Wikipedia on diction (paragraph1):

A secondary, common meaning of "diction" means the distinctiveness of speech, the art of speaking so that each word is clearly heard and understood to its fullest complexity and extremity, and concerns pronunciation and tone, rather than word choice and style. This secondary sense is more precisely and commonly expressed with the term enunciation, or with its synonym articulation.

In my own experience, it's used much more often with the second meaning ('enunciation') than with the first ('word choice'). Which would mean that using it as the tagname for 'word choice' is poor word choice. But maybe my experience is atypical.

@Daniel re your comment: IMO clarifying in the question that the water will be drunk in one place would allow this to be reopened. (That's not the usual case for someone who drinks water all day: sedentary people tend to drink other things. :-)) IMO ideally, also edit into this question something about the question you're not asking, where it is on site, and how this one's different. — msh210 ♦ 15 secs ago

@DoubleAA Without getting into careful parsing of my chat message here, I believe that this duping is consistent with my position there.

@DoubleAA Technically, the community isn't able to dupe to a question that's not answered. That question is answered, so duping to it is technically fine. Now that it has a link to a complete online list, it's really answered, and so duping to it is also, as I suggested, fair. (I'm admittedly kvetching a little bit because I agree with @msh210 that avoiding the potential for ~500 similar questions is a good outcome.)

@MonicaCellio, could you please give each of the three feeds in here a different bot-user? I'm pretty sure that at least one of them, and maybe all, will catch each MY entry on the HNQ, and I want to see which gets them first. I don't think I have the ability to create bots.

@IsaacMoses you're welcome. Mystery: I created them in order down the page, but the users were assigned out of numeric order. Weird.

One finds "judaism" entries in the top 50 HNQ page, one finds them in the bottom 10 page, and one finds them in the top 30 RSS feed. I don't know which of these a given HNQ entry will show up on first, or if that's invariant.)

@IsaacMoses interesting. Since 100 questions are hot at any given time, is there no way to get all 100 (perhaps in two batches of 50 like on the on-site page)?

@MonicaCellio The way the URLs are structured, from what I can tell, you can either get pagesize=50, defaulting to first page, which gives you the top 50, or page=#, defaulting to 30 per page, which gives you 1-30, 31-60, 61-90, or 91-100. AFAICT, you can't specify pagesize and page number in the same URL, but you can specify them one after the other in the same browser session, which doesn't help me. ...

... I tried using FiveFilters' merge feature to merge page-based feeds for pages 1, 2, 3, and 4, which seemed to work, but the resulting URL was way too long for the chat bot to accept it.

... so it'd take 3 feeds to cover all of the HNQ simultaneously and 4 to do it with no overlaps.

I'm hoping that at least one of the three feeds in test now reliably picks up our entries sufficiently quickly by itself.

Sounds like this turned out to be a bigger project than you expected. But it'll be nice to have in here once it's ready.

@IsaacMoses I wouldn't make that complexity trade-off either. If it takes multiple feeds, meh, it takes multiple feeds. There shouldn't be more than a few questions a day anyway.

@MonicaCellio I'm picturing something like the glossary with various common terms. An example entry would look something like "Feivel (פײַוול)- A Yiddish calque for Shraga" or "Leib (לייב)- Yiddish for lion, from German löwe, calque for Yehudah or Aryeh"

@NoachmiFrankfurt how do you see it being used? The glossary, for example, provides definitions that can be linked from posts on main. (I'm not objecting; I'm just trying to understand the goal.)

@MonicaCellio I figure it would be a useful resource, one which I am more than willing to start, due to the preponderance of references to individuals with particularly odd names (and the utility for those looking to find Yiddish names, for whatever purpose)
