@MonicaCellio I might do that at some point. Will flag if I do.
@MonicaCellio Re: "Ping @Shokhet (nobody else there has been here)." .....can't moderators ping anyone to chat?
@MonicaCellio Is there any way to copy things as if someone else said them in chat, or would it just be a comment from me, quoting the other guy?

@Shokhet we can, but I don't recall ever seeing the others in chat (might be misremembering), and I've had bad luck with getting people to come in for the first time via such pings. Didn't seem important enough to bug them given that I could bug you. :-)

@MonicaCellio Fair enough :)

@Shokhet unfortunately no. The least-bad way to do it is to just paste the comment URLs one at a time (don't actually cut/paste the messages; that's the hard way).

@MonicaCellio Yeah, I figured that would probably be the better way to do it; thanks for the advice :)

HI all!

2:03 AM
@Arrowfar Hello Arrowfar!

@Arrowfar hello! Shavua tov!

user116848
Thanks!

user116848
:)

user116848
Can I ask a general question here?

user116848
It's about relations with people in general. I mean treatment by other people that a person gets

2:08 AM
Feel free!

user116848
I see

user116848
okay...

user116848
@MonicaCellio So, I have a friend who was treated my some (very pretty) lady in a crappy way at workplace. So now he is very depressed because he feels worthless now. (A little bit about him: He has failed some papers that we have been studying, like many times also he is not particularly rich, I mean he is a poor type guy.)

user116848
What what can one do in this situation

@Arrowfar so this is somebody who is or was a friend of his, and he feels she treated him badly, and it happened at work so there are additional complications?

user116848
2:13 AM
I am a male 27 years btw and he is the same age as me. I thought I'd ask somewhere. Yahoo answers does not give good responses :)

user116848
No, this guy is my friend

Just FYI, I'm a woman and old enough to be your mother, so I might not have the best perspective here. :-)

user116848
I see. Let me give you the right question

Right, you're asking about your friend. You mentioned that a woman treated him badly. Are he and the woman friends? Just coworkers?

user116848
She is a co-worker. Yes.

user116848
2:17 AM
But this is a very usual thing for him. He is not some loser type. A good person but gets in crappy situations with 'perfect women (stereotypical)' mostly.

It sounds like he was trying to pursue a relationship with her? That's usually not a good idea with coworkers, as the reprecussions are worse than normal if things don't work out.

user116848
You are right. He likes her. Definitely. But he doesn't talk to her or make any advances. He is a sober sort, as far as I can tell.

user116848
@MonicaCellio So, can you give me any advice that I can give him. Because this sort of behaviour by the opposite sex makes him feel crappy about himself. So, how should he confront this type of situations? I want him to get his on his feet and be a confident man again.

@Arrowfar you said that he doesn't make advances, and also that she did something that made him feel bad. That something was some work issue then? Sorry, trying to understand the situation a little better.

user116848
Although he is self sufficient. He can take care of himself perfectly, in a financial terms. It's just a workplace type scenario :)

user116848
2:24 AM
Sorry I brought it up here in chat :D

Sorry, I'm not trying to brush you off; I'm just having trouble giving useful advice. :-(

user116848
Yes, totally understandable :-)

user116848
@MonicaCellio So what happened was she shouted at him in front of everyone present for just not getting the right documents for some file. So, what makes him feel low now is that he thinks and knows that that sort of behavior by that woman is not shown to any senior guys at the workplace.

user116848
This is the jest of my question that what can he do now?

user116848
I told him to just focus on his career and ignore everything else. It seemed the only best advice that I could give :)

user116848
2:38 AM
What do you think?

user116848
Ping me! when you feel like answering

@Arrowfar ah. Shouting in front of people is bad form, whether he made a mistake or didn't. So there are two problems: the mistake (or perceived mistake), and the way she handled it. Were I he I would first correct any errors that I did make with that document, and then privately talk with her about the way she did that -- he understands he made a mistake, but the public aspect made it worse and would she be willing to talk with him privately if this happens again?
Wait, I'll bet this question has been asked on The Workplace, actually -- let me take a look.

user116848
No, i don't think she'll talk to him because she is also one of those uptight types. She is one of those angry but pretty types, you know.

user116848
So, any solutions to this bias at the workplace by these sorts?

user116848
It gets very annoying to work in a place like that.

Thanks so much for your time! :D

I'll look at these questions....

user116848
Thanks!

You're welcome! Good luck to your friend.

@MonicaCellio Just curious what the "certain circumstances" are.....if it's a secret mod rule that mortal users may not know about, I'll take that as an answer.

@Shokhet currently we only get the "move these comments to chat?" option when the system raises an automatic flag to tell us about a post that's getting lots of comments. I don't know if the number/velocity for this are public. Basically, "move to chat" is one of the possible resolutions of that flag, but we don't yet have a direct "move comments on this post to chat" command. It's been requested, I know (somewhere on MSE).
I suspect that SE wants to see if the current interface results in a proliferation of chat rooms for things that ought've just been deleted before they give us more powers, but that's just my speculation.

@MonicaCellio All right, thanks.

3:26 AM
@MonicaCellio No writeup yet, but since you asked, here's a pic:

@IsaacMoses oh very nice! So you went with plywood cut lengthwise and hinged to make 2x8 folding pieces, it looks like?
Also, how do you like those "icicle" lights? I need to replace some lights for mine and it looks like those give better light than regular strands. (I was going to go with rope lights; didn't think of these.)

@MonicaCellio No, I simplified at the cost of having to lug around 50 lb. sections. Each one is 4'x8'
Thanks!

@IsaacMoses ah, so those black things on the back wall aren't hinges then?
(I see now that they aren't so close together on the long side that's visible.)

@MonicaCellio I like them fine. This 8'X20' Sukka is sufficiently-lit with five of them, each with 100 LEDs and burning 8 W. I got them for $15 each at Costco (best deal I've found)

@IsaacMoses thanks for the info (and Costco tip; I don't have a membership and was just going to go to Target, but if the price difference is high enough I'll see if a friend can get them at Costco for me.)

3:32 AM
@MonicaCellio Knots, I guess? The only hinges are the ones holding the doors on
@MonicaCellio I also saw strings of 50 LEDs for $10 at Ace Hardware and would have gotten those if I hadn't seen these are Costco

@IsaacMoses I guess. They just looked so consistently placed that I assumed it was something you did. :-)

@MonicaCellio "I think that I shall never see / A poem as lovely as a tree"

@IsaacMoses :-)

The fan shown is this one‌. It's rated for outdoor use and puts out quite a stiff breeze at its highest setting. I'm hoping it'll keep the bugs out.

We have a question about bugs. If this does the trick you should add this info in an answer.

3:52 AM
@MonicaCellio We've got two:
9
Q: What is the best way to keep bugs out of the sukkah?

please remove my accountWhat is the best way to keep bugs, specifically mosquitoes, out of a sukkah on yom tov? I've looked into various candles, tiki torches etc, but they won't last through both days of yom tov.

Q: How to keep Bees out of the Sukkah?

yydlMany years (but not all), we have had bee problems in the Sukkah. This is probably caused by the fact that we continue to use honey for dipping the Challah throughout Sukkos. What are some practical solutions for keeping them out? I would prefer to hear solutions that don't involve trapping/kill...

If this works, I'll augment this answer whose source I can't recall

@IsaacMoses sounds like a good plan.

MY/SE addiction? I just tried to upvote a question in the gemara i'm learning. :)

More like wanted than tried to, actually.

What do people think of creating an tag? I can think of several questions under and that could fall under that.
(I'd like to do the initial tag myself, just to have a shot at the taxonomist badge)

@Scimonster Cute :)
@Scimonster I think it could definitely work.

@Shokhet Great. I'd just like at least one more opinion before starting.

@Scimonster Up to you.
Tag wiki would have to make it clear that it's a very well-defined, once-a-year thing, make sure people don't confuse Judaism with s/t like Opus Dei
(Rabbi Becher tells a story that he put tefillin on while in an airplane, right after the Da Vinci Code came out.....someone asked him if he was Opus Dei :P)

@Shokhet One thing i've learned using the internet is that it's always good to have at least two opinions. I mean, just look at the SE review system. Pretty much all of them require at least two people to review.

@Scimonster Makes sense
@Scimonster Unless the reviewer is a moderator or the OP.

@Shokhet That also makes sense. Mods generally get extra powers to allow them to deal with problems better. And the OP (in suggested edits) also gets final decision, as it is their post. BTW, when close/reopen voting, the OP doesn't get a binding vote. Gold badges do though.

4:23 PM
@Scimonster Right.....gold badges I only found out about recently

@Shokhet It's only been around for ~a month

Also, it doesn't make sense for OP to get a binding vote in reopening -- of course they think their question is good, they posted it!
@Scimonster Really? I guess I'll take that as my excuse then ;)

@Shokhet Oh, no, it's actually been there for 5 months. Your excuse can be that we hardly have a need for it on MY. ;)

Q: When did I get close-vote superpowers?

John CondeI just marked this question as a duplicate all by myself. I am not a moderator and I don't think this should be possible. Did I miss something?

@Scimonster Hm....I actually noticed it on Meta.....any way to see if it's ever been used on MY?

@Shokhet No idea...
TZT, be back later.

4:33 PM
@Scimonster Aight TZT

4:48 PM
@Shokhet No one on meta.my has a gold tag badge in anything. On main there are three but I have binding votes already. Overall this feature isn't used that much here, yet.

@DoubleAA Perhaps @Shokhet meant Meta Stack Exchange?

@Scimonster Perhaps
I should make a special shout out to @alex who has the 1000 votes in for the badge, but is missing the requirement of having 200 answers. YasheKoach Alex for such high quality answers!

@Scimonster @DoubleAA I meant Meta Stack Exchange, that is correct.
@DoubleAA It's a pretty exacting requirement for a badge......

@Shokhet Aren't many? Especially gold badges.

@Scimonster Also true.
Still pretty hard to get

5:08 PM
@Shokhet That's kind of the point.

@Scimonster * eyeroll *
