Couldn't resist a TikZ challenge!

Do you pronounce \fi "fee" or "fie" (rhymes with pie)?

@Seamus: I'd say "fee", as it's the opposite of "if". "fie" is more reminiscent of \phi

@MartinTapankov @Seamus: I would pronounce it "fee" (the German "i" or better "ie" sounds like the English "ee"). Sometimes I also say "F"-"I". (Because I used to it from the "FI" fuse: F = Fehler (German: Error), I = Symbol for electr. current.)

@Seamus "Fee, Fie, Fo, Fum, I smell the blood of a TeX conditional.". Seriously, I think I would say, "slash-eff-eye" since it's short enough that spelling it isn't inconvenient. If pressed, I would say "fie". I don't think that "fee" could ever be correct. To counter Martin's argument, "fi" and "phi" ought to be pronounced almost indistinguishably. To counter that argument, I've heard people say "fee" for \phi, and "taxi" is pronounced "tacksee"! Maybe you should ask on English-SX.

@AndrewStacey I was prompted to ask the question by a comment I saw that said something like \def\foo\fi. It made me laugh.

@Seamus \def\foo\fi is actually a dog that is hard of hearing so you shouldn't laugh about it ...

@MartinScharrer What's it doing? blending with the current foreground colour? That's clever!

@Seamus: The nice thing is that it works for all future \color commands!

So e.g. you can blend some multi-colored text with white to get some transparency like effect.

I'm using that in ydoc to display optional arguments.

@Caramdir Isn't that pretty much what I originally had? I'm not sure that that's right, because the colours get layered on top of each other, not blended. The way to check is to rotate the colours around and see if it looks right with each permutation.

@AndrewStacey I didn't see your original version. You are right, this doesn't produce the correct picture (though I still think that it should).

I see now why it doesn't give the correct picture. Too bad.

Just been using TikZ and pgfpages to fill in a PDF form. Only annoying bit is the iterative procedure to get the positioning correct. It'd be nice to use the coordinates shown by ghostview, but for some reason that didn't work (maybe I got the units wrong).

@MartinScharrer: A while back you said that you might package up all your TikZ stuff and put it "somewhere". I've no wish to steal your thunder, but (having just hacked another TikZ answer) what about a "best of TikZ from TeX-SX"? There've been some really nice solutions to stuff from lots of different people that could be put together that would be nice to see spread wider; I suspect that individuals (particularly without CTAN experience) would be reluctant to do it themselves but ...

... would be happy to include their stuff in a larger bundle. It would also be a nice advert for this place (and, just to emphasise the point, for the community part of this site). What do you (or anyone else) think?

@Jake and @Caramdir: Not particularly intending to single anyone out, but you two are two that I think of when thinking of neat TikZ answers so you should read the proposal I just wrote to Martin.

@AndrewStacey: Since interesting! I wouldn't mind a joined publication.

Did you know that answers are limited to 30000 characters? (had to crop some expandable floating point code which was overweight)
