@IsaacMoses @MonicaCellio @msh210 Is the purpose of the "recommend deletion" option in the review queue for things that I would delete had I posted them, or for posts that I think objectively need to be deleted? Some are bad answers, but aren't anything other than just incorrect.

@YEZ answers that are merely incorrect shouldn't generally be deleted, just downvoted. Answers that don't answer the question, fundamentally misunderstand the question, or are incomprehensible should be deleted. And then there are the things that are quasi-answers, like one-liners that need to be expanded; sometimes those should be comments, sometimes they should get post notices, and sometimes they should just go away, so use your best judgement.

Let's say I misunderstood an answer, and upvoted it assuming it meant something more than it said. Now in comments it has become clear that isn't what the author meant. I can't rescind my upvote. Is it wrong of me to edit it, remove my vote, and then rollback?

Oh, and anything that is actually offensive or spam should get taken out more directly, but I expect you know that. :-)

YEZ
@MonicaCellio OK - up until now I had been pretty liberal with voting for deletion, and was just doubting if that was the correct way. Thanks.

@YEZ that kind of edit is generally frowned on, but if you misunderstood and it was clarified in comments, can you edit it to incorporate the clarification? (And then flag obsolete comments for bonus points.)

@MonicaCellio I would feel bad editing the answer to explain how it fails to answer the question...

@YEZ it's all somewhat subjective, which is why humans and not bots have to make these decisions. And we see very few community deletions here, so (without reviewing your activity in particular) I doubt you've been out of line.
@YEZ well yeah, you don't want to do that, but sometimes something can be cut/pasted directly from comments.

@MonicaCellio have any advice for this judaism.stackexchange.com/a/40128/4794 ?

@MonicaCellio I think I did it in a way which actually was an improvement of the answer in the end - got my upvote removed - got 3 helpful flags - and I think it was my 80th edited post to boot!

@YEZ good job! Thanks.

I'm rather late coming to this (and also haven't caught up in this chat room yet), but it seems to me like a p'sak-seeking Q. Anyone?

YEZ
@msh210 Why is it more psak-y than anything else? He doesn't seem to be referring to himself, except for what he thinks the psak should be.

@YEZ It asks not what the halacha is about smoking e-cigarettes but what the halacha is if one does it with a shinuy in a case of tzaar. Tzaar is a mitigating condition that is person-dependent and should be addressed to one's rav not Mi Yodeya. Asking about shinuy also seems p'sak-seeking somehow.

@msh210 If the question were kept as it is, but added "CYLOR, of course" at the end, would it be different? It just lacks the reminder. It seems to be asking about principles.
@MonicaCellio can we do a science experiment on the editor-pinging?

@YEZ Eh. I don't like it.
@YEZ Can I help you? I'm around.

@msh210 do you have a post you edited recently?
@msh210 never mind - mission completed.

@YEZ If so, I don't know about it.
@DoubleAA If you mean judaism.stackexchange.com/q/15556, then the system, not the OP, deleted it. Have there been two?

YEZ
@YEZ your test here worked (I got pinged). Once you've seen this, please delete that. (BTW, my other comment referred to Anna's edit of your question, not this answer.) — Monica Cellio 19 mins ago

@YEZ Okay, good.

9:01 PM
@YEZ oops -- I got your comment ping before the ping for this earlier chat message (because chat pings are delayed if you've been in chat recently), so by the time I saw this you'd already done the science. So, retroactively, "sure, go ahead!". :-)

Q: What should we do with one line answers?

Shmuel BrinThere are quite a few answers which are one liners (some are also unsourced) or just a link only answer from users who weren't around in a while: For example: Any information about Rabbi Barnett Hasden's "Ner Tamid K" hechsher? Who asked Rav Moshe about capital punishment? Why should A Capell...

9:47 PM
@msh210 I meant that one just didn't want to have a discussion there in comments about why exactly it was deleted.

I see we have a tag (with one question). I know we've had facebook questions but I see no tag for that. How do y'all feel about having a single tag instead of one per (or some with and some without)? This is assuming that we need a tag at all in addition to ; I'm not sure but we've got enough other specialized tags that I'm not averse.

11:24 PM
@MonicaCellio If we do opt for a separate tag I support the combination tag .
