I was digging around in PGF and discovered "soft paths". That gave me an idea for an old TikZ question (though in the end I didn't need soft paths, but it's where the idea came from).

A: Draw only some segments of a path in TikZ?

I've found a new answer to this using the decorations library. We use the show path construction decoration to split the path up in to sections. We only render the pieces if a certain flag is set. The trick is to figure out a way to input the path in such a way that we can specify the flag swi...

@lockstep What's the bet that no one else will answer. But couldn't the problem be solved by just using \parencite for all the citations, or am I missing something?

@AlanMunn Part of my redefinitions involve \parencite.

@lockstep I see. So there's no simple way to tell \parencite with authoryear to use square brackets instead of parentheses.
