@msh210 Ha! I wondered if anyone else noticed that!
Interestingly, I count no less than 3 different spellings of "Lubavitch" there.
@msh210 Gut voch :)

@IsaacMoses :DDD

@IsaacMoses The first link there ("The Mi Yodeya community") is to Meta, which is odd.

@TRiG Oops. He did that last time he linked us, too.

@TRiG email sent ...

Q: Feedback for "Hagada - Mi Yodeya?"

Isaac MosesIf you downloaded "Hagada - Mi Yodeya?" and certainly if you used it at your Seder, we would love to hear what you thought of it. Are there any improvements you'd suggest? Is there anything about it you specifically hope we don't change? Do you have any interesting stories about using it at a S...

In reading H-MY today, I noticed that our How2Seder advice addresses 3 of the four sons as targets. I'm not sure which 3.

@Meta-Man I advertised the haggadah on a mailing list and got email tonight from somebody who was confused by our landing page because (I'm inferring here) there wasn't a big "download" button graphic. Missed the link, in other words.

@MonicaCellio That's eminently fixable. ...

@IsaacMoses can we actually do graphics as links? Hmm, I guess there's no reason we can't, now that I think about it. (Markdown confuses me sometimes.)

2:38 AM
@MonicaCellio Yes. We can also do "DOWNLOAD" in text.

BTW, I took a stack of small flyers (ad with download URL) to my minyan; a bunch got taken and somebody took the leftovers to take to a Brotherhood brunch tomorrow. Yay!
@IsaacMoses ah, good point!

@MonicaCellio Nice! Yeyasher kocheich

@IsaacMoses done.
@IsaacMoses, I've seen some propagation on G+ and some of the posts have comments. Worth collecting those in a CW post on the feedback question? They aren't necessarily all feedback, but they may be worth tracking. (And ditto for other social-media links that people are aware of, of course.)

@MonicaCellio Anything that looks useful, I guess
@MonicaCellio ... and doner :)
@MonicaCellio My grandmother, incidentally, got confused by Dropbox's landing page. I'd still love to find a way to host it that allows direct downloads.

@IsaacMoses I would too. I got one direct question about that too ("why are you using dropbox?").

2:52 AM
@MonicaCellio Did the questioner have another option to suggest?

@IsaacMoses Stack Exchange :-) (No other suggestion, just "why aren't you self-hosting?")

@MonicaCellio Fair enough. It's just not something they do, as I understand it. I think their servers are optimized for dealing up SE content in a certain way, and not for hosting random files.

@IsaacMoses seems like. So we'll have to keep looking; dropbox is probably still better than somebody's personal web space, but it'd be nice to improve on both.

@MonicaCellio Yup.
@MonicaCellio OK, gotta go do stuff. Shavua' tov.

@IsaacMoses you too, and TZT!

3:21 AM
@TRiG Fixed now. Thanks for the alert.

3:44 AM
I put a copy on my personal web site and added a secondary link, for those having trouble with Dropbox. This isn't the best solution long-term, but for now at least... (I don't mind keeping it there forever, but I'm hoping there's something better out there.)

Q: NFL and Rosh Hashanah. Ravens and Orioles scheduling debacle

srockAs of now the NFL is trying to bully the Orioles into moving their long scheduled Sept. 5th game so the Ravens can play their opening day game on this night. The obvious solution is for the Ravens to play on Wednesday night when the Orioles have an away game. The NFL has cited Rosh Hashanah a...

^ I'm sure I can Google this, but what's the issue here? Merely competing for fans? or do they share a stadium? The question should probably also specify they're different sports: otherwise "the NFL is trying to bully the Orioles" is very unclear.

yea i didnt understand how that is a question
i mean who watches football?
who watches tv? lol

@msh210 ... Actually, I'll fix it slightly myself.
@DhoweedYaAgov You too.
@DhoweedYaAgov Not I.

Q: Why there is no islam.stackexchange but judaism.stackexchange exists?

GreenActually the title is the question. Also assuming the answer I ask another question: why then judaism.stackexchange appeared before islam.stackexchange? Does Judaism worth to be more popular/known then Islam? And yes, I'm neither Islamist nor Muslim nor Judaist, have never been in holy land and...

@msh210 oh, those are different sports? Shows what I know about sports. :-) I pretty much ignored the "bullying" part and focused only on the scheduling (the only part that I think is on-topic). Well, now that somebody's pointed out that Thursday is RH too, it's not av ery interesting question...

Q: Contributors with a lack of knowledge

SAHI have had a great experience on Mi Yodeya in general, but I have noticed that certain aspects of the site/community can be discouraging to contributors with a lack of Jewish knowledge. For example: -The mix of English and Hebrew/Yiddish terms, and particularly the use of Hebrew script in answe...

2.0 Kviews, and it looks like it's pulling in new users

8:30 PM
@TRiG that was me. :-) I was going to close it (and the other) but none of the close reasons seem to fit. Maybe "too localized"?
@IsaacMoses yes, very exciting! Everybody, this is a reminder to take a little extra care with the new users; we want to draw them in, not scare them off with comments that sound critical when they're not meant to be. (See the immediately-prior meta post.) We generally do a good job of this but we've had some hiccups at times; if, as I hope, we're about to get a bunch of new users, let's try to double-check what we write through the lens of someone who doesn't know us yet. Thanks!
