2:29 AM
@Adám TIO was just re-built on three shiny new servers. As a "side effect", Dyalog APL 16.0 was installed.
6

more memory, yay!

I think that means 1 frontend and 2 arenas
Not a third arena

Ah

That's 1 GB + the ~2 I downloaded.

2:33 AM
what did you download?

More RAM.
(Well, not really, but zram is close.)

how does one download RAM? I want to download me some RAM too!

2 hours later…
4:16 AM
@NieDzejkob tio.run/…
Looks like the feed won't do it...
TIO is being migrated to Linode, which offers twice the RAM for the same price. https://www.linode.com/?r=1ea9f82e481e6646fee4739144eac412f8c50611 There should be no downtime.

5:15 AM
@Dennis sorry for the late response (sleeping): I got that error only once when I opened a specific link in a new tab. When I copied the link and opened it in the same window instead, it worked.
And it works either way now ^

Ah, OK. I fixed a similar issue yesterday, so probably caching.

6:00 AM
@Dennis Cool. Also, whoa, is it just me or is TIO much snappier now?

@Adám Hard to judge from my slow connection, but Linode is supposed to be faster than DO.

6:15 AM
@Dennis Well, it certainly feels faster, both in loading, switching language, and execution. And if my memory serves me right, the Debug's timings are much shorter than they used to be. Is AndrewSavinykh's mirror still up and on the old system so I can compare?

I'm not sure. @AndrewSavinykh?

Well, the mirror gets far less traffic
So not a fair comparison

@Adám I've been running on linode in last few month. I however run the whole setup on a single server. And yes, absence of any traffic whatsoever also will skew any comparison

@Adám You could add 192.241.130.16 tio.run to your hosts file. The old servers are still up.
Disregard that. I'm currently building Spidermonkey there and the arena is saturated.

@Dennis 192.241.130.16 runs 16.0, so I'm not sure what's up with that.

6:27 AM
It does not. Something didn't work.

1 hour later…
7:45 AM
@Dennis did you recently pull Retina or something?

8:23 AM
@MartinEnder yes. The whole shebang was rebuild on linode
So latest versions of everything

meh. for Retina it would be best to stick to only tagged commits.
(which are the only stable releases)
if that's a problem, I guess I'll have to start using some branches for Retina development, but currently the master branch is really just the latest (not necessarily stable) build

@MartinEnder I;ll happily change that. So the latest from this page, right? github.com/m-ender/retina/releases

Dennis will still need to re-pull when he is awake again, but I'll change the pull script to take it from this page.

thank you
actually, Retina probably won't need to be updated again there. 1.0 will be different enough that just pulling it will likely break most of the TIO links on PPCG, so it'll probably better to separate the two versions as two languages on TIO anyway.

8:33 AM
@MartinEnder do you by any chance happen to know why github api is not returning any releases for retina? It does for other languages api.github.com/repos/m-ender/retina/releases

What are you planning?

@AndrewSavinykh I have no clue

@MartinEnder ah that's probably because there are no releases, those are just tags. That's all right
@MartinEnder What I can do easily is to pin to specific commit
ae02f5e4340e05c359bbecaa98bcd4938f244598 looks proper

huh, I thought github just treated tags as releases
how do I turn the tags into releases then?

@MartinEnder well, for now it probably does not matter if I;m just pinning this commit forever. When you get the next version out, I will be able to use tags from here api.github.com/repos/m-ender/retina/tags
so nothing is required from your end

8:37 AM
alright, thanks
@Adám not sure whom you were addressing, but if you meant me then chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/38272856#38272856

@MartinEnder can you quickly double check on my mirror if this is the version/behaviour you are expecting: tio2.tryitonline.nz/##K0otycxL/P@fyyM1JydfRyE8vygnRfH/fwA

trailing linefeed, so yes :)
(the missing trailing linefeeds were why I noticed that it was pulled ;))

@Dennis ^^^ can you pull retina please? I pinned it to the latest "stable"
@MartinEnder and just in case, the fact that it's pinned is not readily obvious, so if you make an interim release before the new version that you want pulled, please tell Dennis explicitly that he needs to unpin. otherwise you are up to a few WTF moments before you figure out why that did not work ;)

sure, thanks for letting me know :)

6 hours later…
2:38 PM
@Dennis Can you please pull Brachylog?

3:19 PM
@AndrewSavinykh @MartinEnder Done.
@Fatalize Done.

ありがとうございました

can we have a list of favorite languages in the browser local storage or cookies?
can the code editor show line numbers?

@NieDzejkob Oh, so that they raise to the top in the language selector? I like that.
23 hours ago, by Dennis
@Uriel Yes, but not in the near future. That would require migrating from text areas to something else.

Leo
@Dennis Husk should be fixed now, could you try pulling and compiling again?

3:36 PM
Compiles fine now. I'll sync the servers in a minute.
@Leo Done.
For reference, the TIO servers have 1 GiB of RAM and 2 GiB of zRAM.
I'm not sure how much RAM the previous version required, but that wasn't enough apparently.

Leo
Great, thank you!
I'm not sure either, I had compiled it on a pc with 8GB of ram, so it must be somewhere in between

1 hour later…
4:49 PM
@Dennis thanks :)

> TIO is powered by DigitalOcean. Their virtual private servers are affordable, fast, scalable, and (most importantly) professionally managed.

If you're looking for a VPS and decide to rent one from DigitalOcean, you can sign up by clicking the link above. You'll get $10 in DO credit for using my referral link and, as soon as you spend the minimum amount on their products, I'll get $25 credit myself to help cover my server costs.
@Dennis please fix Community page

I figured somebody would call me out on that in the first 24 hours... Let's hold off for a couple of days to make sure I don't have to go back.

3 hours later…
8:47 PM
@Dennis If I understand correctly, the server is never aware of that "intermediate" timestamp reference, right? So if I change the code I can safely reuse that timestamp in the answer and just update the real link at the end of the answer

The timestamp in generated Markdown? That's completely cosmetic, you can rename it to whatever you want.

Ok, thanks!
How are things going? Already class holidays there?

The examination period just began. No classes 'til August.

Time to do other things then :-)

Plenty.
