@CharlesKoppelman I am not a finely tuned turing bot.

12:17 AM
New close reasons are live, and SE gave us four (not three) starting reasons. They took our p'sak one as we wrote it (yay!), and added ones for comparative religion, Hebrew, and... Purim torah. Yeah, I guess that does represent a significant portion of our closed questions. :-)
Let me be clear that I am not criticizing; I'm just amused. They came up with starting reasons for all the sites, as I understand it, based on some analysis, which sounds like a huge amount of work for somebody. Good job Community Team!

12:31 AM
@Daniel Nope. What I have stated in the past is true.
@msh210 And what would capital 'o' orthodox be?
@Daniel Correct.
@MonicaCellio Karaites don't believe that what they practice is Judaism?!

@AdamMosheh they might. So do Jews for Jesus. In neither case does the broad Jewish community agree.

@MonicaCellio Does the broad Jewish community believe that Orthodoxy is Judaism when it by definition excludes them??

@AdamMosheh let me rephrase: you will find no significant argument within the Jewish community, writ large, about the status of karaites or J4J. You can't say the same about Conservative, Reform, or Reconstructionist Judaism. We'll never all agree on who's in, but when there's actually uncontested consensus on who's out, that's significant.

4:26 AM
@AdamMosheh Yeah, I didn't actually think that you had made it up
@msh210 That's exactly what a bot trying to pass the Turing test would say :)

4:47 AM
@Daniel However, I am not a bot trying to pass the Turing test.

4:57 AM
@msh210 Uh huh. Sure.
I think we should get you tested: vk-couples-testing.appspot.com/test/1961003/CBuGrI

5:35 AM
@HodofHod I think I'll pass. I am not very good at test-taking.

@msh210 FRAUD!
Hmm, do you think they add this test to the Turing, these days?
That would be interesting.

@HodofHod I think the Turing, these days may or may not have this test. I don't know.

@msh210 This was a triumph.

@ShmuelBrin, many thanks. Why don't you write it up as an answer? (If you did, but, due to its brevity, the software converted it to a comment, maybe expand it. For example, you can explain the scope of your personal experience.) — msh210 Jun 21 at 5:59
^ @ShmuelBrin?
s/scope/extent/, I guess
@HodofHod Thanks.

@msh210 Huh. Go figure. Thought for sure.....

5:43 AM
Okay, I've got housework to do before I sleep. TZT, y'all.

@msh210 G'night!
@Menachem Turns out we have a mutual acquaintance, I noticed him logged into the Google Doc.
@msh210 Poem?

@msh210 done :)

@HodofHod My chavruta

@Menachem Heh! Not a user here, is he?

@HodofHod nope, but I send him here from time to time

5:48 AM
@Menachem Huh. Bit older than me, but we're from the same town. Small world :)

@HodofHod that it is.

@Menachem Nice work on the links. I started working up a small script to detect references and automatically link to them. Now I just have to brush off my JS...
:D

@HodofHod are you saying that you want it to go through the questions and answers here and automatically add a link to Book and Chapter when it finds a reference to it?

@Menachem No... A userscript to detect it in new posts and comments. Essentially this

@HodofHod wow, that sounds like an undertaking. Good luck, and keep us posted.

6:05 AM
@Menachem Do my best.

9:20 AM
@IsaacMoses: With the help of your advice, a bunch of digging around on the internet, and a lot of experimentation, I was able to create a crude form in my spreadsheet that takes the Sefer and Verse and spits out the content of the cell, the URL. docs.google.com/spreadsheet/…
I had to change the permissions to let everyone edit, so that everyone could use the dropdown boxes. I protected the data to prevent it from being edited. I also added another worksheet that only has the Page ID, instead of the whole URL. This can be used to generate the URL in the future.
At the moment it doesn't prevent you from choosing non-existent chapters (i.e Bereshit 67) but it doesn't display anything either.

10:06 AM
Anyone know what version of Tanach chabad.org uses? They don't seem to have any Reish's or Alef's with degeshim.

10:20 AM
This is actually kinda sad...

@DoubleAA don't they use jps like mechon mamre ?

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob No. Genesis 9:29 Genesis 9:29

1:52 PM
@DoubleAA Yeyasher kochacha, @SethJ!
@Menachem Nice!
@DoubleAA Why? It makes sense that this question would have broader appeal than most, since funerals are one of the aspects of Judaism that people outside it are most likely to come into contact with.
If you go to Google and type in "How long is a Jewish," Google suggests that you complete the question with "wedding," "funeral," "year," or service. If you replace "Jewish" with the name of various religions, you get very similar results (excluding "year").

@DoubleAA Oh, stop. Thanks.
@IsaacMoses Baruch Tihyeh.

... and if you search for how long is a jewish funeral, guess what comes up as the first result (even if you use a private browser window)?
Perhaps we should put up questions that explicitly address other three members of this set.
EIEIO

2:18 PM
@DoubleAA the notice at the bottom of the page says Judaica Press, but I don't know who that is.

@DoubleAA Where is there an Alef Dagush?
@DoubleAA That it's the only one? Kind of par for the course. That it was earned on that particular question? I guess it's something people search for. I'm proud of @IsaacMoses for earning it, though.

@Seth Vayikra 23
Would you rather I call it an Aleph Muppak?

2:39 PM
@DoubleAA You didn't call it Dagush, I did. (Unless I missed it.) So I'm fine with that name. Incidentally, ou.org/torah/tt/5764/noach64/dav.htm
@DoubleAA Thanks.

2:54 PM
@MonicaCellio @DoubleAA It links to this judaicapress.com/…

@DoubleAA When does Reish ever receive a dageish?

@AdamMosheh I remember this discussion once before. @DoubleAA will surely have the answer. I knew of one Reish (but I forget where ATM), and I think I was told there were more.

What's the deal with MathOverflow.net? Was it SE 1.0 until yesterday, then migrated to SE 2.0? How is it different from Mathematics?

@SethJ @DoubleAA
@SethJ I thought that aleph, chet, hei, reish, and ayin cannot receive a dageish. mapik is different though. but doesn't only hei receive mapik when it's at the end of the verb and there is a feminine direct object, or at the end of a noun and is possessive?
(siman: ach ha-reya)
i found this on the internet.
the dagesh found in the lamed of leimor is called dageish tzarfan.
actually on bam here
but i'm trying to figure out this alef and reish thing too

3:14 PM
@AdamMosheh Exceptions to the exceptions.

@SethJ mapik-hei is the exception to the exception
but not alef...

@HodofHod @MonicaCellio I'm surprised Chabad couldn't invest in presenting a more correct text for Tanach.
@SethJ Think of Alif Hamza as a parallel.

4:23 PM
@DoubleAA They are.
@DoubleAA What do you mean by "more correct," though?

@IsaacMoses Yes, it was 1.0 and is now 2.0 AFAICT (though I don't know when the change occurred precisely). The difference is that MO is used for research-level math only and math.se is used for math in general (I'm guessing henceforth non-research-level-only, though maybe not).
In other words, (no offense, but) you probably won't be asking any questions on MO.

No. They have somewhat different audiences (there is overlap, but of course you can have accounts on both sites and participate as you wish). — Shog9 yesterday

@DoubleAA In what way?

...though this might help.

@msh210 Thanks. I wonder if this was the last site left on 1.0.

@IsaacMoses There was a 1.0 parenting site IIRC. Don't know whether it's still around.

@msh210 moms4mom.com, which started as SE 1.0, is privately run using OSQA

@DoubleAA Which p'sukim?
@IsaacMoses Are you referring to Ecclesiastes 7:2

4:53 PM

@IsaacMoses That's the one I was thinking of. Thanks for disillusioning me.

@SethJ @DoubleAA I wrote a comment to @MonicaCellio question on bil3m. I posted a few vids n described somethings. Maybe they are helpful for you?

Ooh, I have a new game for this chat room!
You know how "i18n" means "internationalization"/"internationalisation", because there are 18 letters missing between the 'i' and the 'n'?
Well, it does, whether you knew it or not. :-)

@msh210 :) that's a cool game thanks for sharing now I know

Now every time @MoriDoweedhYaAgob writes something like "bil3m" we should try to things that it can be short for: fill in any three letters to make a word, or something funny.

5:00 PM
@msh210 Doweedh Ya3gob

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob Ya big gob.

@msh210 where do you live? Will you come to my wedding if I invite you?
You have to come dressed properly. Jalabiyya wakafiyya

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob St. Louis, Mo., and I don't know.

5:06 PM
@msh210 I'm in bp :(

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob That would have been easier to understand if you'd written it in Arabic characters.

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob How long will the wedding run for?

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob I always dress properly. Portapholp vinzdrul.

@IsaacMoses lol

@SethJ ain't nobody got time for that

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob Borough Park?

@msh210 yea
@IsaacMoses only Allah knows. But first ba3zrath HaShem I need to find a wife lol

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob I was about to ask when it was going to be.

@SethJ inshaAllah soon
@SethJ you live in the area?

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob Make sure she speaks Numeralish.

@SethJ inshaAllah
@SethJ have to make sure she wears a mithpa7ath with a rodid on top.

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob I keep my location off of these boards. But it would not be very easy for me to come to Burepark.

@SethJ it's ok I will live steam it for all if mi yodea :)

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob Yodeled?

@msh210 obi wan kanobi
@msh210 obi w3n qanobi

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob (I have never watched Star Wars, which may explain why) I don't get the reference.

I didn't either but the name is good enough to use lol

5:19 PM
@HodofHod Is this the same as this?

@SethJ I recognized it right away in English characters, but the computer I'm using now doesn't render Arabic characters, so English works for me :)

@SethJ My only Arabic teacher once said that hamza on an alif is like a hebrew mappik. I figure you know better than I do how good the analogy is.

@DoubleAA is the arabic alif like the hebrew aleph?

@AdamMosheh The Arabic alef is a vowel

@AdamMosheh That's just what it means...
@AdamMosheh The ones with the 'unusual' dots.
@HodofHod For example, they skipped some dots in certain words as I mentioned above...
@Daniel ? That wasn't my understanding.

5:33 PM
@DoubleAA Well, I have no real training in linguistics, so I am not really sure how to describe sounds, but the arabic Alef makes a long Aa sound

(I have (pretty much) no knowledge of Arabic.)

Q: Essential Requirements of Jewish conversion

raywhat are the essential requirements of conversion to judaism such that if one of these requirements is not fulfilled the conversion is invalid

Is it possible that this is not a duplicate?

There are still a few slots open for Twitter curator volunteers
3

I feel like we must have that question somewhere, but I can't find it

@Daniel not exactly a dupe:
4
Q: Why isn't modern conversion invalid?

MillthornI have heard that Rashi said that there are three requirements for conversion: brit milah; mikveh; korban in Beit Hamikdash. If this is true, why is it that this is not rendering modern conversions invalid until the Beit Hamikdash is rebuilt?

@IsaacMoses It would entail logging into a Web site, clicking to the "schedule a post" page, pasting the MY URL, typing a summary, choosing a time for post to go through, and hitting Enter? Or what?

5:46 PM
@AdamMosheh Nope. Linked one is not out yet.
@DoubleAA Ah. I'm not sure which hebrew text they're using for the new one. For that matter, I don't know when it'll ever come out.

@msh210 Sounds about right, plus the actual curation - searching for / noticing Q&As on MY that are relevant to something current. I haven't prototyped a process yet. I suppose I could renew the call for volunteers once I have a more specific idea of the mechanics. Ideally, though, some experienced twitterers (a group I do not consider myself a member of) will step up earlier to help get things started.

@IsaacMoses you know how with the haggadah we separated curation from preparation, so people who felt comfortable finding questions could propose them and other people could then take them and edit them? I've never used Twitter and don't know its norms, which is why I haven't signed up to be one of the tweeters, but I'd happily add candidate questions to a list from which tweeters could draw.

@MonicaCellio Thanks! Nice idea. Perhaps we could open a dedicated chat room for this purpose. Would you care to post this methods suggestion as an answer to the meta question?

@IsaacMoses chat room or perhaps meta post (CW), so anybody can edit. In chat you have to figure out tracking through suggestion - accepted - done states. I'll try to add a meta answer later; thanks.

6:02 PM
@MonicaCellio The reason I think I'd prefer chat to meta is that this would [hopefully] involve more volume and frequency of changes than the latter is designed to keep up with gracefully. I don't think to much formal tracking of suggestions is necessary if the twitter team is small (my intention). A simple chat reply of "scheduled for MMDD HHMM" is sufficient acknowledgement, and if a tip is missed or a tip is used twice, it's no big deal for a daily link feed, as opposed to a published work.

@MonicaCellio I prefer "twits", but I digress.

@DoubleAA Is there a way to make my questions about the 9 days / 3 weeks more specific?
I don't really see what the problem is with the questions the way they are

@IsaacMoses I have next to no experience tweeting, myself.
@IsaacMoses This sounds very good. The proposer can also propose text to tweet with the link, and the tweeter can use it or modify it or supply his own if the proposer didn't.

6:21 PM
@msh210 Baruch shekivanti

@IsaacMoses A chat reply may be too hard. (It's not all that simple to find a reply when looking at the parent message.) An edit would be easier. I'm not sure whether all owners of a room can edit others' posts. If so, if the curators are made room owners, that might be a better way.

@msh210 The edit tactic is worth a try. If that reply is on the same page, you can see it when you roll over the parent. And like I said, tracking is not that big a deal here.

@IsaacMoses ManishEarth tells me a non-mod owner cannot edit others' posts. Confirmation. (The link is also courtesy ManishEarth.) Never mind, then.

@msh210 A room owner could move messages to another room that stores used messages. That could get messy, though, if there are replies

@IsaacMoses But if the format is that moving = dealing with, and is done before replying or using, then that'd work. That might be too counterintuitive, though.

6:31 PM
@msh210 There could be replies that aren't part of the formal process

@IsaacMoses right

Hello

@Charlie boa tarde

@msh210 oi, como vai?

@Daniel Not that I know of. What would you say if someone posted: There are a lot of questions here on Mi Yodeya about specific restrictions during the 25 hours weeks between sunset on Friday and nightfall on Saturday, but I would like to know all of the things that are forbidden during Shabbat.

6:46 PM
@Charlie bem, e você?

@msh210 não muito, mas vamos indo...

@Charlie er... okay, I have to revert to English. What?

@msh210 i said not much, but I'm living :)

@DoubleAA Well there are a lot more things that are forbidden during Shabbat than during the 3 weeks

@Charlie ah ok :-) That's not what Google Translate tells me
@DoubleAA How about "There are lot of detailed questions about Shabbat prohibitions. Can someone tell me a summary? What are the sorts of things forbidden?"?
(Even that I wouldn't like much tbh, but maybe it can be massaged into somehing meaningful and answerable.)
@Daniel How do you know? I don't see that in the question.

6:51 PM
@msh210 What does that have to do with the question?

@Daniel I guess you're right.

@msh210 ah, google translate is not very good

@Charlie I know.

@msh210 I always read.your name as mishnah210

If you can imagine many books, it doesn't make it better.

6:59 PM
@DoubleAA I have to admit, I can't really imagine an entire book written about this topic
maybe I'm wrong

@Charlie No relation.
@Daniel Rabbi Shimon Eider wrote one.

@msh210 yeah, I thought it had not

@msh210 @Daniel and that's just from one Ashkenazi perspective!

7:49 PM
@DoubleAA @SethJ
@monica-cellio the hHeith is not a glutteral letter. It was lost to Ashkenazi Jews and they began pronouncing it as a chaf. However the hHeith sounds nothing like a chaf. Same with hHawa n yisShHoq. m.youtube.com/watch?v=qj0v-qJhjlo listen to this for how the later nevee'eem spoke up to about the talmud period. m.youtube.com/watch?feature=plcp&v=Rra36Jphs5Q this is how Jews pronounced letters during Mosha Rabbeinu's time before n a little bit after him. The double letters came letter as seen in the gamoro that nevee'eem brought them into the hebrew language from bovel I thi
check that out :)
those 2 videos that is

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob I had to read like 4 times before I figured out what hHawa n yisShHoq meant

@Daniel 7awa yi97oq
:)

@DoubleAA Well, I don't know what he includes. There's also Nit'e Gavriel.

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob While you're using numbers that (kind of) look like Arabic letters, why not just write Adam as 1d0
It's no less helpful to people who are unfamiliar with Arabic (which is most of the people here)

@Daniel 1101100

8:35 PM
@DoubleAA 'Polities'? Seriously?

8:49 PM
@Daniel I'm familiar with Arabic and I have no idea what you're saying.

@SethJ Yeah, because it's not very helpful
1 like and alif
0 like a mim

@Daniel Maybe you should do it right-to-left. :-)

It's about as helpful as 7, 9, or 3
@msh210 Don't give our friend @MoriDoweedhYaAgob any ideas
:)

@Daniel alaf and meem are a and m not 1 and 0
:/
@SethJ anta safaradi?

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob not until you tell me how we know that this one group, and only that one group, has the "correct" tradition after thousands of years. But thanks for at least supplying some context, as I automatically ignore link-only posts.

9:00 PM
@MonicaCellio it is not only one group. many safaradim speak this way
the older generations. not the younger ones because they speak modern made up hebrew

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob As opposed to older Hebrew, which wasn't made up?

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob there you go again. So anything not in accordance with your tradition is "made up"? As with past comments, this is about your logic and approach, not about language in particular. I'm not a linguist and I bet you aren't either.

@Daniel right
@MonicaCellio everyone knows modern hebrew is made up.....dont get offended for something a kid knows is truth

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob How did it come to exist, then?
@MoriDoweedhYaAgob Aren't all languages made up?

9:03 PM
@MoriDoweedhYaAgob I'm not going to read the Wikipedia page about modern Hebrew
What do you want me to get from that?
@MoriDoweedhYaAgob I mean how did ancient Hebrew come to exist if it wasn't made up?
Modern Hebrew was just made up more recently

@Daniel ancient hebrew is the language of odhom harishon
also depends on how ancient you go
@Daniel modern hebrew isnt the language of HaShem
it is not loshon haqodash

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob Hashem speaks using human words?

@Daniel His angels do

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob And they pronounce the letters exactly the way you do? How do you know that?

@Daniel cuz i said so
;)

9:07 PM
@MoriDoweedhYaAgob you jumped from pronunciation to vocabulary. That some of the latter changed in recent centuries doesn't say anything about the former.

@MonicaCellio what vocabulary

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob Oh ok. Got it. You convinced me

@MonicaCellio we know according to the gamoro which letters came later
@Daniel :) good thing you are catching up

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob When you say "made up" I assume you mean that some modern words had to be added. So what? That has nothing to do with pronunciation.

@MonicaCellio made up i mean it is not the real loshon haqodash
@MonicaCellio not that new words are invented

9:09 PM
@MoriDoweedhYaAgob you claim to have perfect knowledge of how Hebrew was pronounced from the beginning. That is what I am challenging. Nobody can know that.

2 mins ago, by MoriDoweedhYaAgob
@Daniel cuz i said so

@MonicaCellio i didnt say perfect. i claim to have the best hebrew from now a days

BAM! Proved you wrong!

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob what do you mean by that exactly? Remember we got here from your assertions about pronunciation and everybody but you making things up.

@MonicaCellio no thats what you want to believe doesnt mean it is true
@MonicaCellio we know which letters are from what part of the mouth

9:10 PM
@MoriDoweedhYaAgob then answer my question: what exactly are you claiming about the correctness of your pronunciation? Another evasive response and I'm done.

@MonicaCellio i did answer already. it is more accurate from our time

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob how? And even if so, how much ambiguity remains? It's not like the talmud recorded things in IPA.
@MoriDoweedhYaAgob never mind. Or, at least, don't continue on my account.

@MonicaCellio linguists and masoroh go hand in hand
@MonicaCellio dont get mad :)

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob Your arguments are maddeningly circular

@Daniel dont question mah authorituh

9:13 PM
@MoriDoweedhYaAgob I'm not. I'm done questioning it. It isn't worth it

@Daniel we who speak proper hebrew dont need to be questioned :)

@Daniel yeah, I don't think there's a question.

@MonicaCellio ask a linguinst and he will tell you the same, those videos show best hebrew to date

@Daniel a mim (written LtR) would look more like a q.

@SethJ Yeah, but that's not a number :)

9:17 PM
@MoriDoweedhYaAgob ana darastil-3arabee.
(My conjugation is probably way off.)

@mori your arguments never cease to redefine for me how unconvincing one can make reasonable things sound.
3

@DoubleAA i dont like to argue over ignorance. i just state what i have to say and stick with it. i let the rest do the explaining

@DoubleAA Yeah, I agree. I think that it is probably true that biblical Hebrew sounded more like teimoni pronunciation than any other current pronunciation, but the arguent "Because I said so" makes me want to argue that it's not true

@Daniel dont question me :)
@DoubleAA did you watch those videos?

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob Telling someone not to question you is a very bad way to debate something

9:21 PM
@Daniel im not debating. i am teaching you
tahts why i said dont question me
:)
@SethJ mashaAllah

@MonicaCellio Actually, there's quite a history (not much in the Talmud, however) of rabbinic writings describing how various sounds are made with the mouth.

@SethJ sefer dikduk from the tunisian rabbi forgot his name

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob I don't think there's a linguist alive who believes that 'jeem' is a native Hebrew letter/sound.

@SethJ ghreemal
3'

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob Dunno about any Tunisian rabbis, though it doesn't surprise me; and if you are correct, he is hardly alone.

9:30 PM
@SethJ tunisians pronounce the jeem as a gimmal and ghimmal and quf like a quf instead of a guf
@SethJ but when speaking with arabs they switch to jeem and guf

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob 'G' (as in 'good') with a Dagesh, and 'Gh' (or 3' if you prefer) without, is how I believe the ancients pronounced the letter known today in Hebrew as Gimmel.
@MoriDoweedhYaAgob They are not alone.
@MoriDoweedhYaAgob Makes sense.

@SethJ tahts how they video pronounces it too :)

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob My understanding is that Iraqi Jews do (or did) the same.

@SethJ many middle eastern jews did

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob Which way, like the Arabs, or like the sans-Arab Tunisians.
@MoriDoweedhYaAgob Right. I've heard, though, that they developed Syrian pronunciation.

9:34 PM
@SethJ many still have the 7eith 3yeen 3'yeen and thow

Anyway, Timezone Tov, all. I need to bounce.

@SethJ ill see you later inshaAllah

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob I don't know about "many", but certainly some do. That's who taught me.
;-)
@MoriDoweedhYaAgob later.

@SethJ :) many but still a handful

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob I'd almost be willing to bet we have friends in common.
But for real, I gotta go.
Bye

9:36 PM
@SethJ everyone is my friend. you my friend <3
@SethJ sholom 3leicham
@SethJ assalamu 3leikum warahmatullah wabarakatu

@SethJ I wouldn't be surprised. But since Dhoweed's goal seems to be to assert that he's right (or "teach" without sharing his credentials), I can't tell that from anything he says. If he provided a citation that would be useful. Not a video lecture that you have to listen to to dig info out of; a simple citation. Oh well. I don't actually care that much; it's just that bad "logic" makes me cringe.

@MonicaCellio both videos are 3mins long put together. whats wrong with that?

9:51 PM
@MoriDoweedhYaAgob In general, I just think people aren't that interested in watching videos
I know I'm not
I'd much rather read some text

@Daniel is this not a learning site?

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob It is, but usually written text is easier to learn from than youtube

@Daniel how can you learn how to pronounce a letter from a book? it is better to hear it

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob We're not trying to learn how to pronounce a letter. Where did you get that idea from?
You were arguing about the authenticity of your pronunciaiton

@Daniel i was showing how it is pronounced. i am not arguing it. you are arguing it. i for fact know this is more original than modern made up hebrew

9:55 PM
@MoriDoweedhYaAgob But we already know how you pronounce them
We don't need your videos
Anyway, I don't think that you'll find that many people will be that interested in clicking on your youtube links in chat

@Daniel you dont know how to pronounce it. you dont how to differentiate between an 3yeen and an alaf?
a 7eith and a chaf and a hei?

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob I know how to do it. I just don't do it

@Daniel problem :(

And I certainly know what you mean when you are talking about it

@Daniel then speak properly

9:57 PM
@MoriDoweedhYaAgob 1. Why does it matter if we pronounce things exactly the way adam harishon did. 2. How do you know that this is exactly how he pronounced things?
and 3. Even if this is the necessary way of pronouncing Hebrew, why do you need to use numbers to write it out?

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob you say it's in the g'mara (or j1moro or however you write it); can you tell me where? Just a simple masechet and daf.
And yeah, I'm not generally interested in watching videos, and even if interested I can't always do so (public places, corporate network where youtube is blocked, etc)

@Daniel 1. because this is how the language is supposed to sound like. 2. some sort of masoro 3. we dont have to use numbers but there is not english letter which sounds like our letters

@MoriDoweedhYaAgob a demonstration is very helpful, but not useful until it has been validated. Just because some guy on the internet says that's how to pronounce it doesn't make it so. Show me a source and we've got a place to start.

10:10 PM
