Q: Significance of Dead Sea

rayAre there any sources from chazal explaining the significance of the Dead Sea in Israel. (what is it doing here and why) The Dead Sea is a very unusual phenomena worldwide. it also happens to be the lowest point on earth.

Interesting, unrelated story that happened to me today. I got a nice set of the Torat Chaim chumash for my Bar Mitzvah, but i've been missing Bamidbar since this time last year. Today i noticed an anomaly in shul. Amidst all the other chumashim, there was one that looked like my missing sefer.
The shul doesn't have that set (they have the one that looks like this though). Unfortunately, i never put my name in mine so i couldn't tell if it was mine. Luckily for me, i had gone through a phase where i marked down songs in my siddur and chumash, where the lyrics were from.
This week's parsha [Shlach] contained the song Slach Na by Regesh, which i had written down. (I wrote it as MBD, but no matter.) I was able to make a positive identification from that, and now i have my chumash back. :)
^ it was so hard to track down that song
And on the subject of silver badges, you can congratulate me on being the first to 3 Reviewer badges.
