@DavidCarlisle just because this accidentally worked previously, isn't it? Still my point stands: That's not officially supported LaTeX syntax.
@StrongBad Define your own units: \DeclareSIUnit \dBA {dBA} \DeclareSIUnit \dBHL {dB~HL}
@MarcelKrüger good lesson. The author should get a medal!

@Skillmon well we had a choice when defining latex2e math font commands of using \begingroup or other constructs that would not work there and \mathxx was defined explicitly so it would work even though as you say, it's not the defined syntax. So "not supported" or "not documented" but not "by chance"

yo'
@Skillmon or depending on your typographical preference, just a thin space \,

@yo' Of course, I assumed that he can tweak it to his liking :) (19.9k on TeX.SX might justify this assumption :P)

yo'
@Skillmon Yeah of course, but it's good to think of which one you prefer :) (sorry, I should have made this more clear)

@MarcelKrüger Is it possible to turn on luapstricks in DVI mode (dvilualatex) if desired?

8:56 AM
How trustworthy is a paper about font readability which includes its tables as blurry pixel graphics?

@DavidCarlisle :D

9:42 AM
@DavidCarlisle Bad kerning.

yo'
DIN paper series (e.g. A4) celebrate 100 years of office existence and widespread use!

@AlexG You meant keming, didn't you?

@AlexG No. For once it's directly generating PDF instructions, so without the PDF backend it's unclear what it would even do. But the implementation also relies on Lua based virtual fonts which are don't exists in DVI mode.

@AlexG I'm so glad you noticed, my hand adjustments not wasted:-)

@DavidCarlisle :)
@Skillmon Apologies for the typo.

9:55 AM
@yo' and latex still defaults to letter paper that's just used in some former colonies:(

yo'
@DavidCarlisle yeah, tell me that... :(

@yo' But for esthetic reasons one should have better kept the 3:4 format for normal paper sheets (letters). Then booklets (2:3) would look much better. A5 booklets are simply ugly.
@MarcelKrüger Makes sense. But I have the case where the embedded PS code just does number crunching (pkg pst-ode) whose result is written to a textfile. No PDF code generated at all. And I would like to leverage the double precision of Lua's flt point operations. (GS is single.)

yo'
10:25 AM
@AlexG no, they aren't. (Just another opinion on an opinion-based thing.)

@yo' But some opinions are less frequent than others ;). No serious book publisher issues books in A5 for its plumpness. Try to find one in your bookshelf. 2:3 is narrower and thus much more elegant.

yo'
@AlexG yeah, with the exceptions of all the books I have that are square etc. Btw, 3:2 is just a very tiny bit away from \sqrt2, so when you start binding, you can hardly tell which was the original paper. Bookmakes do cut the final bound stocks before adding the covers to make sure everything is even, and then they can do anything they want. Us "normal people", we have to stick to some reasonable standards, and A5 is a reasonable standard.
(btw, I'm just about to print a booklet that will be 148x148mm, cut from an A5. But I'm maybe one of the not so many people in the world who has the sort of equpment to do that.)

10:42 AM
@yo' What are you using to cut the booklet?

@yo' oh, nice tool!

yo'
this one does a good job of cutting a nice amount of paper, as long as you get used to it.
when we printed our wedding invitations and cut them and everything, everyone was thinking we let a printershop do it :D

@yo' ohh :) Did you set them in tex?

yo'
@samcarter yes. (Did you expect a "no"?) I can't imagine doing some of the tricks we did in anything else...
for one: Each piece was unique: there was a background pattern that was shifted differently for each single invitation printed.

10:48 AM
@yo' a "no" would have been a bit of a disappointment :)

yo'
@samcarter :D

@yo' nice touch! very personal

yo'
@samcarter very personal OCD-ish

@yo' that's why we all love tex, isn't it?

10:50 AM
@yo' We have them here at university. But maybe you have your private one.

yo'
@samcarter yep!

@yo' beautiful!

@yo' I don't understand, but congratulations, I guess!

yo'
@mickep in 2 weeks :)

11:06 AM
@yo' How nice!

yo'
@mickep yeah, I got it some 2 years ago, and literally since that day I'm thinking waht an idiot I was not to buy it years ago. The same went for the 4-hole puncher and the boolet stapler.

11:21 AM

@yo' Great tools. onlineskyline.com/paper-handling/paper-joggers <- that one is also nice.

yo'
@mickep yeah, but that one isn't 100% needed to do home-scale jobs, unlike the other ones

@PauloCereda :P such a cool cat

@yo' now of course everyone here is highly offended not to have a square card in the post. (congrats in anycase:-)

@yo' That is true. There is something appealing with these mechanical machines.
@DavidCarlisle Oh, you didn't get one? :p

11:29 AM
@mickep Czech post office was probably confused that the whole address just said "next to the big willow tree" :P

@samcarter Oh no!

@samcarter Bame @UlrikeFischer ? : The German recipe for Toast Hawaii – melted cheese, ham and pineapple – could be considered a precursor to the Hawaiian pizza

@DavidCarlisle bame?

@UlrikeFischer add l as required

@DavidCarlisle ;-) I will put a few on stock

@UlrikeFischer along with the tins of pineapple?

@DavidCarlisle and the cheese, ham and toast.

1:18 PM
@UlrikeFischer @CarLaTeX will be calling for dinner

@DavidCarlisle oh no

@UlrikeFischer Can you take a look at this question. What the OP is doing is completely wrong, but I'm not sure my answer is complete, especially since the OP is using scrbook whose documentation breaks my head.

@AlanMunn well it should be fontsize=10.2pt in the options. But one will have to check the baselineskip.

1:34 PM
@UlrikeFischer Yes, that's the part I wasn't clear about.

@AlanMunn something like \linespread{0.9722253994294099} should give the right baselineskip, or the similar from setspace.

@UlrikeFischer you sure that should not be \linespread{0.9722253994294098} ?

1:50 PM
@DavidCarlisle \fpeval claimed that this is the right value and I trust Bruno.

@UlrikeFischer I trust tex to only use about 5 decimal places:-)

2:13 PM
Oh, many digits...

I thought TeX had very limited precision. But perhaps that was for an older version.

@DavidCarlisle ooh IEEE 754

@FaheemMitha fpeval has much greater precision than TeX (well TeX is fixed point and fpeval is floating so they are not really comparable)
@PauloCereda IEEE 754.0000000000000000000001

@DavidCarlisle I see.

@DavidCarlisle ooh

7:45 PM
@DavidCarlisle oh do you wanna come? :-) Just unfortunately @PauloCereda won't make it in the end, so I'm not sure what we'll eat.

8:10 PM
@yo' -- I might be able to provide some recipes that use U.S. quantities.

yo'
@barbarabeeton lol, I have the measuring set, so I'm prepared!

9:04 PM
make4ht is really quite amazing. With just a few small tweaks I now have online documentation for my thesis class generated directly from the .tex source that also produces the PDF.

9:14 PM
@AlanMunn -- That's good news. I'm sure it would be popular. Are the tweaks very specific, or might they help others? If the latter, it could be interesting to write up for TUGboat. Please consider.

9:27 PM
@barbarabeeton I would say they’re semi-general but I really don’t have enough grasp of how it all works to write an article. It’s mainly mapping bits of CSS to any latex markup that is not part of stuff done by major packages.

@AlanMunn -- Well, mull it over, please. If you do wake up at 3 o'clock one morning with an amazing revelation, please do reconsider.
@CarLaTeX -- I was wondering if that longish darkish shape might be an anchovy, but have decided that it's really a camouflaged basil leaf. Either way, it looks quite yummy.

9:45 PM
@PauloCereda counter-ooh
@PauloCereda and counter-ooh :)
@yo' Congratulations! Just one question: Who's the brat?

10:19 PM
@samcarter -- Just today, I learned of a new source of jigsaw puzzles: hopepuzzles.com A local competitor to Stave! I love the fish! I think I'll try to see if they permit visits to their workshop. As best I can determine, it's in the next city, which shares a border with ours, no more than a couple of miles away at most.
