Why now I have a ticker cursor?

@leo Once I was doing a presentation on a Windows computer; just advancing with the arrow, not more. I hit a key by mistake and the image on the screen went upside down.

@leo according to ctan's latexmk readme it ships with perl on windows:

3) Portability under non-UNIX systems:
Under other operating systems some other arrangement needs to be made
to run the file. For example under MS-Windows, the supplied batch file
latexmk.bat will do this. Under current TeXLive (2009 or later)
distribution, latexmk can be installed by TeXLive's package
manager, in which case an executable program is also installed to
run latexmk.pl, and an appropriate version of Perl is part of the
TeXLive system.

@leo but I have no idea if that is a cut down perl distrib with just enough to run latexmk. You should install perl (hard to imagine a machine without it:-)

@leo as I say I have no idea how full a distribution it is. Like most languages it is the installed libraries that make the difference, the language runtime is only a small part of the picture.

Trying to recompile the chart in the meta lottery but I'm getting an error:

@AlanMunn I assume you have a spurious ' before the digit (like the one you show:-) In teX primitive number syntax '19 is 19 base 8 oops

@DavidCarlisle I didn't change; The rules were changed midway to allow two choices. I think you need to add a second choice too, say, -23 or something.

@DavidCarlisle Ok have confirmed that the updated test case has the problem: excess vertical space at top. You'll see that the unfixed and fixed are now side by side and the fixed version is taller.

Anyone ever heard of the pseudo-language allhyph?

From truncate.sty I'm getting the error message

ERROR: Package truncate Error: Hyphenation patterns for `allhyph' not loaded.

and in the code I find

But Alas! I searched the mentioned documentation, all the files language.dat I could find and also my file tree for allhyph, without success.

Even CTAN does not find allhyph.

@PeterGrill yes sorry I decided to sleep. Part of the problem was that you are going \textcolor{\begin{align}.... which is \leavevmode\begin{align} which puts a blank para at the top, but there were still spacing issues may look later but bit of a rush today (office closes for teh holidays at lunch time:-)

@StephanLehmke or just generate a pattern file with every two letter sequence in the alphabet (for some definition of alphabet) with a 1 between the letters (which you could do as a tex expandable loop and not need a file at all...

Is there any way to apply \patterns locally? I'm writing a package which would depend on truncate and if any user of my package would need to rebuild formats this would severely restricht the applicability of my package.

Otherwise I'd need an alternative to \truncate with the breakall option. Is there something like a \clipbox command anywhere? (short of using TikZ)
