :)

@Scimonster Just-in-time publishing! The best. Alright; I'll see what I can do.

7:45 PM
I personally actually just discovered some letter-size paper sitting by the printer (where did that come from?) but i'm sure an A4 compatible version will help other people.

FYI, Here's my unofficial Mishloach Manot insert based on MY PTIJ, from last year: chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/468?m=20309876#20309876

Q: What questions should we add to Hagada - Mi Yodeya?

ScimonsterIf we're going to be updating Hagada - Mi Yodeya?, it's probably time we get started. Pesach is less than 2 weeks away! (:O) So, what questions should we add? The current version (direct link) is missing questions on the following sections: Karpas Yachatz Maror Shulchan Oreich Possibly Tzafun...

 Updated Hagada

Discussion about updating the Mi Yodeya Hagada for a second ed...
Pesach is now just under two months away, so how 'bout we get started on this? Third anniversary updated edition. Some suggestions in the meta post; many more in the chatroom (that should be unfrozen if we're getting back to it).

8:52 PM
@Scimonster Or, as my father used to say, seven days to Pesach! (When I was growing up, the only time he really had available for ridding the house of chametz was on Sundays.)
Anyone (@MonicaCellio perhaps) know what's up with this?:
@OldBunny2800, I just saw one of these '15 ones, so I guess they're still live. That said, the '16 ones are live also (according to meta.judaism.stackexchange.com/ads/display/3850), so I don't know what's going on.... — msh210 ♦ yesterday
Is it a shouldiblamecaching.com issue?

@msh210 I noticed some from '15 too, but the stats report views on the new ones. I guess there's overlap? I wouldn't be surprised if the '15 ones stop being served tomorrow; at some point somebody on the team said "February" for the cut-over, but I don't know what level of precision was intended.
That reminds me -- is anybody making a new version of this ad (the one for the referencer)?
@Scimonster I unfroze the room. No reason people can't use it to discuss/propose questions even if the community ultimately doesn't do the update this year.
@Scimonster thanks for bringing it up two months in advance instead of two weeks in advance. That's more practical. :-)

9:08 PM
@MonicaCellio Sorry. I made the original, but doubt I'll have time to make a tolerably good replacement any time soon. I posted an intolerably good one here in Bam some time ago IIRC.

@msh210 thanks; I hadn't chased back through past ads to see where it came from originally.

@MonicaCellio It crossed my mind when i mentioned the Purim book, which crossed my mind when (did i mention?) i found some letter paper next to the printer.

@Scimonster we must find some way to thank whoever left that paper near your printer.

@Scimonster, out of curiosity, have you come across any letter-size paper recently?

9:27 PM
@MonicaCellio My father says you're welcome. Or actually, he said i told a long story with a not so interesting point, but i decided to polite-ify that.

@Scimonster polite-ifying is part of kibud av.
