The following questions are about darche limud, systems of Torah study. I think people will be interested in all of them (or several of them) collectively, but they're not so easy to find with existing tags (and indeed I don't know whether this list is complete). So I think they should have their own tag. I seek ideas for the tag name (and/or arguments for/against having such a tag altogether) and excerpt and wiki.

@msh210 Suggestions (any or all could be synonyms): torah-study-methods, torah-study-style, derech-halimud, darchei-limud. Should have explicit cross-reference to and disambiguating guidance from torah-study and adult-learning.

adult-learning needs definition, too, while we're at it.

I just used the tag derabanan on a question and I realized that I think its usage is unclear

The tag wiki says "Questions connected to laws that were instituted by the Rabbis (not Biblical)."

which applies to my question

but the top few answers seem to be asking not about specific rabbinic laws but rather about the concept of rabbinic laws itself

Which seems to me like a more useful way of using that tag

Any thoughts?

@Daniel I agree that using it for the questions that address the status of derabanan and not just anything that has that status is a better way to use the tag.

Anyone with at least 2500 rep points, let's clean up the suggested tag synonyms list!

@IsaacMoses I believe we must have a certain amount of rep (or maybe a certain score) in a particular tag in order to attach synonyms to it

Procedure: 1) Visit the list. 2) Click on a "master" tag on the list. 3) Scroll down to the "Suggested synonyms". 3) Upvote or downvote each suggested synonym.

Each suggestion that reaches +4 or -2 net score will be resolved (adoption or rejection, respectively).

@Daniel I don't think that applies to voting. I am able to vote on all of the ones on the list now, and I'm sure that I don't have distinguished performance in all of them.

I wish there was a way to convey Purim Torah on Mi Yodeya that doesn't neatly fit the QA model

@Daniel There are those who have expressed the same about real divrei Torah. You can write it somewhere else and share it with some of the community here via chat.

@Daniel @IsaacMoses I would have expected it to mean that -- about the concept and processes, but not about any halachot that are derabanan -- that's just not a useful bucket on its own, I don't think.

BTW, should we make a parallel Yodeyan FaceBook group, to do more or less what Bam does, but appealing to a wider audience?

@MonicaCellio Two or so, if you mean by Purim. It's a leap year. Tempting, I'd be apprehensive about determining a blog's editorial standards for the first time in the context of P"T.

Speaking of which, I think the next step after this would be for someone to draft a rewritten PT policy that takes the ideas in that answer into account. IMO, there should be an emphasis in that drafting on concision and formatting for inviting readability. The more fine print, the less it will be read and implemented.

@IsaacMoses oh right, I was counting to the beginning of PTIJ season but that's not the marker here. Though spreading out PT over a week or so rather than posting it all in a day or two would be good, if posting on this hypothetical blog.

Also, it wasn't an entirely serious timing suggestion. :-)

(I would want the blog to lead with other material, too.)

I don't think that question is particularly good (though it got a good answer), but the community seems to have disagreed with me

@Daniel it would, yeah. Fortunately we're not talking about taking away existing questions, just setting the bar differently for new ones.

So, the math question could have opened, under the new standard, with "I've noticed that some Jewish schools don't teach math." and continued as it is now, and not been closed.

... or by quoting any of the canonical sources for learning all the time.

Good point; we aren't requiring a ton of support, but we want something.
