@JosephWright Any idea why I can't edit my post? I'm trying to add my OS and texlive version info the question for the sake of completeness. tex.stackexchange.com/q/16801/5169

anyone here?

Bizarre, the system wouldn't recognise my login credentials from the main site. Harumph. Anyway, hello.
@PeterisKrumins With regard to your question on previewing TeX, which editor are you using?

9:02 AM
Funny: Just got 20k rep the same day I'm declared a Fanatic.

9:17 AM
That's the only thing I reached before you, Martin... Fanatic (didn't miss a day from the day I signed in to the day I got the badge).
I've put the definition \renewcommand\\{\PackageError{mypkg}{<explanation of why using \string\\ in normal text is bad, but that you can use it in various other places>} in a template for final reports for my students. And it tends to improve their style quite a lot. Should I make a package with only this? ;-)

@BrunoLeFloch: Unfortunately I missed one day in the very first week :-( :-)

@MartinScharrer While we're speaking of fanatics: Today is my 250th consecutive day at tex.sx. :-)

3:11 PM
@lockstep: To bad there is no platinum badge :-)

I'm starting to worry about the tag. Its wiki excerpt states that it "should not be applied if [...] the question is a TeX/LaTeX issue rather than a specific LyX problem", but many users don't act on that advice. Even worse: Questions tagged with tend to be nonspecific, and as a result the tag is no. 1 in the list of unanswered questions.

4:02 PM
@lockstep 268! (though I don't know how I managed that)
@lockstep One of the problems is that there are no real LyX experts on the site.

@Caramdir And the cynical response to that is that there are no real LyX experts at all, because once you become adept enough with LaTeX you switch. (I know this isn't actually quite true, but it may come close. LyX is often an gateway to LaTeX rather than something people stick with.)

Current rep: 20202 :-)
