The faq link in the bottom right part of the page has some tips for formatting. It's (a subset of) markdown rather than HTML, which tripped me up when I was new too.
@BrianTkatch the two of you seem to be talking past each other, but I'm not sure what to do. If you were both in chat together that might help. Here's what I understand from the exchange:
You are saying that din is the ideal so HKBH started with that, but since that can't hold by itself he then added rachamim. User613 seems to be saying wait, since HKBH knows all, he therefore knew that din wasn't enough, so why not just start with rachamim (starting with din is a mistake). I think you're saying that both din and rachamim are necessary and user613 might disagree with that?
@BrianTkatch yes. On your profile page there's an "edit" link, and one of the fields you can edit is your name. Make sure you click "save" and not "save and apply to all sites" (wording on latter isn't exact; it's from memory).
@MonicaCellio the point i want to make is that there is no "first" and "second". Rashi is simply explaining that ideal. Being the ideal is not practical, He therefore added rachamim. I want to explain that "ideal" does not mean "first". It is an ideal, nothing more nor less. But if you don't see that either, i guess i haven't explained it well. :( (or, i'm just plain wrong)
@MonicaCellio I changed my "real name" and it shows up under private info. I want to show it on the pages that way too.
@MonicaCellio forgot that last one. There is also "display name" I gues i got mixed up.
@BrianTkatch yeah, it's the display name you want; sorry for being unclear.
@BrianTkatch ok, you could probably make that a little clearer but I didn't totally miss it. That is, I know that God didn't start get 1:1, create, and later decide to do something different; there was a plan. The sequence is the sequence of telling, not an absolute sequence. (Don't know if that's clear, sorry.)
So, please advise. Should i add another comment, trying to explain it once more? (Or even post here first, if you would think it might be better reviewed first).
@BrianTkatch it's better not to carry on long conversations in comments. If there is an edit you can make to your post that you think addresses his confusion, please do that (please also flag either the post or obsolete comments so we can clean up the thread). Failing that you can invite him to join you in chat. But an edit would be the best next step if you can. Thanks.
I thought i explained it in the comments, twice, already! :) How would editing my post be better when i just don't get it? :) I am being serious. So, i think i will not reply, but should it so happen that anyone else adds something that tends to clarify, i can add it to the reply. Though, i will make one final comment to user613, and also invite him to chat.
Comments aren't meant to be permanent. If you think there's something that needs to be clarified, editing the post itself is the best way to address it (Don't just append comments or some such; edit the post as if someone had reviewed your first draft of an article and asked questions.) The ideal is that people get everything they need from the post itself, and comments might get deleted. All that said. if you think the post is already clear, you're of course free to do nothing more.
I did not know that about comments. I think it is clear, but obviously he does not. Adding my own clarifications would just preach to the choir, so i don;t think it would be a good idea unless we reached agreement.
Understood. With any such feedback, you have to decide if the confusion is worth addressing or if you think it's likely to just be one reader and not worth further time. That's a personal judgement call; I was just offering options. As for which room, this room is always fine, but you're welcome to create another room if you prefer.
He's been in this room recently enough to be pingable, so I'd suggest starting here.
@BoruchTkatch oh good; that link creates a new room and copies the comments there. Unfortunately there's no way to trigger it early (a feature that's been requested). But since you've hit it, you could do that :-) Or here -- your choice.
BTW you can edit chat messages within 5 minutes. Hover over your message and look for the down-arrow that appears in the upper left of the box. Click that to get to a menu that includes "edit" (also "delete").
