@MonicaCellio yes. Doing this interspersed with putting kids to bed; sorry about the pauses between responses

@IsaacMoses no problem! I appreciate you taking a look, and I appreciate the support.

@MonicaCellio I am so sad that you have to do this to get SE to even respond at all to your hurt

@IsaacMoses so am I. I would much rather spend that money on tzedakah, not lawyers.

@MonicaCellio amen v'chen yehi ratzon
@MonicaCellio so, you found a hi-res version of your avatar?

@IsaacMoses somebody made one for me (not sure if the artist wants public credit). I'm very grateful. Maybe we can improve it, but this gives me something to put up.
By improve, I mean adding elements, like some people suggested in blog comments.
The base image is fine and works at the larger scale, yay.

@MonicaCellio that's so cool! It's nicely done.You can also use it as an upgrade for your site avatar.

@IsaacMoses good point!

@MonicaCellio eh. I think you're in good shape, graphically. No need to get all fancy. The avatar clearly identifies the campaign to everyone who's in the know enough to be likely to donate.

Yes. That avatar is me everywhere, so it's easily recognizable.
GoFundMe really wants you to use a photo, but I'm not comfortable with that.

@MonicaCellio this fragment of the Mandelbrot Set (which is also my face on, inter alia, LinkedIn) agrees.

@IsaacMoses oh, I'd forgotten that you use it on LinkedIn too. Nice.

@MonicaCellio best of luck with everything - thanks for sharing the gofundme link to this unfortunately worthy cause!

@MonicaCellio Your religious background and, to a lesser extent, where you live are pretty well known in the SE crowd, methinks. Perhaps designate Tree of Life to get the excess? Just a thought. Obviously you may have better ideas. The campaign looks fine to me fwiw.

@רבותמחשבות thanks! I'm saddened that it has become necessary. I wish SE would come to its senses. :-(

@msh210 thanks. I considered that, but also don't want to alienate donors from elsewhere on the network who are hesitant about religious causes (even one such as this). I'd like to find an organization providing support services for marginalized communities, something akin to shelters for abuse victims or medical services for the underprivileged, but obviously not either of those in particular.

@MonicaCellio I hear they are planting trees now

@msh210 Even after adding "Judaism" and "charity" to the search, I still get no relevant results. I've found a Yoga teaching centre in Dublin, and a lot of references to mysticism in various mythologies, but no charitable organization.

@IsaacMoses Ah. I'd been assuming a charity.

@TRiG Well, I don't know what msh210's precise intentions were, but a) synagogues are generally non-profit organizations and accept charitable donations (though I acknowledge that supporting an institution that doesn't specialize in serving disadvantaged people may not meet some definitions of "charity"), b) this one in particular may be in need of charity, per se, following the attack, and c) msh210 may have meant that as a placeholder for "charity to help those harmed by the attack"

Q: Why was Noach the person to save the animals?

Kazi bácsiWhile reading this week's portion, I was wondering why did Noach have in particular the merit to save the animals of the created world? They could have been saved in other ways, for example the Land of Israel was not flooded according to Bereishit Rabbah 33:6, but Hashem could have done a miracle...
