@El'endiaStarman BTW as far as I know, when the observation-based calendar was discontinued in favor of a fixed calendar is debated

...the reason I asked this question was to see if I could find out more info on why the Rambam holds astrology, from a logical perspective, doesn't make sense. However, as cited in the JHCS article, the Rambam doesn't really explain....
...is asking about which "Greek and Persian philosophers" he refers to, and what they wrote about astrology, on-topic here? On the one hand, it's a question about something the Rambam wrote. On the other hand, it's not exactly about Judaism
...on the third hand, perhaps I'd get a better answer from the Philosophy site (which, to date, I've never used)
Any input on the above?

@Shokhet if you're asking, per se, about the Rambam's influences for stuff he wrote about Judaism, then your question is about Judaism.
