@havarka I saw that; thanks!

mamesh bekitzur :P

@havarka :)
@IsaacMoses Also, older users have had more yomim tovim; the only ones I've had to deal with has been RH YK and Succos -- you've had Pesach and Shavuos every year etc.

12:59 AM
@Shokhet thx for edit

3 hours later…
3:45 AM
@havarka No problem
@IsaacMoses et al: this question has close votes for being "off-topic -- Hebrew" again. Is there any way to edit that question so that its on-topicness is clearer?

4:07 AM
@Shokhet It's about bible study. Every other word in the question is some conjugation of "bible." But, some of the remaining words are "Hebrew," so people who glaze over the non-bullteted portions of this and haven't yet seen this diagram are going to VtC.

@IsaacMoses I hadn't yet seen that diagram :P

@Shokhet There's also a truth table, above, and a magazine quiz, below.

user55340
@Shokhet so... lets see about that answer that I'm curious about.

@MichaelT Aright.

@Shokhet What'd I miss?

@YeZ Someone is complaining that one of your answers is unclear :P

user55340
4:18 AM
Just some curiosity on mine about license fulfillment of digital download software from a camera company that follows orthodox practices.

Shoot; I just got a phone call; @YeZ, can you help @MichaelT?

user55340
Note that I'm not Jewish and so... I might be missing some context around parts of the answer. I do have more than no experience (I know of the 39 melecot (even if my spelling checker refuses to recognize that misspelling and wants it to be something completely different))

YeZ
@Shokhet I can try, but I seem to be missing some context of the discussion.

@YeZ there's not too much... its in 3 comments on my question.

@Shokhet I suspect that Can an automated online service business operate on shabbat? and Selling on Amazon.com or Half.com on Shabbos or Yom Tov would be most appropriate, though unanswered. Processing an online payment - which will be processed on Shabbos has a... disappointing answer. Can an ecommerce website remain open on Shabbat? might have an answer there, though I'm not sure how to interpret it. — MichaelT 14 mins ago

user55340
I just flagged the "Processing an online payment" answer as NAA -- I hadn't seen it yet. If there are pieces of answers of the last question that don't make sense to you, would you like to come to chat? — Shokhet 8 mins ago

YeZ
@MichaelT OK so what can I explain?

user55340
So... B&H (camera store) has digital download of other software. The license fulfillment for it isn't active from Friday night to Saturday night. I believe that to be an automatic processes (that they don't have someone pushing a button at 3am other nights).

user55340
I'm just curious what the restriction that is based on.

YeZ
(I'm editing something while we talk, so I may not be the quickest responder)
@MichaelT To make sure I am following, what is a license fulfillment?

user55340
4:25 AM
Either download the paid version from B&H (digital download), or enter credit card number in demo version of application and have it become non-demo version.

There's also asciiflow.com - though in this case, it tries to be too smart.

(if you're after something more graphical: draw.io )

@MichaelT Thanks. I think I've done all I am inclined to on this particular project. :)
@YeZ ^^^ 8P

user55340

YeZ
@MichaelT So if it is a transaction, it would be a subject of dispute if it is OK to happen automatically on Shabbos. According to the Ezer Lashovsim that I quoted, it would be prohibited.

user55340
4:36 AM
> The prohibition is to be party to a sale on Shabbos, and this is exactly what Chazal were decreeing, that there should not be objects changing ownership on Shabbos through commerce ... the prohibition is the reality of the transaction and not the act.

user55340
However, for a digital download, there is no object changing ownership.

user55340
@IsaacMoses With the image above, is there other bits you want in it?

@MichaelT It does the job as-is, but it's moved away from being a Venn diagram.

user55340
(side bit, thats a png with embedded xml in it - if you save it locally and go draw.io, it is possible to open it back up as a drawing)

@MichaelT (I hope you're not taking this design task too seriously.)

user55340
4:39 AM
@IsaacMoses Its an interesting problem.

@MichaelT Cool. Is that a standard way of storing a hybrid image/drawing?

user55340
@IsaacMoses Not sure how standard... but its something that can be done and draw.io makes use of it.

@Scimonster throw in some cross-hatching or a couple of mixable colors, and it's all the way there, from an information point of view
@MichaelT clever

YeZ
@MichaelT the Chelkas Yaakov would still probably apply.
@Scimonster You did it!

@Meta-Man I thought you take 10 minutes to post.

@Shokhet ha! But you guys forgot the specification review:
in Workplace 2014 Election, Mar 30 '14 at 4:16, by Monica Cellio
@MichaelT freehand lines are not precisely lines, but you said "draw", not "draft". You also didn't say perpendicular to what, or that the green or transparent lines had to be wholly so, or that you required the entire kitten. So, to answer your actual question, "yes" (with those clarifications). Cheers.
And yes, I have been like Jason Fox in this strip for as long as I can remember. (And I failed to find, or figure out how to extract, that image so I could onebox it directly. Oh well.)

@MonicaCellio Your cat looks more like a mouse to me.

@Scimonster there's a limit to what I can do when drawing with a mouse. And I didn't feel like drawing (with an actual pen) and then scanning something better.

Matt Sherman on January 08, 2015

We – which is to say, you, the Stack Exchange community – had another great year in 2014.

We cracked Quantcast’s top 50 networks in the US. We did this without posting celebrity gossip, top 10 lists, or cat pictures. We did it by creating artifacts: useful, canonical bits of information, edited, refined, and curated by our community.

By donating your knowledge to the largest community of developers in the world, you’ve been able to create a slice of the Internet that is indeed a better place. Amidst the noise, clutter, and chaos of the web, you’ve built one of the largest, most trusted knowledge repositories ever created. …

@Shokhet yeah, thanks -- I do try to skim the transcript and presumably would have noticed my drawing in it, but I appreciate the ping.

Q: Reviving the Jewish-Date series

YishaiThe tag jewish-date-series has some serious scope issues, as it is about history of Jews as much as about Judaism. I am considering reviving it in the form of "This date is significant in Judaism because ..." Of course, that would invalidate some answers or parts of answers in the current serie...

6:24 PM
@IsaacMoses Can you suggest a tag wiki and excerpt for ?

@DoubleAA I can. Beli neder, I will, sooner or later.

So. Close. It feels wrong to roll it over by accepting an answer just at the moment. :-)
and changed:
Woot. Thank you, whoever provided that little nudge.
I realize that as a moderator I don't "need" to reach 20k for the privileges, but it still feels like a major milestone for me, and I'm delighted that I reached it here (a) at all and (b) first among my SE sites.

I hate when I am in the middle of typing up a well-written, quality answer, and someone else posts a sloppy same-type-of-idea answer while I am spending time writing a quality answer.

@Scimonster @Shokhet thank you!
@Shokhet yashar koach!
@YeZ post yours anyway. Well-written, quality answer is worth it!
Besides, when the timestamps are similar nobody's going to complain that you poached or something; it's obvious you were both working on it at the same time.
@havarka oh, sorry. When I posted the link to my profile I expected it to show my name and the actual rep number; I'd forgotten that it would collapse that down to 20k. With rounding, my 19,999 would also have come through as 20k.
Or were you asking why 20k is special? It's the last of the rep-based privilege levels (which doesn't matter for mods but still) -- so I'm a "trusted user" by rep now and not just by diamond. And it makes me feel good.

YeZ
@MonicaCellio I can finally trust you!
4
@MonicaCellio I already erased it - in the future, maybe I will.
As an aside, I didn't even upvote his answer because he did a poor job of presenting the idea.

8:53 PM
@YeZ then there is clearly room for a better answer. People can't squat on ideas; just because somebody, e.g., cited a Rambam doesn't mean you can't build out a better Rambam-based answer. If you're actually building on another answer it's good to acknowledge that, but don't assume monopolies where they're not present.
So both the US government AND stackexchange consider you reliable :) — Shmuel Brin Feb 26 '13 at 23:43
