Well, I can read it a bit, although it's difficult. It's playing it and reading it that's the hard part.

I like how i imagine your present approach. Again, my dad fiddles thrice a week without reading a note.

Again, I hey-diddle-diddle all the time and think i understand every iota of notation. To each their own.

I essentially play the chords with my right hand and play double octaves as the bass, when I'm just playing for fun. For a few songs I play the chords on the left and melody on the right, but that's only the ones I already know the melody to. And I have fun dancing around the chords on the right when I don't know the melody, too :)
